    According to National Highway Authority (NHA): Four firms have completed the feasibility study for the construction of a 10 KM – long tunnel in the Kalar Kahar Salt Range on M-2 Lahore, Islamabad (Motorway), to prevent accidents on the route which have become frequent now.

    A report by 24NewsHD TV channel, the GM of the National Highway Authority (NHA) has confirmed the completion of the feasibility study. The tunnel’s construction is expected to significantly enhance safety and reduce travel time between the Lahore and Islamabad by approximately 25 to 35 minutes.

    History of M-2 Lahore-Islamabad Motorway:

    The Lahore-Islamabad motorway is 375 km long and one of the most expensive motorways in Asia, located entirely in Punjab. It passes through, Faizpur Pur, Kot Abdull Malik, Kala Shah Kaku, Sheikhupura, Khanqah Dogran, Kot Sarwar, Pindi Bhattian, Salem, Lilla, Kot Momin, Kallar Kahar, Balksar, Nila Dulha and Chakri before ending just outside the twin cities Rawalpindi and Islamabad. It was the first motorway built in South Asia.

    Construction of the Lahore- Islamabad motorway M-2 commenced in 1992. The motorway was officially opened to traffic in 1997, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s infrastructural development. The M-2 was designed to meet international standards, featuring dual carriageways, multiple lanes, and state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the safety and comfort of travelers.
