“Imran Khan’s Indictment Delayed Again in Toshakhana Reference: Trial to Continue Indefinitely?”

The district and sessions court in Islamabad has deferred the indictment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana reference for the second time, citing medical grounds. The judge, Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Zafar Iqbal directed Imran to appear in court in person on February 28, 2023. The case pertains to allegations that Imran failed to provide details of gifts received from the Toshakhana, a department under the Cabinet Division that stores gifts given to rulers and government officials by foreign dignitaries, and the proceeds from their sale.

The reference was filed last year by lawmakers from the ruling coalition, and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) concluded on October 21, 2022, that Imran had made “false statements and incorrect declarations” regarding the gifts. The ECP’s order stated that Imran stood disqualified under Article 63(1)(p) of the Constitution. Subsequently, the ECP approached the Islamabad sessions court seeking criminal proceedings against Imran for allegedly misleading officials about the gifts he received during his tenure as prime minister.

At the previous hearing, Imran’s lawyers filed an exemption plea for a personal appearance in court, which led to the postponement of his indictment. In today’s hearing, Imran’s lawyer filed another exemption request, stating that an x-ray of Imran Khan will be conducted on February 28, 2023. The court, however, pointed out that if Imran’s absence continued, the trial would never end. The ECP’s lawyer objected to the exemption request, stating that a medical certificate was not attached to the plea, and requested the formation of a medical board for Imran. The court then asked Imran’s lawyer to produce a medico-legal certificate of his client to learn about the extent of his injuries.

During the hearing, copies of the case records were distributed. ADSJ Iqbal said that according to the law, copies of the case are given to the accused in court, in their presence, and that Imran was summoned for the same reason. The judge also asked how the court could determine Imran’s health without a medico-legal certificate and suggested that a medical examination of Imran be conducted at PIMS hospital. The hearing was subsequently adjourned till February 28, 2023, with instructions for Imran’s lawyer to ensure the PTI chief’s presence at the next proceedings.

Imran has engaged a team of senior lawyers to contest the ECP’s complaint in the case, comprising Khawaja Haris Ahmed, Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, and Advocate Ali Bukhari. However, the delay in Imran’s indictment has raised concerns about the length of the trial and the possibility of it dragging on indefinitely.

Imran Khan is currently recuperating after sustaining a gunshot wound during an assassination attempt at a rally on November 3, 2022. The Toshakhana case is one of several legal challenges facing the PTI chairman, including a defamation case filed by former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Syed Khursheed Shah and a contempt of court case filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan. Imran has denied all the allegations against him and stated that they are politically motivated.

Lahore Qalandars crush Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2023 encounter

0

Lahore Qalandars cruised to a comfortable 63-run victory against Quetta Gladiators in the 10th match of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi.

The match started with Lahore Qalandars winning the toss and electing to bat first. The Qalandars got off to a steady start, with their opening pair of Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique putting on a solid 46-run partnership before Shafique was dismissed for 17.

However, the real hero for the Qalandars was their skipper Sohail Akhtar, who came in at number three and played a blistering knock of 93 runs off just 59 balls. Akhtar’s innings included nine fours and four sixes and was the cornerstone of the Qalandars’ innings.

Despite a few late wickets, Lahore Qalandars managed to post a competitive total of 193 runs for the loss of six wickets. Mohammad Nawaz was the pick of the bowlers for Quetta Gladiators, finishing with figures of 2/23 in his four overs.

In response, Quetta Gladiators got off to a disastrous start, losing opener Jason Roy for a duck in the very first over. Mohammad Hafeez and Umar Akmal tried to steady the ship, but both were dismissed within the first seven overs, leaving the Gladiators reeling at 44/3.

From there on, it was all downhill for Quetta Gladiators, as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Iftikhar Ahmed was the only batsman who provided some resistance, scoring 42 runs off 31 balls. However, his innings came to an end in the 17th over, and the Gladiators were bowled out for just 130 runs in 18.2 overs.

Lahore Qalandars’ bowling was impressive, with all their bowlers chipping in with wickets. Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/28 in his four overs, while Rashid Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and David Wiese all picked up two wickets each.

Overall, it was a comprehensive victory for Lahore Qalandars, who put up a clinical performance with both bat and ball. The win takes them to second place in the points table, behind Islamabad United.

As for Quetta Gladiators, they have a lot of work to do if they are to turn their fortunes around in the tournament. They are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table with just one win from five matches.

In conclusion, Lahore Qalandars’ dominant performance against Quetta Gladiators was a testament to their all-around skills and team spirit. The victory will give them a much-needed boost as they look to build momentum in the tournament.

“Unpacking the Complexities of Pakistan’s LNG Reference Case: Transparency and Accountability in the Spotlight”

Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was issued an arrest warrant earlier on Tuesday by an accountability court in Islamabad for his failure to appear in the case hearing for the LNG (liquefied natural gas) reference. However, the court later canceled the warrant after Abbasi’s lawyer filed an exemption application. On the other hand, the court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for co-accused Uzma Adil, the former chairperson of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

In 2019, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Abbasi for alleged corruption in awarding a multi-billion rupee import contract for LNG in 2013 when he was the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources. Abbasi was granted bail in 2021 by an accountability court that ruled there was never any conflict over non-transparency in the LNG terminal case. The court stated that the NAB’s case was not based on whether or not Abbasi took financial benefit and that there was no conflict over whether or not there was transparency in the LNG terminal case. The authorized forum had given approval for the LNG terminal. However, the court said that whether the LNG terminal was developed in the interest of people or not needed further investigation. The court also stated that the NAB had failed to prove why Abbasi should be kept in jail.

The LNG reference case involves Abbasi, his son Abdullah Khaqan Abbasi, former finance minister Miftah Ismail, ex-chairman of SSGC Board, former CEO of EETPL and MD of PSO, ex-chairman of Port Qasim Authority (PQA) Agha Jan Akhtar, former chairman of OGRA Saeed Ahmed Khan, ex-member of OGRA Aamir Naseem, Uzma Adil, ex-MD of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Shahid M Islam, chairman of Engro Corporation Limited Husain Dawood, director of Engro Corporation Limited Abdul Samad Dawood, and others. The accused were alleged to have awarded the LNG Terminal-1 contract through a non-transparent process.

The public office holders were accused of misusing their authorities in active connivance with each other to give wrongful gains of Rs14.146 billion to EETL/ETPL/ECL in connection with LNG Terminal-1 of EETL and also caused a wrongful loss of Rs7.438 billion, approximately, for non-utilization of unused capacity of second LNG Terminal of PGPL from March 2015 to September 2019. The total liability amounted to Rs21.584 billion, approximately, till September 2019, and the losses to be incurred for the next ten years would amount to Rs47 billion, approximately, as the said contract would expire on March 2029.

Unexplained deposits of Rs1.426 billion were received in the accounts of Abdullah Abbasi and Rs1.294 billion were deposited in the bank accounts of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi between 2013 and 2017, during which the above-said LNG terminal deal was struck. According to the reference, by concealing the origin of the aforementioned deposits and layering, the accused also committed the offense of money laundering.

The case has been ongoing for several years, and it is not the first time that an arrest warrant has been issued against Abbasi. However, this latest development has raised questions about the efficacy of the accountability process in Pakistan. Some believe that the accountability process is being used to target political opponents, rather than to bring corrupt officials to justice.

In recent years, the accountability process in Pakistan has been marred by controversy, with allegations of bias and political interference.

Based on the information provided, it is clear that the LNG reference case is a complex legal matter that involves multiple high-profile individuals and substantial amounts of money. The case highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the awarding of contracts and the management of public resources.

While the cancellation of the arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Abbasi may come as a relief to his supporters, it is important to note that the case is still ongoing and the accused parties will need to answer for the allegations leveled against them. It remains to be seen how the case will develop in the coming days and whether justice will be served.

The LNG reference case serves as a reminder of the need for transparency and accountability in government affairs. It is the responsibility of all public officials to ensure that they act in the best interests of the people they serve and to uphold the rule of law at all times. As the case continues to unfold, it will be important to closely monitor developments and to hold all parties accountable for their actions.

