Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Green Initiative: Electric Buses and Sustainable Transport in Punjab

0

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif introduces electric buses in Punjab, promoting eco-friendly transport with affordable fares and modern facilities for the public.

Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced electric buses in Lahore, Pakistan, to facilitate people.

In her speech, Chief Minister of Punjab, Pakistan, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, said that when Pakistani people, especially poor people, get relief, then she and her father, ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, feel very happy.

She praised Minister of Transport Bilal for his hard work on this project of electric buses. She also praised the predecessor of Minister of Transport, Doctor Qazi, for his contribution. She also mentioned that she has inaugurated a fleet of 27 buses, and further, a fleet of 500 buses will be in Pakistan Punjab in August.

She said that these buses will be completely environmentally friendly; these buses have zero emissions, they are 100 percent electric, these buses can be charged in 3 hours, and they can be on the route for the next complete day.

Also, she mentioned that the chief minister’s green initiative electro card will be given to all the passengers so that they can swipe this card and can easily travel. On these buses, she also mentioned that these buses are completely free for students, senior citizens, and differently abled individuals, and for other people, the ticket or charges are 20 rupees only.

She also shared that when she travelled on this bus, she talked with ladies, in which there were many students, and working women were also travelling. She said when she asked them about their experiences, then they said they were using public transport daily, in which metro buses and speedo buses are included.

One student said they cost 3000 PKR per month to her, and she said these 3000 PKR are also difficult for her to pay. The chief minister said, I felt very happy to realise that now she has to pay 20 PKR only.
She said these buses have zero carbon emissions and a minimum fare of 20 rupees. She said that with this fleet of 27 buses, 17000 travellers will be facilitated by it. These buses are not only environmentally and pocket-friendly.

In fact, these buses have the latest facilities, such as free Wi-Fi, mobile charging, and CCTV monitoring for harassment issues with ladies. Also, there is an automatic ramp for differently abled people so that they can enter the bus easily with their wheelchair.

She also shared that because of the hot weather in Pakistan, she has instructed the minister of transport to install mist fans and electric water coolers there. Also to facilitate women financially she has installed small chaos on every bus stop in which there will be cold drinks, snacks and other eatables will be available so that the people on bus stop can eat from their and for ladies it will be job creation for them as well.

She also shared that she is trying to complete her initiative of giving 100 electric bikes to students free annually. For this, she has discussed with many Chinese companies to bid and make an assembly unit in Pakistan.

Also, she said she is introducing charging stations as a facility in many points for people to charge their bikes, especially in schools, colleges, universities, and companies to save people time.

And she is also introducing another system, likewise Uber, in which you call the person, he will reach your location in a truck and take your battery for charging, and give you another charged battery on the spot to save time.
I think so. Maryam Nawaz has understood that she will go in the next election with performance. This nomenclature that she is the daughter of the ex-prime minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, is not enough, and if I am right and she has genuinely understood that, then we can easily understand why she is doing all these things in Punjab, Pakistan.

27 buses on route 500 will come to Pakistan in August, and she will give 1 lakh electric bikes to students. All the things she has done so far are on the surface; they are not hidden. These things are building a reputation of chief minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz that she is reaching deserving people on grass root level and they are getting facilitate and getting benefits.
Likewise, the Ramzan package is coming from the chief minister of Pakistan, in which thirty-nine lakh families will benefit from it. They will get five thousand rupees, and this will cost 20 billion and 50 crore rupees (20,500,000,000). So, this expenditure on people, the benefits people are getting from it, obviously this will be shown.

This is something the last government did not understand: that if you serve people, they will never disown you. One thing is one model was made by ex-chief minister Mohsin Naqvi and one is made by chief minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz in one year if this type of models will be made in future, then definitely people will get relief from it.

Now we have to this tradition of progress made by Maryam Nawaz will other province also get inspired by this and no doubt Chief Minister Punjab Pakistan Maryam Nawaz sharif is trying her best for progress of Punjab Pakistan.

Baeyyet and Fatima Amjed: The Revivalists Redefining Lahore’s Performing Arts Scene

0

In the heart of Lahore, where tradition and modernity are constantly at odds, a quiet yet powerful revolution is taking place. It is not happening in grand theatres with red velvet curtains or on mainstream television screens, it is unfolding in open air courtyards, dimly lit heritage sites, and intimate black box spaces.

Baeyyet and Fatima Amjed are at the front of this shift, breathing life back into performance art with an energy that is raw, immersive, and deeply rooted in South Asian storytelling traditions.

Baeyyet isn’t just a dance collective; it is a statement. It is a reclamation of movement as a form of storytelling, as resistance, as a language of its own. In a time when performance art is often confined to elite spaces or commercialized into oblivion, Baeyyet chooses something different. They take their craft to spaces that carry the weight of history, old havelis, forgotten courtyards, and cultural landmarks allowing their performances to merge with the past while speaking to the present.

Their work is a contemporary take on classical and folk movement, Kathak, Bharatanatyam, semi-classical and indigenous styles, fused together in a way that feels urgent rather than nostalgic. Each performance tells a story, not just of movement but of emotion, identity, and the South Asian experience. It’s dance stripped of artifice, yet layered with meaning.

Baeyyet challenges the idea that dance is mere entertainment. Instead, it becomes a conversation, a confrontation, a call to remember what was nearly lost. In a city that is often in a rush to modernize, Baeyyet stands as a reminder that tradition, when reinterpreted with passion and authenticity, is anything but outdated.

While Baeyyet moves, Fatima Amjed makes words and emotions take shape in ways that are both mesmerizing and haunting. A theatre artist in the purest sense, she defies the conventional boundaries of performance. Lahore’s theatre scene, long dominated by either mainstream comedy productions or underground avant-garde work, is finding a new center with her creations. While speaking with Erum Ahmed on daftarkhwan Fireside, Amjed stated:

In Lahore, I want my people to see art in the streets, to witness performances in spaces that belong to them, because this city and its people deserve that experience.

Her performances, whether she’s directing, writing, or acting, demand engagement. They refuse to be passive spectacles. Her work often explores themes of identity, loss, and resistance, drawing from both classical storytelling structures and contemporary realities. She is unafraid of silence, of stillness, of tension, elements often neglected in the pursuit of fast-paced, commercial theatre.

What sets her apart is her commitment to making theatre an experience rather than just an event. Whether performing in traditional auditoriums or unconventional spaces, her work disrupts expectations. She brings back the intimacy and urgency of theatre, where every line spoken and every pause held carries weight.

