Former captain, Babar Azam has requested fans to stop referring to him as “king,” stating that he does not view himself as one yet.
The remarks of the right-hander came after the Men in Green chased down a record breaking total against South Africa in the tri-nation series.
Babar reflected on his performance, mentioning that his primary aim is to score runs, although he admitted to struggling with finishing matches.
He acknowledged the efforts of his teammates, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, crediting their contributions for boosting the confidence.
Reiterating his stance, Babar emphasized that he does not consider himself a “king” and urged fans to avoid using the title for him.
The Lahore-born cricketer explained that opening the batting is a new role he has accepted to meet the needs of the national side in marquee event.
Babar noted that once an innings progresses, he gains a better understanding of the conditions but admitted he had not been able to convert starts into big scores recently.
He shared that he often speaks to himself about overcoming challenges, focusing on staying in the present.
The batter stressed that past performances are irrelevant, adding that every day brings new plans and goals, while successful run chases significantly lift the team’s morale.
