Shaheen Afridi, Saud Shakeel, and Kamran Ghulam have been penalised by the ICC for disciplinary breaches during an ODI against South Africa.

Pakistan secured a six-wicket victory, powered by centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, earning a place in the final against New Zealand.

However, the win in crucial encounter was marred by on-field tensions during the first innings of the game

In the 28th over, the left-arm pacer obstructed South African batter Matthew Breetzke, causing physical contact and a verbal exchange.

Afridi was fined 25 percent of his match fee for violating Article 2.12 of the ICC Code, which covers inappropriate physical contact during a match.

Additionally, Saud Shakeel and substitute Kamran Ghulam were penalised for their actions following the run-out of Temba Bavuma in the 29th over.

Their celebratory conduct, deemed provocative, resulted in a 10 percent match fee deduction under Article 2.5.

All three players received a demerit point but had no prior offences within the last two years. The sanctions were accepted by the players.

Pakistan to Roll Out 5G by Mid-Year Amid Financial Hurdles

0

The government aims to introduce 5G services in Pakistan by mid-2025, according to Parliamentary Secretary for IT Sabreen Ghori.

Speaking in the National Assembly, she also assured lawmakers that internet speed would improve across the country in the coming months.

Addressing concerns over connectivity issues, Ghori acknowledged that multiple factors contribute to slow internet speeds.

Lawmakers, including Agha Rafiullah, raised concerns about inconsistent internet performance, with users often struggling to access basic services.

Shagufta Jumani echoed similar sentiments, referring to Bilawal Bhutto’s remarks questioning the frequent disruptions in internet services.

However, the rollout of 5G comes with significant challenges. A 2024 report by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) highlighted financial obstacles in the transition.

While broadband penetration is increasing, investment in the telecom sector has fallen sharply from $1.6 billion in 2021–22 to $765 million in 2023–24.

The PTA report further pointed out that telecom operators may hesitate due to the substantial capital investment required for 5G infrastructure.

With declining average revenue per user in dollar terms, the financial burden of 5G adoption remains a key concern for the industry.

Injury Crisis Hits Champions Trophy 2025 as Key Players Ruled Out

0

Several top cricketers have been ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 due to injuries, dealing a major blow to their respective teams.

Pakistani opener Saim Ayub, who recently fractured his right ankle during the South Africa tour, has been sidelined and is expected to remain out for over a month.

Team Australia has been hit hard, with Pat Cummins (ankle), Josh Hazlewood (side and calf), and Mitchell Marsh (back) all unavailable.

Additionally, experienced fast bowler, Mitchell Starc, has opted out due to personal reasons, further weakening the Kangaroos’ squad.

South Africa’s Anrich Nortje is also out with a back injury and has been replaced by Corbin Bosch, while Gerald Coetzee has been sidelined due to a groin issue.

Afghanistan’s AM Ghazanfar is out with a fractured vertebra, while England’s Jacob Bethell, sidelined by a hamstring injury, has been replaced by Tom Banton.

India, too, faces a setback, as pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out due to a lower back injury sustained in the final Test against Australia in Sydney last month.

With multiple teams facing injury concerns, the dynamics of the marquee tournament could shift significantly.

NEPRA to Review Petition for Electricity Tariff Reduction

0

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), is set to hear a petition that could lead to a decrease in tariffs, offering potential relief to consumers.

Power distribution companies have requested a reduction of Rs 52.12 billion under the second quarterly adjustment for the current fiscal year.

The adjustment includes Rs 50.66 billion in capacity charges, Rs 2.66 billion in transmission and distribution losses, and Rs 2.69 billion in operation and maintenance costs.

If the proposal approved, the revised tariff will take effect between October and December 2024, reflecting in consumer electricity bills.

The electricity regulator will review the proposal and forward its decision to the federal government for final approval.

Last month, NEPRA had announced a minor increase of 20 paise per unit in electricity rates as part of the previous quarterly adjustment.

The hike, applicable for December 2024, placed an additional financial burden of Rs 1.18 billion on the already burdened consumers .

However, lifeline and prepaid electricity users, as well as those benefiting from the winter package, were exempted from the increase.

The upcoming decision on tariff reduction could ease financial pressure on households and businesses already grappling with high energy costs.

Ensuring the stadium meets international standards remains a priority, with the event expected to pave the way for more competitive matches in the city.

ICC Imposes Five-Year Ban on Renowned Bangladeshi Cricketer

0

Bangladesh cricketer, Shohely Akhter, has been banned from all cricket for five years due to corruption charges, the International Cricket Council (ICC), said.

The governing body stated that the 36-year-old spinner had admitted to breaching five provisions of its anti-corruption code.

Shohely offered a teammate two million takas ($16,465) to get out hit wicket in a 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup match against Australia.

According to the ICC, right-arm off break bowler made the approach through a series of voice notes sent via Facebook Messenger.

The player she contacted, however, rejected the offer and reported the matter to the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of ICC, providing evidence in the form of the recorded messages.

Shohely Akhter, who last represented Bangladesh in 2022, was not part of the squad for the 2023 tournament in South Africa.

Shohely reportedly admitted to sending the messages but claimed that her intention was to demonstrate that team members were not involved in match-fixing.

The ICC stated that Akhter had cooperated with the investigation, and after considering all circumstances, a five-year ban was deemed appropriate.

Australia Receives Yet Another Blow Ahead of Champions Trophy

0

Preparations of team Australia for the Champions Trophy have suffered another setback as fast bowler Mitchell Starc has withdrawn from the squad due to personal reasons.