PTI announces ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a major political party in Pakistan, has announced a court arrest movement called ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ after a series of sedition cases were filed against its leaders, including Fawad Chaudhry, Azam Swati, and Shahbaz Gill. The party’s Chairman, Imran Khan, announced the movement earlier this month after apparently running out of options to press the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government to stop what the party claims are political victimization. PTI Senior Vice-President Fawad Chaudhry announced that party leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar, had offered to surrender themselves along with 200 party workers on Wednesday to kickstart the movement. However, the party leadership has decided to move forward with a unanimous approach.

In the wake of the sedition cases, PTI Chairman Imran Khan announced the ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ movement. Speaking about this, Fawad Chaudhry welcomed a statement reportedly issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that the body was “ready to hold elections in 90 days”. He called it a right step in the right direction. In the same breath, the PTI leader said that President Arif Alvi had set April 9 as the date for the general election in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He added that the date could not be changed as per the Election Act and the Constitution. However, this move was rejected by the ruling alliance.

Moving towards the upcoming elections in the country, the PTI leader said that the party would start allocating tickets to the candidates from next week. The PTI’s election campaign will reach its peak when Khan will join it within one-and-a-half weeks. The PTI would launch a countrywide public awareness campaign, he added.

Referring to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) notices to the PTI leadership in the Toshakhana scam, Fawad said that the anti-graft watchdog’s chairman had exposed the government by tendering his resignation. Earlier today, Aftab Sultan tendered his resignation as NAB chairman after reportedly refusing to “toe the line”. Speaking to Geo News, Sultan said that he had resigned from the office a few days ago. “I was asked to do certain things which were not acceptable to me.”

Chaudhry said that Khan has directed the party to kickstart preparations for the upcoming elections. He urged the PTI’s candidates to launch election campaigns in their respective constituencies. Referring to Khan’s appearance before the Lahore High Court (LHC) a day earlier, Fawad said that the way the workers welcomed the PTI chairman had triggered uneasiness among the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government.

Meanwhile, Hammad Azhar, former economic minister, lambasted the government over the Finance (Supplementary) Bill 2023. A day earlier, the National Assembly unanimously approved the government’s much-needed ‘mini-budget’, which is mandatory for seeking a $1.1 billion tranche of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan. Reacting to the move, Azhar said that the bill was bulldozed through the NA against the law and the Constitution. Slamming Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, the PTI leader said that he brought the country to the verge of economic collapse. He termed the IMF deal “a tactic to avoid default”. Azhar criticized the ruling alliance over rising inflation in the country.

“Immediate elections are the sole solution to instability,” the PTI leader claimed and urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce a date for the polls.

The PTI’s upcoming “Jail Bharo Tehreek” and preparations for the upcoming elections demonstrate the party’s determination to challenge the current government’s policies and practices. With the resignations of key officials, such as the NAB chairman, and the rising inflation and economic instability in the country, the PTI sees immediate elections as the solution to the current instability. The party has urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to announce a date for the polls and plans to allocate tickets to candidates starting next week. As the party’s campaign reaches its peak and Imran Khan joins it in the coming weeks, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to the PTI’s challenge.

Parvez Elahi joins PTI

Former Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Parvez Elahi has joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after being terminated from his party membership and removed from his provincial-president post by Chaudhry Shujaat. Elahi, who met with PTI Chairman Imran Khan before the announcement, has been a loyal supporter of Khan and vowed to stand by him through thick and thin. Fawad Chaudhry, PTI Senior Vice President, announced during a press conference in Lahore that the party welcomed Elahi and his aides as they embarked on the path toward a “new Pakistan”. Elahi has been appointed as the PTI’s new president following his insistence, and senior leadership has approved the decision.

Shujaat issued a show-cause notice to Elahi on January 16, suspending his membership after he discussed the possibility of merging his party with the PTI. The statement stated that Elahi did not have the authority to merge the party with PTI. The former Punjab chief minister dissolved the assembly last month at the desire of the PTI chief. Shujaat later issued a statement, banning Elahi from using PML-Q’s name in the future and withdrawing positions of people appointed in the party by the former chief minister.

The political temperature in the country is rising as general elections approach in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Elahi’s move to join PTI could have significant implications for the upcoming elections. However, it remains to be seen how this will play out and what impact it will have on Pakistan’s political landscape.

In conclusion, the recent developments in Pakistan’s political arena have brought significant changes, with Parvez Elahi joining PTI and being appointed as the party’s new president. The implications of this move for the upcoming general elections remain to be seen. The situation in Pakistan’s political arena is complex and dynamic, and it will require close attention to understand how it will evolve in the coming months.

The Significance of Shab-e-Bara

The Islamic month of Shaban has arrived, and Muslims across the world are preparing for the holy night of Shab-e-Barat, which falls between the 14th and 15th of this month. In Pakistan, the crescent moon for Shaban has been sighted, and the first day of the month will be observed tomorrow.

Shab-e-Barat is a night of great significance for Muslims, who observe it with religious fervor and devotion. It is believed that on this night, Allah Almighty decides the fate of every individual for the coming year, including their life, death, and blessings. It is also considered a night of forgiveness and a chance to seek mercy from Allah for one’s sins.

Throughout the country, special religious gatherings will be held, and people will visit graveyards to offer prayers for their loved ones who have passed away. The night will be spent in offering nawafil, or special prayers, in mosques, and reciting the Holy Quran.

In some traditions, people prepare sweet dishes and distribute them to their friends and neighbors as a gesture of goodwill and to seek blessings. They also light candles and decorate their homes with lights and banners to mark the occasion.

However, it is important to note that while Shab-e-Barat is a significant night in Islamic tradition, it is not a mandatory religious observance. Muslims are encouraged to spend the night in prayer and reflection but are not obligated to do so.

As we observe Shab-e-Barat, let us reflect on the blessings and challenges of the past year and seek forgiveness for our shortcomings. Let us pray for the well-being and prosperity of our families, communities, and countries, and strive to be better Muslims and human beings in the coming year.

Multan Sultans Beat Islamabad

0

The Multan Sultans continued their winning streak in the HBL Pakistan Super League, beating Islamabad United by 52 runs in a thrilling encounter at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The match was poised for a tense finish until Usama Mir turned the game on its head with a superb over that saw him take two wickets and swing the momentum in the Sultans’ favour.

The Multan Sultans, playing at their home ground, got off to a good start after being put in to bat by the United captain Shadab Khan. However, they lost two quick wickets, including that of the in-form Rilee Rossouw, before David Miller and Kieron Pollard came to the crease. Miller was in an aggressive mood and launched a fierce attack on the United bowlers, hitting three consecutive sixes off Shadab Khan in the 15th over. Pollard joined the party, smashing Rumman Raees for a six and a four in the 17th over before Miller finally fell for a quickfire 52 off 25 balls. Pollard finished off the innings with a flurry of boundaries and took the Sultans to a daunting total of 190-4.

In reply, United lost their opening batsman Paul Stirling early, but Hasan Nawaz showed great promise with an enterprising knock of 21 off 12 balls. Rassie van der Dussen and Colin Munro then built a solid partnership, taking the score to 90-2 in the 11th over. But then Usama Mir struck, dismissing Munro and Shadab Khan in quick succession to leave United reeling at 90-4. The Sultans then tightened the screws, with Abbas Afridi and Ihsanullah taking wickets at regular intervals. Azam Khan played a brief cameo, hitting two sixes, but he fell to Abbas Afridi for 15, leaving United at 120-6. The rest of the United batting line-up crumbled under pressure, and they were eventually bowled out for 138 in the 18th over.

The victory was the Sultans’ third in a row, following their opening-match defeat to the Lahore Qalandars. The United team, on the other hand, suffered their first loss of the tournament after a comprehensive win over the Karachi Kings in their previous game.

The Multan Sultans will be buoyed by their performance and will look to continue their winning run when they take on the Quetta Gladiators in their next match. United, on the other hand, will have to regroup quickly and find a way to bounce back when they face the Peshawar Zalmi in their next game.

Overall, the match was a thrilling contest between two strong teams, with some excellent performances from both sides. David Miller’s explosive knock was undoubtedly the highlight of the game, but Usama Mir’s match-turning over was equally impressive. The Multan Sultans will be hoping to carry this form into the rest of the tournament, while United will be looking to put this defeat behind them and come back stronger in their next game.