Together, Baeyyet and Fatima Amjed represent a movement that is challenging Lahore’s artistic landscape. They are proving that performance art doesn’t need excessive commercial backing or grand production value to be impactful. It needs heart, intent, and an understanding of the rich cultural fabric from which it stems.

In a world where attention spans are shrinking, where art is often reduced to content meant for scrolling past, their work forces you to stop, feel, and absorb. They are reviving what was once central to South Asian culture: performance as a means of storytelling, of resistance, of connection. While talking about admiration of art in South Asia, Amjed said:

Our people connect to South Asian music instinctively. They don’t enjoy things that feel unfamiliar. I realized the power of music through this, and I knew that this is what I need to play with—presenting a beautiful choreography with a piece that speaks to them.

This isn’t just art. It’s a renaissance in the making

Is a new ocean in making?

0

250 million years ago, the Earth had one continent and one ocean. Historically, it rested on tectonic plates, which are constantly moving due to radioactive processes within the Earth’s mantle. Over time, the movement caused the formation of seven continents.

Ocean trenches, volcanoes, earthquakes, and mountain buildings occur because of the movement of the plates. Earth consists of these plates, mainly the Eurasian plate, North American plate, South American plate, Arabian plate, Indian plate, Somali plate, Australian plate, Pacific plate, Philippine plate, etc.

Plates map
World Tectonic Plates

The plate boundaries (fault lines) are categorized as Convergent, Divergent, and Transform. Convergent boundaries suggest that plates tend to move one into another, divergent ones move apart, and transform boundaries move horizontally. Saudi Arabia was torn apart from Africa due to the divergent nature of the Arabian and African plate boundaries, creating the Red Sea.

The world’s highest mountain peaks, including Mount Everest and K-2, are situated in Himalayan regions. The mountain range came into existence due to the convergent nature of the Indian and Eurasian plates. Both divergent and convergent phenomena happened millions of years ago.

Due to the divergent nature of plate boundaries, the African, Somali, and Arabian plates are moving apart. The rift between the African and Somali plates is known as the East African Rift System (EARS). Due to the rift, there are lakes, including Lake Albert, Lake Tanganyika, and Lake Malawi. The rift can potentially cause the creation of a sixth ocean in Africa, where ocean water can flood from the Gulf of Aden through these lakes towards Mozambique in the south.

However, the rate of plate movement is very slow (6-7 mm/year). Creating a new ocean and land mass will take over 10 million years. The geography of many countries, including Zambia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Congo, etc, will significantly change. A coastline and other economic activities will emerge for these landlocked countries.

African, Somali, and Arabian Plates are moving apart

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a US-based navigation system that provides the precise location of any point on the Earth. The network of ground-receiving stations installed in the area also provided accurate location stations and distances among them with mm accuracy. In 2005, a GPS network installed along African and Somali plates confirmed that both plates were moving apart.

Real Estate: From Obsolete Record to Modernize System

0

In Pakistan, matters related to real estate (land and any permanent structure on it) are still managed using traditional methods like handwritten maps on cloth (latha) by patwaris (village record keepers) in rural areas and paper-based drawings in urban areas. Most of the system is based on the local measurement unit of karam.

In contrast, countries like the Netherlands, Australia, Singapore, and others have advanced to sophisticated computerized systems using Geographic Information System, Satellite/Drone Remote Sensing, Electronic Measuring Distance (EDM) for surveying, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), etc. Additionally, they are developing multi-story building models (digital twin) and Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) 3D point cloud data to develop smart cities for efficient urban development and real estate management.

A 3D model of high-rise buildings in Rotterdam as well as across the entire Netherlands, has been created (link)

One of the major social issues in Pakistan today is the inheritance and division of real estate and boundary demarcation, which has a foundation in joint ownership (khewat). The issues related to real estate have reached a critical stage. Take the case of Muhammad Ashraf from a remote village in southern Punjab. His grandfather’s inheritance of 4 acres of land was divided equally between his father and uncle 40 years ago.

This land, consisting of two plots, was divided amicably: the uncle chose the plot near the village, while the father took the one farther away. Ashraf’s father and uncle mutually agreed to exchange some land so that both brothers could have better locations for livestock fodder. However, this informal arrangement was never recorded in the revenue department’s official records.

Ashraf has five siblings, each of whom has four children. Similarly, Ashraf’s uncle has six sons and daughters, along with grandchildren, one of whom is Ashraf’s wife. Ashraf’s wife was also entitled to a share in the property from her father. The construction of a major highway near the land in 2013 exponentially increased its value, sparking a feud within the family.

With around 50 members now claiming equal rights to the most valuable portion, disputes escalated to court cases, severely affecting the relationships between the two families, including Ashraf’s marriage. The conflict negatively impacted their children, the extended family, and broader social dynamics.

In the same village, another dispute over the inheritance and demarcation of property between a nephew and his uncle has persisted for years. The resulting animosity has created such deep rifts that they avoid attending each other’s weddings and funerals.

These examples highlight the outdated and ineffective systems of the revenue department, which have transformed land disputes into a social crisis. The joint ownership system (khewat) is obsolete, and the lack of individual land demarcation has intensified family conflicts and social issues.

The Government faces significant revenue losses due to the undervaluation of real estate. In Rawalpindi city, which has 25 revenue zones,  a single zone reported a loss of 23 million PKR  in annual immovable property taxation due to undervaluation. For comparison, in 2017,Chennai, India—a city with a population of 10 million—collected more revenue from property tax than the entire Punjab province of Pakistan, home to over 100 million people.

Real estate disputes are among the leading causes of conflicts and violence worldwide, including in Pakistan. An estimated 50-70% of cases in Pakistan’s civil and high courts are related to land disputes, with additional cases in the revenue courts. According to the Punjab Land Records Authority, the number of land disputes in 2018 was approximately 200,000, dropping to around 100,000 in 2021.

The growing population and rapid urbanization have exacerbated real estate issues. Pakistan’s population has surpassed 250 million and is expected to grow further, with urbanization occurring at an annual rate of 3.6% compared to the rural growth rate of 1.9%. This surge has placed immense pressure on urban administration, particularly on outdated and manual real estate management.

In Punjab, where the agriculture sector dominates, 70% of the population is directly or indirectly linked to land for income. The province has 8,000 patwaris and other revenue staff managing the records of 20 million rural landowners in more than 25,000 revenue estates (mauza), excluding urban property records. Women face significant challenges in claiming their inheritance rights, and many are deprived of their legal shares.