Lahore Court suspends de-notification

On Monday, the Lahore High Court suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) de- notification of all PTI MNAs from Punjab. This decision was made after the PTI resigned en masse from the lower house of parliament in April last year following the ouster of PTI chief Imran Khan. NA speaker Ashraf only accepted 11 of the resignations, stating that the remaining lawmakers would be summoned individually for verification.

After delaying the process for eight months, Ashraf finally accepted the resignations of 34 more PTI MNAs and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid on Jan 17. Three days later, on Jan 20, the speaker accepted 35 more resignations. A total of 70 PTI lawmakers, including Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Andleeb Abbas, Pervaiz Khattak, and others, filed a plea with LHC, seeking court directions to nullify the decision of NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf of the acceptance of their resignations as well as the subsequent de-denotification order issued the ECP.

The petitioners urged the court to suspend the notifications from NA Secretariat and the ECP till the final disposal of the plea. However, in its order today, the high court only suspended the ECP order for the MNAs belonging to Punjab. The status of those from other provinces remained unclear, while the court’s written orders are awaited. Meanwhile, the court issued notices to the ECP as well as the NA speaker. The hearing was adjourned till March 7.

Last week, Justice Shahid Karim overruled an objection of the registrar office on a petition of the PTI MNAs challenging the acceptance of their resignations. The office had initially objected to the maintainability of the petition for non-provision of necessary documents. The judge, however, overruled the objection and directed the office to fix the petition before an appropriate bench.

The LHC had on February 8 also suspended the NA speaker’s acceptance of the resignations of 43 PTI lawmakers and put by-elections in 43 constituencies on hold. The court order was pronounced by Justice Shahid Karim on a petition filed by PTI’s Riaz Fatyana and 42 other MNAs against the NA speaker’s acceptance of their resignations and the ECP’s de-notification orders.

The ongoing legal battle over the PTI resignations has led to a political deadlock, with the opposition accusing the government of using underhand tactics to manipulate the electoral process. The PTI has maintained that the resignations were a genuine attempt to protest against the alleged rigging in the 2018 general elections.

The suspension of the ECP’s de-notification order is a significant development in the case, as it means that the PTI MNAs from Punjab will retain their seats in the National Assembly. However, the status of those from other provinces remains unclear, and it is uncertain how the court will rule on the larger issue of the acceptance of the PTI resignations.

The case has also highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistan’s democratic institutions, including allegations of political interference in the electoral process and the lack of consensus among political parties. The coming weeks will be critical in determining the future of the PTI lawmakers and the wider political landscape in Pakistan.

General elections in Pakistan, announced

President Dr Arif Alvi has announced the date of General elections for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces of Pakistan, which is set to be held on April 9. The decision was made under the Election Act 2027 Section 57(1).

However, the ruling allies have rejected the decision outrightly. According to the president, he has asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to issue an election programme in accordance with Section 57(2) of the Act.

The president has initiated a serious consultation process with the ECP under Section 57(1) of the Elections Act, 2017 to announce the date for the general elections of the assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The ECP has refused to participate in a meeting with the Office of the president on this matter. The political parties such as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have questioned the president’s move, stating that he was not empowered to set the date of the election.

Imran Khan case hearing

The Lahore High Court has ordered Pakistan’s opposition leader, Imran Khan, to appear before it regarding a case relating to protests outside the Election Commission of Pakistan.

During the hearing, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh noted that Imran’s signatures on the affidavit attached with the petition were different from those on the power of attorney, warning of the possibility of issuing a contempt notice. Imran has been recovering from an assassination attempt that occurred when he was marching on Islamabad.

Yesterday, an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad rejected Imran’s request for an
extension in his interim bail in a case relating to violent protests outside the ECP. Imran had
requested interim protective bail in Lahore.

Naseem Shah fined for wrong helmet

0

PSL S8: During the third match of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Quetta Gladiators’ Naseem Shah wore the wrong helmet, which resulted in a fine by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The incident took place on February 15, 2023, in a game that saw the Gladiators lose by nine wickets to the home side.

Naseem, who is a right-arm pacer, was fined 10% of his match fee for wearing the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Comilla Victorians’ helmet. This is in violation of the PCB’ Code of Conduct, which requires players to wear helmets that comply with the board’ safety standards.

It is important to note that Naseem had represented the Comilla Victorians in the BPL 2023 before the PSL 8, and this may have led to the confusion.

The incident has once again brought into focus the importance of safety in cricket. Helmets are an essential safety gear for players, especially bowlers, who are in the line of fire. The PCB has strict rules regarding the safety equipment worn by players, and it is the responsibility of the players to ensure that they comply with these rules.

Despite the incident, the focus of the match was on the brilliant performance by the home team’s bowler, Ihsanullah, who took five wickets to help the Sultans bowl out the Gladiators for just 110 runs. Ihsanullah was in top form, with his speedy deliveries and back-to-back wickets.

Rilee Rossouw was the star with the bat for the Sultans, as he scored an impressive 78 not-out off just 42 balls. He brought up his eighth PSL 50 off 33 balls, helping the Sultans chase down the target in just 13.3 overs. Rossouw's knock included nine boundaries and three maximums, and it was his brilliant performance that sealed the victory for the home team.

The PSL is one of the most popular T20 cricket leagues in the world, attracting some of the best players from across the globe. The league has helped to raise the profile of Pakistani cricket and has provided a platform for young players to showcase their skills.

However, incidents like the one involving Naseem Shah serve as a reminder that safety should always be the top priority in cricket. The PCB's Code of Conduct is in place to ensure that players adhere to safety regulations, and it is essential that players take these rules seriously.

the incident involving Naseem Shah wearing the wrong helmet during the PSL match highlights the importance of safety in cricket. While the incident resulted in a fine for the player, it also serves as a reminder to all players to take safety regulations seriously. The PSL continues to be a hugely popular T20 league, providing a platform for young players to showcase their skills and helping to raise the profile of Pakistani cricket.

Turkey Earthquake Relief from Pakistan

0

Turkey Earthquake Relief: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in Pakistan has sent another relief consignment to Turkey in response to the earthquake that recently struck the country. The consignment contained 4.7 tons of goods, including 1,446 blankets and tents, and was sent on a Pakistan International Airlines flight.

The day before, a Pakistan Air Force plane carrying 16.5 tons of relief goods arrived in Adana, Turkey. In addition to the relief goods, the Pakistan Air Force is also working to evacuate stranded Pakistani citizens in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Pakistani Embassy in Turkey.

Earlier in the week, two rescue teams were sent to Turkey on the orders of the Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir.

In addition, a 30-bed mobile hospital, tents, blankets, and other relief items were also sent. A 52-member specialized search and rescue team was also dispatched with the approval of the Punjab government and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.

The team is certified by the United Nations and is expected to provide immediate support. The earthquakes in Turkey have resulted in at least 24,617 deaths and 80,278 injuries, according to reports. Over 218,406 search and rescue personnel are working in the affected areas, and earthquake Crimes Investigation Departments have been established in 10 provinces.

Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Minister of Turkey, Murat Kurum, reported that inspections have been conducted at 171,882 buildings in the affected provinces, with 120,940 structures found to have collapsed or be in need of demolition.

The earthquakes in Turkey have had a devastating impact on the country and its people. Despite the challenges, the relief and rescue efforts continue, with multiple countries and organizations working together to provide aid and support.

The consignments sent by the NDMA and the Pakistan Air Force, local organizations and individuals are also working to raise funds for the earthquake victims.

The Turkish Vice President, Fuat Oktay, has thanked the international community for their support and efforts in helping the affected communities. The government and various organizations are working tirelessly to provide assistance and support to those in need, including food, shelter, medical care, and other essentials.

The earthquakes have highlighted the importance of preparedness and response in times of disasters, and the critical role that disaster management organizations play in supporting communities in need. The outpouring of support and assistance from around the world shows the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in times of crisis.

The people of Turkey can take comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their time of need and that the world is working together to support them. The recovery process will be long and difficult, but with the help of the international community, the people of Turkey will be able to rebuild their homes and their lives.

NATO Secretary General Succession Race

0

The departure of NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg later this year has relaunched the race for his successor. Stoltenberg, the former Prime Minister of Norway, has served as the Western alliance’s top civilian official for nearly nine years and has overseen NATO through several international crises.

The choice of his successor will be symbolic of NATO’s direction and it is being speculated whether the alliance will appoint a woman or someone from Eastern Europe.

NATO has been headed by a series of Western European men for seven decades and the appointment of a woman or an Easterner as the Secretary General is being considered as a possibility.

With NATO’s strategic focus shifting towards the Eastern flank, the alliance is facing calls to appoint someone like Lithuania’s Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte or Estonia’s Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.

Both have taken a tough diplomatic stance against Russia, which may be seen as a positive by some allies but may also count against them in some capitals.

The Netherlands is reportedly considering to propose its Defense Minister, Kajsa Ollongren, for the position.

Britain, which has already provided three Secretary Generals for the alliance in the past, is also being speculated as a potential candidate.

Its Defense Secretary Ben Wallace is often cited as a possible choice, but this may not be well received by the 21 NATO allies who are also members of the European Union.

On the other hand, NATO’s southern flank has figures like Italy’s former Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis as potential candidates.

A non-European Secretary General could also be appointed for the first time, with Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland being a wild card option.

However, there is currently no consensus among the NATO allies, with some suggesting that US President Joe Biden’s White House has not yet given the succession much thought.

Jens Stoltenberg took office at NATO’s headquarters in Brussels on October 1, 2014 and has been a respected Secretary General.

He was a bridge between the European allies and Washington under former US President Donald Trump, who was a frequent critic of NATO. Stoltenberg has overseen NATO’s response to several international crises, including the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022 and the ongoing war, the most brutal on European soil since the 1940s.

In conclusion, the departure of Jens Stoltenberg has relaunched the race for his successor as the Secretary General of NATO. The choice of his successor will be symbolic of NATO’s direction and it is being speculated whether the alliance will appoint a woman, someone from Eastern Europe, or someone from a different region altogether.

The potential candidates are from various regions and backgrounds, but there is currently no consensus among the NATO allies.

Pakistan-US Defense Dialogue

The Pakistan-US mid-level defense dialogue is set to take place in Washington, starting on February 13th. This will be the second round of the dialogue aimed at strengthening ties between the two strategic allies.

The Chief of General Staff from Pakistan will lead the delegation, which will include senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Joint Staff Headquarters, and three Services Headquarters.

On the American side, the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense will be represented. During the four-day dialogue, both sides will discuss issues related to bilateral defense and security cooperation.

The first round of this dialogue was held in Pakistan in 2021, with both countries seeking to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as counterterrorism and border security.

The mid-level defense dialogue is seen as a significant step forward in the relationship between Pakistan and the United States.

Both countries are keen to enhance their cooperation on defense and security matters, and the dialogue is expected to be a platform for discussing and finding ways to achieve these goals.

The discussions will also address current challenges facing the two nations and how they can work together to overcome them.

Additionally, the dialogue will provide an opportunity for both sides to share their perspectives on regional and global security issues and to explore ways to address common security threats.

The outcome of the dialogue is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and the United States and in promoting regional stability.

ECP Announces Election Date in Punjab

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has recently given a much-awaited verdict to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), directing it to announce the date for the general elections in the province of Punjab immediately.

The verdict was announced by Justice Jawad Hassan, who emphasized that the ECP was bound by the Constitution to hold the general elections within 90 days of the dissolution of the assembly. The decision was made after the PTI approached the LHC seeking a court order for the Punjab Governor to announce the election date.

The PTI, in its petition filed on January 27, argued that the assembly was dissolved on January 12 and that the elections should be held between April 9 and 17. The LHC has now directed the ECP to announce the election schedule, taking into account the reasons for the decision and after consultation with the governor of Punjab, who is the constitutional head of the province.

This verdict is a significant development in the ongoing political scenario in Pakistan, as it sets the tone for the upcoming elections in the country. The LHC’s decision to direct the ECP to announce the election date immediately has been welcomed by the PTI, which had been demanding the elections for a long time. The general elections in Punjab are expected to be held in the coming months, and the announcement of the election date is expected to trigger a flurry of political activities, including campaigns, rallies, and debates.

The general elections in Punjab are expected to be closely watched by the political parties and the general public, as the outcome of these elections will have a significant impact on the political landscape of the country. The election is expected to be a crucial test for the ruling PTI, which has been facing criticism for its handling of various political and economic issues. The opposition parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), are expected to challenge the PTI in these elections.

The general elections in Punjab are expected to be a competitive and closely contested affair, with the political parties expected to put up a strong fight to win the support of the electorate. The election is also expected to be a test of the political maturity of the people of Punjab, who are known for their strong political beliefs and affiliations. In conclusion, the verdict by the LHC to direct the ECP to announce the date for the general

elections in Punjab is a major development in the political scenario of the country. The decision has set the tone for the upcoming elections, which are expected to be a crucial and competitive affair. Maryam Nawaz vs Imran Khan

The Senior Vice-President and Chief Organizer of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, Maryam Nawaz, recently criticized the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Imran Khan.

During a party workers’ convention in Abbottabad, Maryam suggested that the PTI’s “Jail Bharo” (court arrest) movement should start with the arrest of Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s former wife, who Maryam claimed was involved in taking bribes during the previous government. She also accused Imran Khan of signing official files after taking bribes and filling his own pockets while neglecting the development of the people.

Maryam further stated that Imran Khan had made the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa “fools” in the name of dams and that the province needed PML-N’s Nawaz Sharif, not funds, as it has plenty of resources. She accused Imran Khan of not launching any new development projects in the province and held him responsible for the recent Peshawar blast that claimed over 200 lives.

In response to PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s admission that Nawaz Sharif had been removed unconstitutionally, Maryam claimed that the PTI is aware that they did injustice to the PML-N. She also questioned how a “mentally ill person” was imposed on the nation and stated that only Nawaz Sharif could steer the country out of its difficulties. The PML-N, established in 1988, is a center-right political party in Pakistan.

The party’s primary focus is on social and economic development, national unity, and a strong foreign policy. Maryam Nawaz is the daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and is considered a key figure in the PML-N party. She has been actively involved in politics and has been a vocal critic of the PTI government.

Maryam Nawaz’s remarks were a strong attack on the PTI and its Chairman, Imran Khan. She accused Khan of neglecting the development of the people and criticized his policies. The PML-N leader emphasized that only Nawaz Sharif could put the country on the path of progress and claimed that the PML-N would clean sweep the next elections in the province. These remarks are likely to escalate the ongoing political tensions between the PML-N and PTI parties.

Chef CZN Burak Earthquake relief

0

A devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake recently struck Turkey and Syria, causing widespread destruction and leading to the loss of thousands of lives. Buildings have crumbled, trapping many people underneath the rubble, and the death toll continues to rise.

In response, emergency declarations have been made and rescue teams and supplies are being sent from around the world to help those affected.

Celebrity chef, Burak Özdemir, also known as CZN Burak, is among those deeply affected by the disaster. The popular Turkish restauranteur, who rose to fame for his cooking videos, was seen in tears as he spoke about the destruction caused by the earthquake. He pleaded for assistance and announced that he would do his part to help the provinces affected by the earthquake.

Fans of the young chef were heartbroken to see him upset and have been praying for all those affected by the tragedy. With a massive following of 44 million on Instagram, Burak has a platform to raise awareness and help those in need. He is also known for his efforts in providing substantial food supplies to Syrian refugees.

The disaster has left many families homeless and in desperate need of food, water, and medical attention. Burak has been working tirelessly to bring attention to their plight and to gather resources to help them. He has also been reaching out to other influencers and organizations to join forces and make a larger impact.

In times of tragedy, it is inspiring to see individuals like Burak come forward and use their platform and resources to make a difference. His unwavering commitment to helping those in need serves as a reminder of the power of compassion and the importance of coming together in times of crisis.

As the rescue and recovery efforts continue, we can only hope that the affected areas will receive the support they need to rebuild and heal. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the earthquake, and we stand in solidarity with the Turkish and Syrian communities during this difficult time.

Security Issues in KPK Polls

The upcoming elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the National Assembly by-polls in Pakistan pose a significant challenge to the country. One of the main concerns is the threat of terrorism, which cannot be ruled out, according to the Inspector General Police (IGP), Moazzam Jah Ansari.