According to a 2020 government report, only 17% of landowners were female in Punjab. A recent survey revealed that the primary causes of land disputes include fraud, joint ownership (khewat), and illegal possession. This is worth noting that many landowners and buyers are dissatisfied with the current systems, particularly with government institutions responsible for land administration.

Over a century ago, during the British colonial period, a land revenue system was introduced in South Asia to collect agricultural taxes from landowners. Laws like the Land Revenue Act of 1887 and the Land Registration Act of 1905 were established. However, these laws were primarily designed to exploit the local population and enrich the British Empire.

Despite gaining independence from British rule in 1947, Pakistan continues to operate under these outdated systems with minor modifications. The implementation of laws is very weak and not taken care of in general. For instance, the Ghouri Town development in Islamabad has been declared illegal by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). Yet, as shown in the image below, urban infrastructure development continues at a rapid pace in the area from 2005-2023.

Worldwide, land and property ownership rights are recorded either through a Title System or Deed Registration. In case of a property dispute, the Title System ensures the protection of the ownership rights of the current owner, while in the Deed Registration system, the owner must prove their ownership based on old records.

Under the Title System, the government takes responsibility for any loss to the owner’s ownership rights and provides compensation. Additionally, this system reflects ground realities, meaning any changes in ownership or boundaries of the property during its sale or purchase are immediately recorded as part of the system.

In Pakistan, however, Deed Registration and the Record of Rights (Registry of Landowners) are two separate records. The deed registration must be separately entered into the Record of Rights. Typically, the Record of Rights is updated every four years.

Modern land administration involves four key components:

  • Land Tenure: Ownership and rights over land
  • Land Valuation: Revenue collection from land use
  • Land Use: Allocation of land for various purposes
  • Land Development: Urban infrastructure and planning

Efficient and integrated land administration systems are crucial for sustainable development. In 2015, the United Nations introduced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming for global prosperity and environmental security. However, recent studies indicate that Pakistan lags significantly in achieving these goals, particularly in real estate management.

A recently published study has adapted the international standard Land Administration Domain Model (ISO 19152-2012) for Pakistan. There is a need to implement this model across all relevant institutions, including the Revenue Departments and Development Authorities in the country.

Google Earth 3D view of Islamabad (link)

Efforts to modernize land administration are underway globally. Digital twins of urban areas and the establishment of smart cities are no longer futuristic concepts. In Pakistan, the first phase of land computerization (Land Record Management Information System-LRMIS) began in 2006, with Punjab, Sindh and KPK establishing land record service delivery centers.

The centres provide land mutation and ownership records (fard malkiyat). However, these centers only cater to rural land records, while urban records remain neglected.

Recently, the second phase of computerization in Punjab is launched as the Punjab Urban Land Systems Enhancement (PULSE) project with World Bank assistance. This initiative aims to digitize land records in urban areas and update Punjab’s land and property maps (masawi/latha/shajra parchah) using modern surveying methods and GIS.

In many areas of the recently merged tribal regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, a formal system for managing land and property does not exist at all. Meanwhile, work on the second phase will still start in Balochistan, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh. It is essential that all provinces work together with cooperation, dedication, and efficiency while also keeping pace with global advancements.

This will ensure that the benefits of development quickly reach the common person. If this modernization of real estate is continued with consistency and sincerity, there is a possibility that sustainable social and economic development goals related to land and property can be achieved in the near future.

KP to Follow Punjab in Another Initiative

0

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced a free laptop scheme for students, promising distribution on par with Punjab.

CM KP assured that if Punjab allocated laptops to a certain proportion of students, his province would follow a similar approach.

He also urged authorities in Punjab to introduce a health insurance program resembling  Sehat Card Plus initiative in KP.

He noted that the entire population of his province was covered under the Sehat Card, with an additional life insurance plan now in place.

He encouraged Punjab to extend comparable healthcare benefits to its residents.

While highlighting economic progress, Gandapur claimed a 55% increase in provincial revenue despite financial challenges.

He contrasted this with Punjab’s reported 12% growth, suggesting that Punjab should aim for a similar revenue boost.

CM said KP achieved a Rs176 billion budget surplus, meeting IMF targets, while Punjab missed its Rs300 billion goal, running a Rs146 billion deficit.

Gandapur announced financial assistance for 4,000 underprivileged brides, with each receiving Rs200,000 to support their wedding expenses.

Pakistan Receives Another Blow After Humiliating Defeat in Champions Trophy

0

Pakistan has been penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate during their opening game against New Zealand at the Champions Trophy 2025.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Thursday that the Men in Green was fined 5 percent of their match fee.

Match referee Andy Pycroft penalized Rizwan-led side for falling one over short of the required quota, despite time allowances.

The penalty aligns with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

It stipulates that players incur a 5% match fee deduction for every over their side fails to complete within the stipulated time frame.

Team captain Mohammad Rizwan acknowledged the breach and agreed to the fine, eliminating the necessity for a formal hearing.

The charge was laid by on-field officials Richard Kettleborough and Sharfuddoula, with support from third umpire Joel Wilson and fourth umpire Alex Wharf.

Following their defeat to New Zealand, Pakistan’s squad departed Karachi on Thursday and arrived in Dubai.

Their next fixture is a high-profile encounter against traditional rivals India, scheduled for Sunday.

Pakistani Student Dies in Australia After e-Bike Battery Explosion in Apartment

0

A fatal fire in Western Sydney has raised fresh concerns about the safety of lithium-ion batteries used in e-bikes, following the death of Pakistani student.

Haider Ali, a food delivery rider, lost his life when his e-bike battery exploded while he was asleep in his shared accommodation.

Emergency crews arrived immediately and managed to contain the blaze to a single room, but Ali was unable to escape.

Hamid Saroha has urged the public to avoid low-quality e-bikes and chargers powered by lithium batteries, citing the growing number of such incidents.

“These fires are becoming increasingly common and can be deadly,” President of the Pakistan Association of Australia, said.

Neighbours described the scene as terrifying, with one witness recalling an explosion, thick smoke, and a man on fire at the front of the house.

Authorities report a surge in lithium battery fires, with 28 incidents in New South Wales this year alone.

Experts are calling for stricter safety regulations on e-bikes and chargers to prevent further tragedies.

A Simple but Tough Scenario for Pakistan to Qualify for the Semi-Final

0

The semi-final hopes of Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2025 were dealt a major blow with a 60-run loss to New Zealand in their opening match.

The defeat has left The Men in Green in a tough spot, with fans now questioning their qualification prospects.

Pakistan will need to secure a must-win victory against India in Dubai on February 23 to stay in the competition.