The police force has been targeted repeatedly, with 494 attacks in 2022 and 46 attacks just in the first five weeks of 2023, resulting in the death of over 200 police officers. Due to the shortage of police personnel, the army and Frontier Corps may be needed to maintain security during the elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is in touch with the Ministries of Defence and Interior to discuss the deployment of the army and Frontier Corps. The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Sikandar Sultan Raja, has emphasized the importance of conducting transparent elections and called for impartial officers to be appointed during the electoral process. The Chief Secretary of KPK has assured the CEC that impartial officers will be appointed in all districts.

Aside from the threat of terrorism, there have been allegations of manipulation of results, as seen in the case filed by the Jamaat-e-Islami regarding the recent local government elections in Karachi and the allegations of rigging made by PTI Sindh President Ali Zaidi. It is crucial for the ECP to address these allegations and ensure that the elections are transparent and free from any form of manipulation.

The country is also facing a severe financial crisis, which makes holding separate elections for the provincial and National Assemblies difficult. The Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique, has stressed the importance of holding general elections across the country despite the financial situation and has called for unity and seriousness in participating in the elections.

it is essential for all stakeholders to work together to ensure the security and transparency of the upcoming elections, which are vital for the future of Pakistan. The ECP has recognized the challenges facing the elections and is taking necessary measures, including deploying the army and Frontier Corps and appointing impartial officers. However, the threat of terrorism, allegations of manipulation, and the financial crisis make this a difficult task.

Catastrophic Earthquake aftermath search

0

The earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria has caused widespread devastation, with thousands of buildings destroyed and over 12,000 people confirmed dead. The search for survivors continues, with tens of thousands of aid personnel and search teams from more than two dozen countries working in the disaster zone.

However, the survival window for those trapped under rubble is closing quickly, and the harsh conditions are making rescue efforts more difficult. The Turkish government is facing calls to send more help, and the Turkish President has visited the disaster zone to see the situation first-hand.

In Syria, the ongoing civil war and Western sanctions have hampered aid efforts, but the Syrian Prime Minister has said that the priority now is to rescue people who are still trapped under rubble. Despite the odds, rescuers are continuing their efforts, but experts warn that the likelihood of survival is now slim.

As the rescue effort continues in Turkey and Syria, the international community is working together to provide aid and support. The United Nations has pledged its support to the countries, and is working with local organizations and governments to get necessary supplies to the affected areas. The European Union has also offered its support, and has sent teams of rescue workers and medical personnel to assist with the efforts.

In addition to the efforts of the international community, the Turkish government has stepped up its efforts to help those affected by the earthquakes. The government has deployed tens of thousands of aid workers to the disaster zone, and has set up makeshift shelters and medical facilities to care for those who have been displaced from their homes. The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has also visited the affected areas and has pledged that no one will be left without help.

However, the situation in Syria remains more challenging due to the ongoing civil war and the lack of access to certain parts of the country. The rebel-held region along the border with Turkey has been surrounded by Russia-backed government forces, making it difficult for aid workers to reach those in need. The Syrian Prime Minister, Hussein Arnous, has visited some of the affected areas and has stated that the priority is to rescue those who are still trapped under the rubble. Despite the challenges, Egypt has sent a medical and rescue team to the country, and the UN is exploring all avenues to get supplies to the affected areas.

As the rescue efforts continue, it is important to remember the human toll of this disaster. The earthquake has claimed the lives of over 12,000 people, and thousands more are still missing. Many families have been torn apart, and countless others have been left without a home or a sense of security. The psychological impact of this disaster will be felt for years to come, and it is important that support and resources are made available to those affected.

In addition to the human toll, the economic impact of the earthquakes will also be significant. Thousands of buildings have been destroyed, and it will take time and resources to rebuild and recover from the disaster. The Turkish and Syrian governments, along with the international community, must work together to provide the necessary support and resources to help the affected communities recover and rebuild.

The earthquakes in Turkey and Syria are a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of being prepared for natural disasters. It is important that communities and governments take the necessary steps to prepare for these events and to have response plans in place to help those affected. This includes investing in infrastructure, improving disaster warning systems, and educating the public on what to do in the event of an earthquake.

the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria have had a devastating impact on the lives of many people. The international community must continue to work together to provide support and resources to those affected, and to help the affected communities recover and rebuild. The human toll of this disaster is a reminder of the importance of being prepared for natural disasters, and the need for continued efforts to improve disaster response and recovery efforts.

Devastating Earthquakes Strike Turkey and Syria

0

The recent earthquakes that struck the Turkish province of Elazig and the Syrian province of Idlib have left a devastating impact on the region, with the death toll rising to over 17,000 and thousands left homeless and in need of basic necessities.

The situation has been exacerbated by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the area due to the civil war in Syria. The United Nations special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, has called for an immediate response to the disaster and emphasized that emergency aid should not be politicized.

The Turkish and Syrian governments, along with international aid organizations, are working tirelessly to provide relief and support to those affected. However, the scale of the destruction and the challenging conditions in the region make the response efforts a significant challenge. The rebuilding process will require significant resources and effort, with countless homes, schools, and hospitals destroyed or damaged.

The outpouring of support from people around the world shows that the world is united in its efforts to help those affected by the disaster. It is crucial that the international community continues to provide aid and support in the long-term rebuilding process to help the affected communities recover and rebuild their lives.

The earthquakes in Turkey and Syria have left a devastating impact and require the
cooperation and support of the international community. The Guardian, with its commitment to
independent and impartial journalism, will continue to play a crucial role in reporting on the
crisis and advocating for the rights of those affected.

A Violent Individual opened fire at a Police Team in Karachi

0

KARACHI: A violent individual opened fire at a police team in the vicinity of Mewa Shah graveyard, according to ARY News on Wednesday.

The SSP Keamari released a statement indicating that the armed suspect was confronted by the police. His name was Ibrahim. He then fired shots at the officers instead of surrendering.

After a shootout, the suspect was apprehended and sustained injuries. The police also recovered a handgun from his possession.

Earlier, the Karachi police arrested two individuals who were accused of extortion and posing as National Accountability Bureau (NAB) representatives to intimidate the public.

The arrest was made by Clifton police after a citizen filed a complaint of receiving threatening calls from people claiming to be from the NAB.

The complainant asked the extortionists to meet at a designated location to collect the demanded money. Upon their arrival, the police apprehended the suspects, identified as Jameel and Bilal.

According to the police, Jameel and Bilal were sent by other members of their gang, Saqib and Javed, to collect the money.

The Clifton police are conducting raids to capture the remaining members of the gang, including Saqib and Javed. A case has been registered and an in-depth investigation has been launched.

Assessing Bitcoin’s Recovery in the Cryptocurrency Realm

Have bitcoin and ether finally turned a corner? It’s looking that way, if crypto options traders are anything to go by.

The volume of bitcoin options traded on Deribit, one of the leading exchanges for crypto-focused derivatives products, jumped 82 per cent in January versus December, according to crypto market maker OrBit Markets. Ether options swelled 38pc.

More investors are positioning for price gains, with the volume skewed to bullish call options — paying a premium for an option to buy bitcoin or ether at a future date and agreed price — rather than the conversely bearish put options to sell.

Calls commanded 71.1pc of total bitcoin futures open interest, and 77.5pc for ether, according to Deribit data.

“You’ve actually seen a couple people trading in $50,000 calls, for example, that’s been the general appetite that we’ve seen — just increased appetite for upside,” said Chinedu Ume-Ezeoke, quantitative research analyst at data firm Laevitas.

Yet the surge in volumes also indicates investors are in two minds about the direction of crypto markets, preferring low-risk, low-reward options to actually buying bitcoin or ether.

The surge in the options markets, after months of tame trading and depressed volatility, coincides with a 40pc leap in the price of bitcoin in January — its best month since October 2021 — and a 32pc jump for ether.

“Bitcoin’s rally was explosive, almost like imagining the release of a beach ball that had been forced under water,” said Joe Ziolkowski, the CEO of Relm, a digital asset insurer.

Fears of a pullback

Total bitcoin futures open interest — which measures the number of contracts yet to be settled — across all expiries was 293,000 on Jan 27, the highest since November, while the put-to-call ratio was 0.42, the lowest in at least a year, according to Laevitas data, indicating traders were favoring calls over puts.