The strong performance of New Zealand, led by centuries from Tom Latham and Will Young, saw them set a total of 320-5 in 50 overs.

The response of the injury hit Green Shirts was lackluster, as they were dismissed for 260 in 47.2 overs.

The New Zealand bowlers, including Will O’Rourke (3-47), Mitchell Santner (3-66), and Matt Henry (2-25), shared eight wickets between them to seal the win.

With only three group-stage matches in the tournament, Pakistan now faces a must-win scenario in both their remaining matches against India and Bangladesh.

They will also need to closely monitor their net run rate, as a three-way tie could make qualification dependent on superior run rate.

The upcoming match against India is effectively a knockout for Pakistan, leaving them with no room for error.

Pakistan 1 0 1 0 -0.742
New Zealand 1 1 0 2 +0.742

Latest Report Warns of Rapid Glacier Melt and Its Growing Impact

0

A recent Nature assessment warns of the accelerating melt of the glaciers, with major implications for rising sea levels and freshwater resources.

The study, using field and satellite data, shows a 36% increase in ice loss from 2012 to 2023 compared to the previous decade.

Michael Zemp, a professor at the University of Zurich and co-author of the study, called the findings “shocking,” although not entirely unexpected.

The study shows glaciers are losing ice faster, potentially leading to higher sea levels by the century’s end, exceeding previous predictions.

Smaller glaciers, in particular, are melting rapidly, with many expected to vanish entirely by the end of the ongoing century.

Zemp warned that glacier loss could severely impact freshwater supplies, particularly in regions like Central Asia and the Andes.

The study found that the glaciers have lost about 5 percent of their volume since the start of the century, with regional variations.

Antarctica, for instance, has seen a 2 percent reduction, while the European Alps have experienced a staggering 40 percent loss.

Martin Siegert expressed concern over the accelerated ice loss and its implications for ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland.

Zemp urged action to cut greenhouse gas emissions, emphasizing that even a slight reduction in warming could save lives, money, and prevent further damage.

Major Setback for Pakistan as PCB Provides Update on Fakhar Zaman’s Injury

0

Fakhar Zaman has been sidelined from the Champions Trophy after suffering a back injury in the opening match against New Zealand.

The left-handed batter injured his back while fielding in the first over of the match at Karachi’s National Stadium.

Attempting to stop a boundary off the delivery of Shaheen, Zaman fell awkwardly near the boundary rope, clutching his lower back.

He signaled for a substitute fielder before being attended to by the physiotherapist and escorted off the field for further assessment.

Following medical evaluations, doctors have advised Zaman to rest, effectively ending his participation in the tournament.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to issue an official statement soon regarding a replacement for the injured batsman.

This setback is a blow as Zaman was a key top-order player. The team will now need to rethink their opening combination for the rest of the competition.

The PCB is likely to announce the replacement of Fakhar in the coming days as they continue their campaign in the tournament.

Shubman Gill Dethrones Babar Azam as Top-Ranked ODI Batter

0

Shubman Gill has replaced Babar Azam as the top-ranked batter in the latest ODI Rankings, ending his long reign at the summit.

The right-handed batter, who held the No. 1 position for over two years, slipped to second following a dip in form.

The 30-year-old managed scores of 10, 23, and 29 in his last three ODI innings, raising concerns about his consistency.

In contrast, the outstanding form of the Indian opening batter propelled him to the top spot of the ICC ODI rankings.

He amassed 259 runs, including a century and two half-centuries, during the recent home ODI series against England, averaging an impressive 86.33.

Gill now leads the rankings, with Azam trailing by 23 points. Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, retains third place.

Mohammad Rizwan climbed to 15th after a match-winning century in a tri-nation series against South Africa.

Daryl Mitchell entered the top five, with Glenn Phillips and Devon Conway also advancing to 35th and 41st, respectively.

Pakistan Suffers Big Blow as In-Form Player Leaves Field Due to Injury

0

Fakhar Zaman was forced to leave the field with a back injury during the opening over of the Champions Trophy match against New Zealand.

The incident took place as Pakistan’s pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled the first over of the match at the National Stadium.

The left-handed batter sustained the injury while making a diving effort near the boundary to prevent a four.

Although he successfully stopped the ball and relayed it back to his teammates, he appeared to be in visible discomfort.

Holding his lower back, the opening batter signalled for a substitute before receiving initial medical attention near the advertising boards.

The physiotherapist briefly assessed him on the field before escorting him to the dressing room for further evaluation.

The management has not yet provided an update on the severity of the injury, leaving concerns about his availability.

Talking about the game, the national bowling unit dominated by taking three wickets for 73 runs while bowling first.

Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Abrar Ahmed have taken one wicket each, while Shaheen Shah remains wicketless.

Women’s Empowerment in Pakistan: Challenges and the Path Forward

0

Women’s empowerment in Pakistan is essential for equality, economic growth, and social progress, but challenges like discrimination and inequality persist.

The concept of women’s empowerment essentially means that all women should be aware of their rights, as well as their strengths and flaws. It is important for her to understand what she can and should do in this world.

The goal of women’s empowerment is to raise knowledge among all women, particularly among those who lack independence. Additionally, a woman might inspire other women to support women’s empowerment after she achieves success in her life.

The equality of men and women in all spheres of life should be the main point of discussion when discussing women’s empowerment. For instance, if a male offers a woman his seat when she is on public transportation and there are no seats available, she should decline, not use her women’s pass at that moment, and instead stand in the middle of the bus. This was one way to look at it, but women are physically sensitive, so if a guy gives her a seat out of respect, she should take it and sit down while expressing gratitude.

Since men and women are distinct and both deserve their rights, there is actually no comparison between their levels of empowerment. People believe that if women receive education and gain independence, they will become brave, self-centred, and courageous.

People used to oppose women’s empowerment and education because they believed that educated women would not cook for them or that a working woman could not be a housewife. This meant that women who did not receive an education would not be able to work or be independent.

Women make up half of Pakistan’s population. However, males labour far more than women do, which makes it impossible for Pakistan’s economy to function efficiently. Indeed, women’s empowerment is crucial, particularly in Pakistan.
Women are not empowered if they become independent and, rather than moving on in life, continue to suffer relative to their past. When a woman achieves independence, advances in her life, lives her life as a woman should, and is granted all of her rights, she is really empowered. This is true empowerment for women.

Feelings are linked to empowerment as well; a woman should feel powerful. However, this is not empowerment if a woman feels empowered but is actually not autonomous and unable to fully exercise her rights.

A woman who is subjected to torture has accepted her fate and is deprived of the ability to live her life as she pleases. For a culture where women believe that all of these things are their destiny, this is a profoundly depressing position. Awareness of women’s empowerment should be raised by society.

Being financially independent or earning money is not the sole aspect of women’s empowerment. Knowing her abilities and using them effectively are key components of true women’s empowerment. If a woman wants to work or live in her home, she should be free to make her own decisions without external pressure.

We cannot ignore the reality that women in Pakistan lack full autonomy, face harassment at work, and do not receive the same compensation as males. Regardless of their merit, girls will not receive the same compensation as males in Pakistan’s largest corporations.

They must also deal with the issues of marital violence, physical violence, and emotional violence. When considering this issue from a global perspective, Pakistan’s circumstances are dire. Women need to be taught that obtaining their rights is not a favour; rather, it is their right.

The man should be taught that he must share his sister’s, mother’s, wife’s, and daughter’s strengths. Women nowadays are still on their path to progress, but they are also under too much stress.

In businesses, women are positioned in very marginalised roles rather than in positions of decision-making authority. By taking care of three things, we can get over this problem.

First, families can empower women by teaching their boys about it. Teaching family women about their rights and strengths on an individual basis is the second step. Daughters should be educated by their parents in the same manner as sons.
Women should therefore be treated similarly to males and given the same rights to voice their opinions in the community. Thirdly, women should be able to participate in all state-level choices, including political and economic issues.

The viral footage showcases the design journey of the trophy, led by renowned English silversmith Thomas Lyte.

It highlights the detailed stages of production and the precision required to craft one of the most coveted prizes in cricket.

Lyte described the task as both a privilege and a demanding challenge, noting the pressure that comes with producing a trophy of global significance.

As excitement builds around the world, Pakistan is preparing to host its first major ICC event in nearly three decades.

The country last co-hosted the 1996 Cricket World Cup, with Lahore staging the final where Sri Lanka emerged victorious.

The Champions Trophy 2025 kicks off tomorrow, with Pakistan taking on New Zealand in the tournament opener in Karachi.

The competition features eight teams and runs from February 19 to March 9 across Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Dubai.

PCB Clarifies Absence of Indian Flag at Karachi Stadium Ahead of Champions Trophy 2025

0

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has addressed concerns over the absence of Indian national flag at the National Stadium Karachi.

Footage circulating on social media showed the flags of all participating nations, with the flag of India notably missing.

This triggered speculation suggesting a possible political motive, given the refusal of India to play its matches in Pakistan.

However, the PCB has dismissed such claims, attributing the situation to event regulations set by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

As per ICC guidelines, only four flags will be raised on match days which include, the flag of Pakistan and ICC and the two teams involved in that fixture.

Since India will play its games at a neutral venue outside Pakistan, its flag will not be seen at any stadium in Karachi, Lahore, or Rawalpindi.

The Champions Trophy begins tomorrow with hosts Pakistan facing New Zealand in Karachi. India is placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.

Pakistan’s Name Appears on Indian Cricket Jersey for First Time

0

For the first time, “Pakistan” has appeared on the cricket jersey of India, sparking fan debate ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the new kit for the tournament, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan.

The design features the official logo, including the the name of the host, as per the standard guidelines of ICC .

Photos of Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya on new blue jersey have quickly spread on social media.

However, it is the word “Pakistan” on their chests that has drawn the most attention.

A section of Indian supporters voiced their frustration online, calling the jersey “unacceptable,” while others defended it as a routine ICC requirement.

The controversy underscores the strained cricketing ties between the two, with bilateral matches halted for over a decade.

However, global tournaments continue to bring the teams together on neutral and host venues, keeping their rivalry alive on the field.

Expected Date of 1st Ramadan in Saudi Arabia Revealed

0

The first day of Ramadan in the Hijri calendar is likely to fall on March 1 this year, according to the Jeddah Astronomical Society.

Society President Majed Abu Zahra noted that the alignment is a rare occurrence, reflecting the intricacies of lunar and solar calendar systems.

The Hijri calendar follows the phases of the moon, resulting in a year of either 354 or 355 days.

In contrast, the Gregorian calendar, widely used internationally, is solar-based and spans 365 days, or 366 in a leap year.

Abu Zahra explained that the difference causes the Hijri year to shift roughly 10 to 12 days earlier each year when compared to the Gregorian calendar.

Over a span of about 33 years, this gradual shift brings Islamic months through every season.

Such alignments, like the anticipated coincidence of Ramadan 1, 1446, and March 1, are uncommon.

Abu Zahra described them as a testament to the precision in the movements of celestial bodies.

He noted that the event reflects the coexistence of timekeeping systems and the connection between human calendars and the earth-moon rhythms.

BCCI Allows Indian Players’ Families for One Match at Champions Trophy 2025

0

The Indian cricket team has arrived in Dubai to begin preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, starting tomorrow.

The arrival of team follows a challenging tour of Australia, where India suffered a 3-1 series defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The loss triggered scrutiny back home, prompting the BCCI to introduce a ten-point policy aimed at improving team management.

The BCCI initially barred families of players from traveling for the event but is reportedly reconsidering the rule.

Discussions are ongoing, and players may be allowed to have family members attend one match, provided they seek prior approval.

India will play all their matches in Dubai under a ‘hybrid model’ agreed upon by the BCCI, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and ICC.

This arrangement ensures the Men in Blue will remain in the UAE regardless of their progress, unlike other teams.

The tournament opens with hosts Pakistan facing New Zealand at the National Cricket Stadium in Karachi.

India will open against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by a high-profile clash with Pakistan on February 23 in Dubai.

Will Binance List Pi Coin? Separating Hype from Reality

0

As the Pi Network mainnet launch date approaches, speculation is growing about whether Binance will list Pi Coin. The Pi Network cryptocurrency has attracted a massive global community, but its official market entry remains uncertain.

Since its inception, Pi Network has promised a decentralized, user-friendly blockchain. However, without an official Pi Network blockchain fully launched, major exchanges like Binance and OKX have yet to list Pi Coin for trading. Despite this, many users are eager to know the Pi Coin price and how it will perform once it enters open trading.

Current Pi Coin Price & Speculation:

As of now, the Pi Network price varies across informal trading platforms, with some speculative rates seen in peer-to-peer exchanges. Many users frequently search for:

  1. Pi Network price in India
  2. Pi Network price in Pakistan
  3. Pi Network price in Dollar

However, these prices are not officially recognized until the Pi Network cryptocurrency price is determined after a full-fledged exchange listing.

When Will Binance List Pi Coin?