“This is driven by renewed investors’ demand for call options as they expect spot momentum to continue higher,” said Pulkit Goyal, vice president of trading at OrBit Markets.

The trend in futures may not necessarily be bullish for bitcoin or ether, though, as investors also use these derivatives as hedges against falls in their other investments.

“People are interested in the upside potential of bitcoin and ether, but also concerned about a potential pullback after the massive run-up in prices,” said CK Zheng, founder of crypto derivatives-focused hedge fund ZX Squared.

“On both sides of the equation, people are trying to get some protection.”

Risk and recession rear

The macro backdrop of a potential US recession or that of further tightening by the Federal Reserve is just one among several factors that could derail the latest rally.

After US jobs data came in better than expected last week, markets are betting that the Fed may hike interest rates further than initially expected, which could douse demand for riskier assets such as cryptocurrencies.

“We’re probably not out of the woods yet,” said Ume-Ezeoke at Laevitas. “In the short term, a lot of people are anticipating some sort of correction.”

Workforce Reduction of 11% at Daraz, an E-Commerce Company Backed by Alibaba Group

0

Alibaba Group subsidiary, Daraz Group, an e-commerce platform, is reducing its workforce by 11 per cent to prepare for the ‘current market reality’, the group’s CEO Bjarke Mikkelsen said in a letter to employees shared on the company website.

Mikkelsen cited a difficult market environment, with a war in Europe, huge supply chain disruptions, soaring inflation, increasing taxes, and removal of essential government subsidies in its markets. The group operates in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Daraz, Pakistan’s largest e-commerce retail platform, was founded in 2012 in Pakistan and acquired by Chinese giant Alibaba in 2018. It has 100,000 SMEs in Pakistan on its platform.

Ehsan Saya, managing director of Daraz Pakistan, told Reuters that Pakistan is its biggest market and said that Pakistan has the most number of employees employed across Daraz markets.

“Both Bangladesh and Pakistan have a similar number of staff impacted since both of them are similar in market size.”

Saya confirmed to Reuters that the 11pc employee cut across the group will also mean an 11pc cut in Pakistan.

The group did not immediately respond to a Reuters request to comment on the number of employees to be impacted by the move and details on restructuring.

In the letter, Mikkelsen said Daraz had been able to increase their active shoppers from three million in 2018 to more than 15m at present, adding that this was done with “an average order growth of almost 100pc until last year”.

Daraz said in 2021 it had access to 500m customers, with a team of 10,000 employees. It has invested $100m in Pakistan and Bangladesh over the last two years.

Role of space technology in national development

The importance of planning in national development is like a bright lamp. Identifying and achieving national needs in the near future is only possible with good planning, while access to authentic information is essential.

Although the acquisition of authentic information is a very patient and difficult process, its fruits can be used for many decades, an example of which is the census.

Acquiring accurate information along with its associated placement is also indispensable. Suppose a provincial government has to plan the construction of a road in a tehsil to make the supply of commodities to the markets easier and more efficient.

This work requires planning based on factual information. For example, obtaining information on factors such as identification of commodity production areas in this tehsil, information on current population density, existing road conditions, identification of problematic areas, etc. and planning based on this. Action alone can guarantee real progress.

Geographical system is basically an integrated system of three factors, including Global Positioning System, Satellite Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System Included.

Read: SPARCO and Global Navigation Satellite System Technology

The US, Russia, China and India have launched their own satellites in space, which enable global positioning systems. The positioning of ships and airplanes and of humans on land owes to this system.

Obtaining information about the earth and its environment with the help of satellites is very effective in national development and planning. Glacier and forest erosion and loss of area can be monitored through this system and compared to climate change.

The increase in the amount of carbon and other gases in the atmosphere, its effects on human life and the causes of its increase can be assessed with this system. It is also possible to obtain information about the composition of the earth, access to its treasures, and the changes taking place in it thanks to this system.

In the 2005 earthquake, it was possible to assess the destruction in remote villages with the help of satellite images. The strategy of projects implemented in country dimensions may be possible even without some degree of access there. Assessment and accurate measurement of the availability of natural resources and crops can also be compiled through this system and as a result, national goals can be achieved through adequate planning.

Geographic information systems are a viable component of planning. Information obtained from satellites is used in an integrated manner with geographic information systems to enable better planning. Suppose that the selection of a place for a water reservoir is to be carried out in a place, then for this, the information obtained from satellites and geographical information systems can be used to select a suitable place sitting in the office.

Similarly, route selection for a new road in difficult mountainous areas is also possible thanks to an integrated geographic system. Advanced battle planning, monitoring of enemy movements and the ability to launch missiles at the right place is also a feature of this system.

Factors like planning of urban areas, resolution of land disputes, identification of illegally occupied land can be easily addressed through geospatial systems. A smartphone is a common thing nowadays and with the help of its built-in geolocation system, one can easily reach any address in the city by choosing a suitable route. In 2006, the US Department of Labor listed geographic systems as one of the fastest growing sectors.

In Pakistan, the Election Commission conducts constituencies for national level elections on the basis of population distribution, while the Department of Statistics obtains population information on the basis of the census that was conducted in the country 18 years ago.

The use of integrated geographic system in the census process ensures the availability of authentic population information and on this basis the distribution of constituencies and all other resources on the basis of solid facts can be possible due to which the country can develop in an even manner. will be able to determine the goals of

Setting and achieving goals based on guesswork can only be interpreted as a madman’s dream. It is time for the government to make full use of the Integrated Geographical System (GIS) in the prospective census to pave the way for better future planning and national development.

For the first time at the national level, the Ministry of Planning and National Development has defined the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project through geospatial maps and has tried to highlight the equitable distribution of resources in the provinces through this system. That is a welcome thing.

Therefore, it is not possible to achieve the goals of national development without geographical system. It is necessary for the government to take appropriate measures for the development and promotion of this system.

This system has its roots in the Kingdom of God, but it needs serious efforts to become a tree. Pakistan does not have any satellite system except Paksat 1R which only provides communication facilities.

Know: Metro Bus or Mars? What are our priorities?

It is a fact that Pakistan was the first country in the region to launch a rocket into space with the help of the US space agency, but today we are far behind our neighbors China and India in this field.

India has set milestones in space development and has reached the Moon and Mars and now many Western countries including the US are looking to India to send their planets into space at low cost.

In view of the importance of geographic system in Pakistan, the legislative process on it was completed in 2004, whereby no individual or institution is eligible to work on geographic system without the permission of Survey of Pakistan.

Now on the one hand it has been made subject only to the permission of the Survey of Pakistan, on the other hand the government has failed to implement this law and to properly encourage the people involved in this sector.

The law also calls for the establishment of a National Information Framework, which will bring together geographic information in the country and make it accessible to users, but there is little concrete evidence of this. The results have not come out.

Now that the government is moving towards a census after almost 20 years, it is important that this work is now less supported by traditional methods, and more dependent on technology, so that the planning process is better and can be made more effective

Wikipedia Banned in Pakistan over Blasphemy!

0

KARACHI: On Wednesday Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said it had “degraded” Wikipedia services over non-compliance of an earlier direction to remove “unlawful” content. Without explaining the measures taken against the platform, the statement said that the site will be halted if it fails to remove the content in question.

“With a little effort, you can block the objectionable pages yourself on Wikipedia instead of degrading the full service,” responded a Twitter user to a PTA tweet.

Wikipedia was approached for blocking/ removal of the said content by issuing a notice under the applicable law and court order(s). An opportunity for a hearing was also provided; however, the platform neither complied by removing the blasphemous content nor did it appear before the authority, as per the statement.

Pakistan also regularly degrades or blocks sites during protests. In 2017, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram were all blocked as clashes with law enforcement occurred in Faizabad. In April 2021, social media – Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and Telegram – was cut for just four hours. And last May, the internet went offline altogether during a march protesting the ousting of prime minister Imran Khan.