While Binance has not officially confirmed the Pi Network listing, crypto analysts believe that if the Pi Network mainnet launch successfully rolls out with strong security and compliance measures, top-tier exchanges may consider listing Pi Coin.

For now, potential traders and Pi holders must wait for the Pi Network launch date and official announcements from major crypto exchanges. Currently, Pi cannot be withdrawn or traded on most exchanges. Once listed on platforms like OKX or Binance, users may be able to exchange their Pi cryptocurrency for other assets. However, until the Pi Network mainnet launch is fully completed, selling options remain limited.

Crypto experts suggest that Pi Network’s price today is speculative and may see significant fluctuations upon listing. Predictions vary widely, with some expecting a strong debut, while others remain cautious about its long-term viability.

The Pi Network cryptocurrency news is filled with excitement, but investors should remain cautious. While a Binance listing for Pi Coin would be a significant milestone, it is crucial to rely on official sources rather than speculation.

Tragic Murder of Mustafa Amir Sparks Controversy

0

Mustafa Amir was kidnapped and killed by his friends. Police found evidence, but the case saw delays, judicial concerns, and social media-driven action.

23-year-old Mustafa Amir was kidnapped and brutally killed by his friends Armaghan and Sheraz on January 6. Later, Armaghan retaliated by shooting at police when they stormed his home.

From them, police gathered illicit firearms. Bloodstains on the carpet and the phone of the abducted and killed youngster Mustafa Amir were also discovered at Armaghan’s home. Mustafa was loaded into Armaghan’s automobile and driven to Hab, a region of Balochistan, with his companion Sheraz.

The automobile containing Mustafa’s body was then set on fire there, and Mustafa passed away. The news is really depressing. All parents should learn from this situation that they should not only watch over their children but also take care of their company.

What kind of individuals are his pals? At the beginning of the video message, Mustafa’s mother claimed that SSP Ali Hassan was not paying attention to her grievances over her son’s disappearance. She declared that she will bring a formal complaint against SSP Ali Hassan.

Furthermore, Mustafa’s mother has stated that all of this occurred as a result of a girl named Martha Shahid, who was Mustafa’s lover. For the previous couple years, they were together. Martha cheated on Mustafa several times, according to his mother, and they both took narcotics. She further claimed that Martha had threatened Mustafa’s life via Armaghan. Additionally, Armaghan and Martha Shahid were romantically involved.

She said that Martha Shahid should be detained by the police since she was also implicated in this crime. When it comes to Martha Shahid, she travelled abroad on January 12th, but the police are attempting to contact her again through Interpol. When it comes to Armaghan, Sheraz discloses that he is in police prison, as is his companion, who was also implicated in this crime.
However, a number of concerns come up, such as why Mustafa’s mother did not notify the police if she was previously aware of everything pertaining to Martha and Armaghan. The DNA found in Mustafa’s deceased corpse matches that of his mother. and was buried by volunteers from the Eidi community.

The deceased will be exhumed for a postmortem upon court orders. In a different video message, Mustafa’s mother stated that she is awaiting justice from the Sindh government and police after the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) revealed a lot of information regarding Mustafa’s death. but, when it comes to the steps taken by the police and courts in this instance, they were not very serious; but, following the social media coverage, the police and legal system have taken action.

The hearing on the police demand to remand Armaghan from court is scheduled on Monday, February 16. Despite this, the court has granted the Sheraz police authority to be placed under remand for six days. Additionally, Iftekhar, the investigating officer, and SHO Zulfiqar of the Darakhshaan police station have been suspended for their non-serious attitude.

It is startling that rather of remanding Armaghan, the judge in the counterterrorism court, Zakir Hussain, took action against the police. Police have appealed this decision in the Sindh High Court.

Additionally, the blood samples found in Armaghan’s home match those of Mustafa’s mother, and police have appealed exhumation. An actual instance of this was when Armaghan opened fire on police during a raid on his home. The DSP and a few of his police colleagues get injuries. Including the automobile without a number plate, 50-plus laptops have been confiscated from Armaghan’s residence, which were used for scamming.
CM SindhHowever, it is distressing to learn that Judge Zakir Hussain, aware of all these circumstances, has decided to place Armaghan on judicial remand rather than body remand for inquiry. CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah was shocked by this and stated that judges ought to be held accountable for similar cases.

What’s more startling is how Armaghan’s father reacted in court when he attempted to enter the judge’s chamber and intimidate cops by claiming to be an American. This event is another illustration of how young, wealthy males in Karachi have turned into a serious threat to the public, and we will now have to wait and watch what the police do in this instance. These wealthy individuals also attempt to stifle the government with their financial might.

The Men in Green have the upper hand over the opposition in the Champions Trophy, as they defeated the Virat Kohli-led India in the final of the 2017 edition.

Haris Rauf Speaks Out on Injury Ahead of Champions Trophy

0

Pakistani fast bowler, Haris Rauf, has expressed optimism about his fitness as preparations continue for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The marquee event is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, with the hosts taking on New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Rauf resumed training after a lower chest wall sprain in opening match of the tri-nation series with New Zealand and South Africa.

The injury had prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board to call up left-arm pacer Akif Javed as a replacement for the remainder of the series.

Speaking to the media, Rauf conveyed his satisfaction with his recovery, indicating that he was not experiencing any pain.

The right-arm fast bowler added that he had practiced for two days and bowled without discomfort.

However, he stressed that the final decision regarding his participation in the event opener against New Zealand would be made by the management.

Rauf also commented on bowling strategy, explaining that their unit was not reliant solely on a single specialist spinner.

He noted that all-rounders Khushdil Shah and Agha Salman could also contribute with spin, depending on match conditions.

The pacer bowled alongside fellow seamers Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain during the session, suggesting progress in his recovery.

Champions Trophy marks Pakistan’s cricket revival – Former Captains

0

Former players Inzamam-ul-Haq, Aamer Sohail, and Misbah-ul-Haq view the tournament’s return to Pakistan as a renewal after years of isolation from international cricket.

Inzamam noted that discussions about the event had become a part of everyday life across the country, with conversations taking place in homes, schools, and markets.

The significance of event is amplified by the return of Pakistan as host after a long absence since the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore.

The attack resulted in Pakistan playing home fixtures in the UAE for several years, with visiting teams only gradually resuming tours from 2018 onwards.

Inzamam remarked that those years had felt like a punishment, causing the nation’s cricket to suffer.

Misbah, who led Pakistan to notable successes during his tenure as Test captain, underlined the impact of live international cricket on aspiring players and supporters.

He suggested that a lack of such experiences had disrupted the natural growth of cricket in the country.

Aamer Sohail, reflecting on a recent match against South Africa where Pakistan achieved a record run chase, highlighted the vibrant atmosphere created by both players and spectators.

He viewed this interaction as a positive sign for the upcoming tournament.

He also humorously suggested that selectors from both Pakistan and England could reach out to him if they needed a player.

The mayor hoped that Babar Azam would return to top form, while acknowledging that Australia and South Africa posed strong competition.

Reflecting on the absence of international teams in Pakistan over recent years, Khan hoped the event would be a success, boosting cricket in the country.

His comments followed his attendance at a British Asian Trust event supporting South Asian development.

As many as 47 Pakistani nationals were deported in a single day from Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, and other countries over alleged illegal activities.

Sources say Saudi Arabia deported six Pakistanis for drug trafficking, while Azerbaijan expelled four, declaring them “unwelcome.”

The details further show that deportations involved four individuals who attempted unlawful entry into Malaysia and Iraq.

Pakistani nationals were also returned from Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, bringing the total number of deportees to 47.

Others among those offloaded were travellers intending to work in Iraq, Malaysia, Iran, and other countries.

Two passengers scheduled to fly to the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan were also prevented from boarding.

Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) detained five passengers returning from Mauritania at the same airport.

The individuals, hailing from Hafizabad, Gujranwala, and Swat, disclosed that agents had charged them between Rs2.5 million and Rs3.5 million for illegal transit to Europe.

They had travelled through Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar before reaching Mauritania, but opted to return after refusing a hazardous sea journey to Europe.

4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and AJK—No Damage Reported

0

If you’ve ever felt the ground tremble beneath your feet, you know the eerie mix of fear and awe that comes with it. One second, you’re going about your day—maybe scrolling your phone, sipping chai, or chatting with friends—and the next, everything around you feels… unstable. It’s a strange reminder, isn’t it? That beneath all our daily chaos, the earth itself has its own unpredictable rhythm.

Last Saturday night, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby areas got one of those unsettling reminders. A 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook the region, with tremors stretching as far as Murree and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), including Balouch and Dhirkot.

Thankfully, no casualties or damage were reported—just a collective moment of heart-skipping uncertainty. But let’s break this down. What exactly happened, and why does it matter?

The Science Beneath the Shake

Pakistan Earthquake Prediction
Pakistan Earthquake Prediction

The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Seismological Centre reported that the quake’s epicentre was just 8 kilometers southeast of Rawalpindi. That’s practically in the backyard for many of us. And the depth? A mere 17 kilometers underground.

To put that into perspective, the deeper an earthquake, the less intense the shaking tends to feel on the surface. But at 17 kilometers, this was shallow enough to make its presence known loud and clear.

Have you ever wondered why earthquakes seem to visit Pakistan so often? It’s all about tectonic plates. Picture the earth’s crust as a massive jigsaw puzzle, with pieces constantly pushing, pulling, and grinding against each other.

Pakistan sits right on the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian plates [Brainly.in], a hotspot for seismic activity. It’s like living next to a particularly restless neighbor—you never know when they’ll decide to rearrange the furniture.

Just last November, a 5.3 magnitude quake rattled Islamabad and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Its epicentre was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, a well-known seismic zone.

These frequent tremors are a stark reminder that we live in a geologically active region, one that demands our respect and preparation.

When I heard about Saturday’s quake, I immediately thought back to the 2005 earthquake that devastated parts of Pakistan and AJK.

I was much younger then, but the memories are vivid. The news reports, the rescue efforts, the stories of loss and resilience—they left a mark.

So, even though Saturday’s tremor was mild by comparison, it brought a familiar unease. I texted a friend in Islamabad to check in, and her response summed it up perfectly: “No damage, just shook the nerves a bit.”

Earthquakes
Earthquakes

That’s the thing about earthquakes—they don’t just rattle buildings; they rattle us, reminding us how fragile our sense of stability can be.

And it’s not just about the momentary fear. For many, even a small quake can trigger memories of past disasters. It’s a shared vulnerability that connects us, whether we’re in the capital city or a remote village in AJK.

Here’s the truth: earthquakes aren’t going away. But we can control how we respond to them. In recent years, there’s been a growing emphasis on disaster preparedness in Pakistan, from earthquake-resistant building codes to public awareness campaigns.

But let’s be honest—how many of us have an emergency kit at home? Or even know what to do if a quake hits while we’re asleep?

It’s something we need to think about. Because while Saturday’s quake spared us from damage, we can’t always count on luck.

On a global scale, technology is playing a bigger role in earthquake preparedness. Apps that provide early warnings, like Japan’s earthquake alert system, are becoming more common.

In fact, some tech enthusiasts in Pakistan are working on similar initiatives, combining local data with AI to predict and notify. It’s a fascinating trend, and one that gives me hope for a safer future.

Despite the risks, let’s take a moment to be grateful for what didn’t happen on Saturday. No homes collapsed. No lives were lost. And while the tremors reminded us of our vulnerability, they also reminded us of our resilience.

So, what’s next?

Let’s talk about it. How prepared do you feel for an earthquake? Do you know the basics—like standing under a sturdy table or staying away from windows? Or does the idea of preparing feel overwhelming? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Let’s start a conversation about how we can better equip ourselves and our communities.

Reviving Culture: Lahore’s Horse and Cattle Show Returns After 30 Years with Global Participation

0

Lahore’s Horse and Cattle Show returned after 30 years, featuring international teams and cultural performances. Led by CM Maryam Nawaz, it revived heritage, entertained the public, and strengthened ties.

The colorful horse and cattle show in Lahore attracts the attention of many people. People came from different places and came to Fortress Stadium to see the jawline throw. The horse and cattle show were happening in many other areas, including Lahore.

People really enjoyed the performances. After thirty years, for the first time, seventy teams from other countries are part of this horse and cattle show. Which includes jawline throw teams of Qatar, Norway, Oman, Misar, South Africa, and the USA.

International players also played very well in the horse and cattle show. After getting so much reception and good arrangements, the teams of other countries announced they would participate in the horse and cattle show in the future as well.

South Asian history places a great deal of significance on horse and cattle fairs. Punjabi culture is illuminated via fairs. In essence, they are the cause of leisure. Through these fairs, people learn about their culture and establish a connection with their heritage.

In addition to recreating each, these fairs really put a stop to social tension. It need to be related to Punjabi culture. Horses of all hues and types entered this horse and cattle exhibition since horses used to hold great social importance.