“Alternatively, restrictions may be placed on these websites and warnings may be issued to deal with such issues tactfully. Wikipedia is paramount in the functioning of society and it is not favourable to ban such an important tool. Hence, the government and its cyber-security department should focus on banning access to links containing blasphemous content instead of banning the website in its entirety”

The restoration of Wikipedia’s services will be reconsidered subject to blocking/removal of the reported unlawful content, said the authority in a statement adding that PTA is committed to ensuring a safe online experience for all Pakistani citizens according to local laws.

The influence of TikTok on music industry

0

TikTok has become one of the music industry’s most powerful promotional platforms, with several Grammy nominees rising to popularity due to TikTok videos featuring their music. However, as deals with major music companies expire, the music labels are seeking to receive some of TikTok ad revenue.

The app limits music clips to one minute and does not allow the full-length songs available on other streaming apps, leading some industry executives to argue that TikTok should be paying more. Recently, TikTok began preventing certain users in Australia from using some music in their videos, which the company says is a limited test.

TikTok is an important platform for the music industry as it is popular with young consumers who serve as music’s tastemakers, with half of consumers aged 16 to 24 using TikTok weekly. The ability to create videos on TikTok helps forge a connection with fans, but some artists have complained about pressure to create TikTok videos to promote their music.

TikTok influence on the music industry is undeniable and has become a crucial part of a musician marketing strategy. The app algorithm and personalized feed help to surface new and emerging artists to its young audience, creating a massive potential for viral success.

This can lead to increased exposure and popularity for the artists, as well as major benefits for their record labels. On the other hand, the app control over the distribution of music, limitations on song lengths, and influence over the  industry have raised concerns and sparked discussions about fair compensation for artists and labels.

Despite the challenges, TikTok remains a vital player in the music industry, providing an unprecedented platform for artists to connect with their fans and reach new audiences.

Pakistan is impacted by the Ukraine-Russia war

0

The Russia-Ukraine War is a ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine that began in 2014 following the Ukrainian Revolution and the ousting of Ukrainian President Yanukovych. The conflict has its roots in political, economic, and cultural differences between Russia and Ukraine, and has escalated into a military conflict in the Ukrainian region of Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014.

The conflict has also spread to the Donbass region in Eastern Ukraine, where pro-Russian separatists have been fighting against Ukrainian government forces. The war has resulted in thousands of casualties and has had a significant impact on the region, including causing economic and political instability. The international community has condemned Russia’s actions and imposed economic sanctions, while peace negotiations have been attempted through various mechanisms, including the Minsk agreements.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited Moscow and held a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

During the conference, Bilawal called for the resolution of the Ukraine conflict through diplomatic means, as it was affecting developing countries like Pakistan economically. He expressed hope that Russia’s strong tradition of diplomacy would help achieve peace.

Bilawal also said that Pakistan considers Russia an important player in West, South and Central Asia and desired to boost cooperation with Russia in areas such as trade, security, counter- terrorism, education and people-to-people contacts.

Taliban Mosque Attack Leaves 61 Dead

0

Peshawar:On Monday, a suicide bomber belonging to the Taliban detonated himself inside a mosque located in the high-security zone of Peshawar, Pakistan, during afternoon prayers. The powerful blast caused the roof to collapse on the worshippers, leading to the deaths of 61 people and injuries to over 150 others, mostly consisting of police personnel and members of the army and bomb disposal squad.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it was part of their revenge for the killing of one of their commanders in Afghanistan last year. The Capital City Police Officer of Peshawar stated that the bombing appeared to have been a result of a security lapse. The prayer leader of the mosque and several sub-inspectors were among those killed.

Some people are believed to still be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed portion of the mosque.

The authorities in charge of the rescue operation are currently focused on saving people who are trapped under the debris from the bombing. The bomber was able to enter the highly secure mosque within the police lines, despite four layers of security in place.

Officials are investigating how the bomber entered the fortified area. There is a possibility that the bomber had been residing inside the police lines, where family quarters are also located, prior to the attack. The headquarters of several important organizations, including the police and telecommunications department, are situated near the blast site.

The Prime Minister and Army Chief arrived in Peshawar to oversee the rescue and relief operation and visited a hospital to check on the health of the injured.

An emergency meeting was called, and the preliminary investigation report was presented. The police chief informed the Prime Minister that he was uncertain about the origin and entry of the bomber into the police lines.

The person in charge of the investigation of the attack, Shazad Kaukab, narrowly escaped the suicide bombing as he had just entered the mosque to offer prayers. The Prime Minister condemned the attack and stated that those responsible have no connection to Islam.

He pledged to adopt a comprehensive strategy to address the increasing lawlessness and violence in the region, and promised that the government will support the provinces in boosting their anti-terrorism efforts. The Foreign Minister and the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also condemned the attack and urged people to donate blood for the wounded. An emergency has been declared at the local hospitals, and security has been heightened in major cities, including Islamabad, in the aftermath of the bombing.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and the caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan have both condemned the terrorist attack in the mosque. Imran Khan expressed his condolences and stated that improvements in intelligence gathering and equipping the police are crucial in fighting terrorism.

The TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan), a group linked to al-Qaeda, has been held responsible for previous deadly attacks in Pakistan and recently called off a ceasefire with the government. Last year, a similar attack in a Shia mosque resulted in 63 deaths. In 2014, the TTP carried out the brutal attack on an Army Public School in Peshawar, killing 150 people, including 131 students.

Panara Chandrashekhar’s song ‘Lakdi Ki Kathi’ is on child awareness

0
India: Every minute around the world, one or the other kidnapping is taking place in some country, state or city. To prevent this, many programs are run by the government and state governments. But then such crimes keep happening in the world.
Gujarat police officer Panara Chandrasekhar has composed a song against this crime. So that our young children do not become victims of this crime. This song of Panara is based on child awareness. So that the children get an idea of what we have to take from whom and with whom we have to go.
Police Officer Panara Chandrasekhar’s new song ‘Lakdi Ki Kathi’ has been released from the official YouTube channel of Panara Chandrasekhar and this song has been shot on Panara Chandrasekhar and his daughter Aara Panara.
There are many such movements in the song which must have happened to us sometime or the other. In this song, Panara Chandrasekhar’s singing along with Janaki’s funny acting is also being seen. Aara has also won hearts with her innocence.
His Daughter Aara Panara touches heart in Panara Chandrashekhar’s ‘Lakdi Ki Kathi’
Despite being a police officer, Panara Chandrashekhar is working as a creative artist, a singer, writer, actor, who is working to build a communication between the police and the public.
Due to which the people’s faith in the police increases, their trust increases and people are not afraid of the police. Rather consider the police as your friend. Panara Chandrasekhar’s making such an effort is highly commendable. This song is working to make us aware about kidnapping.

Scarsdale International School: Other side of story

0

Lahore: A video on social media recently went viral of a girl being tortured by her classmates at Scarsdale International School in Lahore and authorities were prompted to take notice and launch an investigation. The video, which has been shared numerous times on Twitter, shows three teenage girls holding their classmate by the hair and pinning her to the ground. The group is heard verbally abusing the alleged victim and telling her to “say sorry“. Another girl is also seen kicking the girl’s forehead, while another is seen recording a video of the episode on her mobile phone.

Recently another girl from the same school wrote:

“do not mention me. I am also from scarsdale and i have been in scarsdale for 13 years. the “victim” herself is an alcoholic. the girls beating her up are actually beating her up because of the fact that the she leaked nude photos of one of them to the girl’s father. They went to her to asked that why she did that and that she had to apologise. That is why they are saying “say sorry” in the video. Yes, the way is extremely wrong but the reason is valid. Now this victim’s father is very strong political personality. He leaked the video and wrote about drug nonsense just to show their “power”.”

Scarsdale Scandal

The Pakistani media has been criticized for often presenting a one-sided narrative and missing important details or perspectives in their coverage. This can be seen in their reporting on political issues, human rights violations, and social issues.

One major issue is the lack of unbiased reporting on political issues. The media often favors certain political parties or individuals and presents a biased narrative, leaving out important details or perspectives that may contradict their preferred narrative. This can lead to a lack of understanding and mistrust among the public.

Another issue is the lack of coverage on human rights violations in the country. The media often chooses to downplay or ignore these issues, which can lead to a lack of accountability for those responsible. This can also perpetuate a culture of impunity, where those in power feel they can act with impunity without fear of consequence.

In addition, the media often fails to provide a comprehensive understanding of social issues. They may focus on one aspect of an issue, such as poverty, and neglect to explore the root causes or potential solutions. This can lead to a lack of understanding and a lack of progress in addressing these issues.

Overall, the Pakistani media has a responsibility to present a balanced and unbiased narrative to the public. It is crucial for the media to provide a comprehensive understanding of important issues and to hold those in power accountable. Without this, the public may be left with a distorted understanding of the truth, leading to mistrust and a lack of progress in addressing important issues.

Daily Struggles of a Common Pakistani

0

Pakistan is a country of over 220 million people, with a diverse population that is spread out across a vast geographical area. Despite the country’s rich culture and history, the common Pakistani faces a multitude of struggles on a daily basis. These struggles are diverse and range from economic and social issues to political and security concerns.

One of the biggest struggles that the common Pakistani faces is poverty. According to the World Bank, over 30% of Pakistan’s population lives below the poverty line. This means that they do not have access to basic necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare. The lack of economic opportunities and a lack of education are major contributing factors to poverty in Pakistan. This poverty also leads to poor living conditions, with many people living in overcrowded and unsanitary slums.

Another major struggle that the common Pakistani faces is unemployment. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the unemployment rate in Pakistan is over 6%. This means that millions of Pakistanis are without jobs and are unable to provide for themselves and their families. This is especially true for young people, who often struggle to find work after completing their education.

Education is also a major concern in Pakistan. The country has a literacy rate of only 58%, which is one of the lowest in the world. This is due to a lack of funding for education, as well as a lack of quality schools and teachers. Many children in Pakistan do not have access to education, and those who do often receive poor quality instruction. This leads to a lack of skills and knowledge that can limit opportunities in life.

The political situation in Pakistan is also a major concern for the common Pakistani. The country has a history of military coups and political instability, which has led to a lack of trust in the government. This has also led to a lack of accountability, with politicians and bureaucrats often acting in their own self-interest. The common Pakistani often feels that they have no voice in the political process and that their needs and concerns are not being addressed by the government.

Security is also a major concern for the common Pakistani. The country has been plagued by terrorism and sectarian violence for many years. This has led to a lack of safety and security for the common Pakistani, who often fears for their own safety and that of their loved ones. This insecurity also affects the economic situation, with many foreign investors hesitant to invest in Pakistan due to the security situation.

It is important that the government and society as a whole take steps to address these issues, in order to improve the lives of the common Pakistani

The Impact of COVID-19 on Mental Health

0

International: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected nearly every aspect of our lives, and our mental health is no exception. The stress and uncertainty caused by the virus, coupled with social isolation and financial strain, has led to a significant increase in mental health issues.

Depression and anxiety are among the most commonly reported mental health problems during the pandemic. A survey conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) found that nearly one in five people reported experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety during the pandemic.

The pandemic has also led to an increase in substance abuse, as people turn to alcohol and drugs to cope with the stress and isolation. A study conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) found that the number of adults reporting substance abuse increased by nearly 20% during the pandemic.

The pandemic has also had a significant impact on the mental health of children and teenagers. A study conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics found that the number of children and teenagers seeking treatment for mental health problems increased by nearly 30% during the pandemic.

The pandemic has also highlighted the disparities in mental health care, as minority communities and low-income individuals are disproportionately affected by the virus and have less access to mental health services.

The good news is that help is available. Mental health professionals are available to provide support and treatment, and many are offering virtual therapy sessions to make it more accessible. Support groups and hotlines are also available to provide a listening ear and emotional support.

It is important to take care of our mental health during this difficult time. We should reach out for help if we need it, and take steps to maintain our mental well-being, such as staying connected with loved ones, getting regular exercise, practicing mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

As the world continues to grapple with the pandemic, it is more important than ever to take care of our mental health. By seeking help when we need it and taking steps to maintain our well-being, we can get through this difficult times.

Did anyone refer to Ukraine as having “war fatigue”?

This has not been the colder time of year Vladimir Putin wanted. The Russian president anticipated that temperatures should fall, and with them Ukrainian purpose as well as Western strength. No part of this occurred.

France’s new choice to convey tank-killing shielded battle vehicles to Ukraine relaxed reservations among partners about sending heavier, Western-made hardware for fears that such a move would address heightening against Russia.

The day after the French declaration, the U.S. serious 50 Bradley infantry battling vehicles as a feature of a further tranche of military help worth $3 billion. Germany at long last consented to convey Marder shielded vehicles and Loyalist against rocket frameworks. The Unified Realm and the Netherlands are among numerous nations that might stick to this same pattern.

Clean President Andrzej Duda has communicated his preparation to pass one more boundary, that of primary fight tanks, by proposing to convey Panther 2 as a feature of a bigger European alliance. He in this way includes pressure Chancellor Olaf Scholz since the German-caused tanks to require Berlin’s endorsement to be sent anyplace.

The weapons would be a major lift for Ukraine’s military, yet Germany starting from the start of the conflict has continually would not make points of reference in military help, yielding just when under tension. The ongoing degree of strain could not as yet be illogical, however it is exceptionally high and could extend breaks in the nation’s administering alliance. These new conveyances are urgent because of multiple factors.

As far as one might be concerned, they fulfill Ukrainian needs and needs to fend off Russian powers. At this stage, Ukraine’s most basic necessities lay on two sorts of abilities: air protection frameworks for killing rockets and robots, and heavily clad battle vehicles for getting through adversary lines and free regions. The last option could for sure demonstrate more testing as Russia has fallen back to additional cautious positions, enlisted new soldiers through mass enrollment, got back to excited modern creation (40 to 50 weighty shielded vehicles each month) and is swarming its best tanks, the T-90, in eastern Ukraine.

The informing of Ukraine’s partners is additionally instrumental to overcome Moscow in the “clash of resolves” on which Putin bet for a simple success against a purportedly separated, divided West. This is one more hallucination for Putin, after assumptions that Ukrainians would invite Russians, that the nation’s military would be crushed in no time, and that the progression of time would slant in support of Russia. It is likewise significant for the resolve of the Ukrainian powers, as they are taking on extreme conflicts in the Donetsk district.

At last, the European move forward looks good for the fate of Western help to Ukraine. It is empowering for overseas relations, as the US was legitimately expecting an all the more even weight sharing, particularly at a second where its new Congress could entangle Washington’s help. It is likewise certain for inter-European relations, as western mainland Europe has taken a great deal of fire from Eastern partners for not satisfying the test. It demonstrates the way that Europeans can take intense choices, which could prompt further choices on significantly heavier gear without hanging tight for the US.

However this new wave doesn’t come without chances. The hesitance to give Ukraine locally planned weighty reinforced battling vehicles was grounded in fears that this could be blamed by Russia so as to heighten. In the current case, heightening could involve expanded utilization of to a great extent undiscovered strategic weapons and, eventually, a possible atomic choice.

Actually subjective redesigns in military guide to Ukraine are probably going to change the strategic scene for Russia however not its essential condition.

There is no less than one thing on which Russia and NATO concur: Neither need the coalition straightforwardly hauled into the conflict. The principles to forestall such an occasion were set from the beginning they actually hold. They are that NATO countries will not end up as co-belligerents in Ukraine and that Russia will not go after NATO domain. It suggests that the weapons conveyed from abroad are in Ukrainian hands, and that their ammo don’t fall an on Russian area. In such manner, the new military guide doesn’t change the standards of the game as long as Ukrainians regard these principles of commitment.

Regardless, it ultimately depends on the Ukrainians to say assuming that they will bear the dangers of acceleration as opposed to for the West to choose for them. Furthermore, Ukrainian brings in such manner couldn’t be all the more clear: Heavier, more refined hardware isn’t a trepidation enhancer, yet an apprehension eraser.

On the atomic condition, the main heightening that the new conveyances could bring about would be connected with Moscow’s way of talking. Russia is quite mindful that atomic dangers no affect Ukrainian determination. The fundamental goal of Moscow’s atomic saber-shaking is accordingly to unnerve the West so it limits its help to Ukraine. This, as well, appears to have fizzled.

This new flood of military help to Ukraine can be a turning point. It could can conclusively turn around the tide, in the event that it is quickly carried out, supported, and obviously improved.