It led to the development of cordial relations among all the provinces. These programs represent our culture. People experienced catharsis as a result. They also enjoy their life as a result. People in Pakistan currently lack access to amusement because of the dire economic situation.

However, by implementing such projects as the horse and cattle show, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has not only preserved Pakistani culture but also given it a sense of worth. She deserves praise for her excellent initiative.

She revived Pakistan’s moribund culture after thirty years. The desire to celebrate Pakistani culture among Pakistanis is something she is aware of. People from all around the nation took part in the program and found it entertaining.

Maryam Nawaz, the chief minister of Punjab, deserves all the accolades for her effort. People valued their country, Pakistan, by participating in the horse and cattle show with their horses and animals, and this initiative should be supported.

The concern here is whether Punjab will continue to have a fair culture. Will this be tolerated by the government? Since the government refused to support this type of fair following the terrorist attacks in 2005 and 2006, this project would have enormous diplomatic significance if the government had continued to support these fairs as it had before to 2005.

For this reason, the government should support those who attended these fairs and help others in their communities host similar events in the future.Additionally, educational establishments must to investigate these incidents and Pakistani culture in order to inform the public. These fairs must to be covered in the social science curriculum so that people worldwide are aware of them.

ECB Shares Update on Pakistani Players in The Hundred Tournament

0

Pakistani cricketers are not expected to face participation hurdles in The Hundred, despite the increasing involvement of IPL, ECB said.

Pakistani players have been absent from other IPL-affiliated leagues such as SA20, ILT20, and Major League Cricket (MLC).

However, they have regularly competed in The Hundred, which the ECB has sought to promote as a competition featuring the top players.

The ECB does not expect IPL franchise investments in The Hundred to change the stance of India on allowing its male cricketers to participate.

The ECB recently confirmed that it had secured agreements with eight private investors, valuing the tournament at over £975 million.

The cricket authority in England and Wales further added that these investors are set to enter talks with host counties over the coming weeks.

The investors include RPSG Group, Sun TV Network, Reliance Industries, and GMR Group, who have aligned with teams such as Manchester Originals and Oval Invincibles.

It is believed that their involvement could enhance broadcast value in India, though BCCI has not altered its policy barring active male players from overseas leagues.

ECB Chief Richard Gould said Indian player participation was not a factor in expansion and affirmed Pakistani cricketers remain welcome.

Officials suggested that collaboration with IPL owners could help prevent future scheduling clashes with global T20 competitions.

When Looms Fall Silent: Pakistan’s Traditional Weavers Face Extinction in the Age of Mass Production

0

Through the glass doors of a university hall in Lahore, the rhythmic clatter of a wooden loom echoes against modern architecture. Inside, a solitary artisan works at his craft, his hands moving with practiced precision across the loom’s wooden shaft – a scene that stands in stark contrast to Pakistan’s industrial textile sector, which accounts for 60% of the country’s exports and employs 40% of its industrial labor force.

This weaver, working within the confines of an academic institution, represents one of the diminishing threads in Pakistan’s rich textile heritage. According to a 2023 survey by the Pakistan Handicrafts Association, the number of traditional weavers in Punjab has declined by 67% over the past two decades, with fewer than 2,000 full-time practitioners remaining.

Like many traditional crafts in the region – from ralli quilting in Sindh to handloom weaving in Punjab – these ancestral skills face mounting pressures from industrialization and changing consumer preferences. The mechanization of textile production, which can produce fabric at nearly 40 times the speed of traditional methods, has pushed many artisans to abandon their craft. A handloom weaver typically produces 2-3 meters of fabric per day, while modern power looms can generate up to 80 meters in the same timeframe.

“These traditional crafts are more than just means of producing textiles,” says a textile arts researcher. “They represent centuries of cultural knowledge passed down through generations. A single traditional weaving pattern can contain over 300 distinct motifs, each with its own cultural significance.”

The economic realities are stark. While Pakistan’s textile industry generated $19.3 billion in exports in 2023, traditional weavers often earn less than $100 per month. In comparison, even entry-level factory workers in the industrial textile sector earn approximately $70-85 monthly. The disparity has led to a dramatic decline in the number of young people pursuing traditional crafts – a 2022 study by the Pakistan Institute of Traditional Arts found that only 8% of artisans are under the age of 30.

Despite these challenges, some initiatives offer hope. The Indus Heritage Trust has documented over 400 traditional weaving patterns and techniques since 2018, creating a digital archive for future generations. Meanwhile, select boutique fashion houses in urban centers have begun incorporating traditional weaving techniques into contemporary designs, offering prices up to five times higher than standard market rates for handwoven textiles.

Babar Azam Asks Fans to Stop Calling Him ‘King’

0

Former captain, Babar Azam has requested fans to stop referring to him as “king,” stating that he does not view himself as one yet.

The remarks of the right-hander came after the Men in Green chased down a record breaking total against South Africa in the tri-nation series.

Babar reflected on his performance, mentioning that his primary aim is to score runs, although he admitted to struggling with finishing matches.

He acknowledged the efforts of his teammates, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, crediting their contributions for boosting the confidence.

Reiterating his stance, Babar emphasized that he does not consider himself a “king” and urged fans to avoid using the title for him.

The Lahore-born cricketer explained that opening the batting is a new role he has accepted to meet the needs of the national side in marquee event.

Babar noted that once an innings progresses, he gains a better understanding of the conditions but admitted he had not been able to convert starts into big scores recently.

He shared that he often speaks to himself about overcoming challenges, focusing on staying in the present.

The batter stressed that past performances are irrelevant, adding that every day brings new plans and goals, while successful run chases significantly lift the team’s morale.

BCCI Implements Strict Travel Policy for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

0

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a revised travel policy set to take effect during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

As per the guidelines, Indian players will not be permitted to have their families accompany them throughout the tournament, which starts on February 15.

This decision aligns with the broader effort of the cricket authority in India to enhance team focus and discipline during shorter tours.

India will start their campaign in Dubai on February 20 against Bangladesh, followed by a marquee clash with Pakistan on February 23.

India will face New Zealand in their final group match on March 2, with their games in Dubai, while other teams play across venues in Pakistan.

A senior BCCI official while stated on the developement said that families are only allowed on tours exceeding 45 days, with a two-week limit.

As the Champions Trophy is a three-week event, families will not be part of the travel plans.

This policy shift comes after concerns over the team cohesion during the recent tour of the Men in Blue to Australia for the red-ball series.

The BCCI is also tightening travel protocols and limiting personal staff access to players in a bid to strengthen team discipline.