The absence of  Starc adds to the growing list of unavailable players, with Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Marsh already ruled out due to injuries.

Starc, who had been dealing with discomfort during the recent Test series against Sri Lanka, was expected to play a key role in the campaign for Australia.

While the specifics behind his withdrawal remain undisclosed, the impact on the bowling attack of Australia is significant.

Cricket Australia backs his decision, with chief selector George Bailey acknowledging his commitment while viewing his absence as a chance for others to step up.

As per the details, with both Cummins and Marsh sidelined, experienced player, Steve Smith has been named captain for the tournament.

The squad has undergone a major reshuffle, with Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Spencer Johnson, and Tanveer Sangha drafted in.

The team will play two ODIs against Sri Lanka before beginning their Champions Trophy campaign against England on 22 February.

Super.com Evolves From Travel Platform to Financial Services App

0

Since rebranding from Snapcommerce in October 2022, Super.com has expanded its services beyond its original focus on travel bookings to include broader financial offerings, according to company statements and public announcements.

The company, founded in 2016 as Snaptravel, initially specialized in hotel bookings through messaging platforms. The acquisition of the Super.com domain name coincided with the company’s strategic shift toward providing additional financial services, including cashback programs and a branded payment card.

“We wanted a name that was simple, memorable, and resonated with our vision of helping people save across every aspect of their lives,” said Hussein Fazal, the company’s co-founder, in a statement announcing the rebranding.

The platform now offers several services beyond its original travel focus. Users can book travel accommodations, earn cashback on purchases, and access financial tools including the Super.com Card. However, independent analysts note that the company faces significant competition in both the travel and financial services sectors.

Super Hero 04

The transition reflects broader industry trends, as several technology companies have expanded from specialized services into more comprehensive financial platforms. This shift comes as consumers increasingly seek integrated solutions for travel, shopping, and personal finance management.

While Super.com presents its rebranding as part of a natural evolution, the move also follows industry-wide challenges in the travel sector during recent years.

The platform currently provides three main services:

  1. Travel booking services for hotels, flights, and vacation packages
  2. Shopping rewards and cashback programs
  3. Financial tools, including a branded payment card

Travel Services: Beyond Traditional Booking

Super Hero 01

Super.com’s travel platform operates through partnerships with various hotel chains and airlines, according to company documentation. The system analyzes pricing data across multiple providers to identify rate fluctuations. Internal company data suggests the platform processes thousands of travel bookings monthly, though specific numbers remain private.

The booking interface differs from traditional online travel agencies by incorporating messaging technology. While companies like Expedia and Booking.com rely primarily on website interactions, Super.com maintains its original SMS and messaging app integration, a holdover from its Snaptravel days.

Industry analysts note that this approach faces both opportunities and challenges. “The messaging-first strategy created a unique market position,” says travel industry analyst. “However, it’s operating in an increasingly crowded space dominated by established players.”

Rewards Program Structure

The company’s rewards system functions through a multi-tier approach:

  • Base cashback rates typically range from 1% to 5% on purchases
  • Premium tier members may access higher rates, though qualification criteria aren’t publicly disclosed
  • Partner merchants offer additional bonus rates during promotional periods

Financial services experts point out that these rates align with industry standards. “The rewards structure mirrors what we’re seeing across the fintech sector,” notes senior analyst. “The differentiator lies in the integration with travel services.”

Banking and Financial Tools

The Super.com Card, launched in partnership with an undisclosed banking institution, represents the company’s entry into traditional financial services. The card offers:

  • Credit-building features for qualifying users
  • Integration with the platform’s rewards system
  • Travel-specific perks including no foreign transaction fees

Market Position and Competition

Data from financial research firm Pitchbook indicates Super.com operates in a competitive landscape:

  • Travel booking market: Dominated by established players with larger user bases
  • Rewards space: Contested by both traditional credit cards and fintech startups
  • Banking services: Facing competition from neobanks and traditional institutions

Consumer Response

While Super.com reports user growth, independent verification remains limited. The company’s App Store ratings average 4.2 stars, based on publicly available data.

Future Trajectory

The platform’s expansion reflects broader industry trends toward service consolidation. Recent McKinsey research suggests 60% of consumers prefer integrated financial services platforms, though success in this space requires significant technological investment and regulatory compliance.

As Super.com continues its evolution, market observers note that its ability to maintain service quality across multiple verticals while managing regulatory requirements will likely determine its long-term viability in the competitive fintech landscape.

Company representatives state that these offerings align with their goal of providing comprehensive savings opportunities for users.

PECA Act: Cybersecurity Measure or Tool for Suppression?

0

The PECA Act aims to combat cybercrimes in Pakistan but faces criticism for restricting free speech, with concerns over its use as a tool for political suppression.

The Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) is a law in Pakistan implemented in 2016 to battle cybercrimes. It encompasses crimes such as identity theft, online harassment, cyber terrorism, and hacking. The act gives officials the power to block or remove illegal online content and pursue criminals.

Nevertheless, it has been blamed for probable misapplication, mainly regarding free speech and confidentiality issues.

The PECA Act was originally attempted to be implemented in 2016 by former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PTI opposed it; however, they ultimately came to embrace it and even began to reform it. With the PECA Ordinance 2022, the PTI administration strengthened the PECA Act during its 2018-2022 rule.

When the PTI became the opposition, this legislation was eventually utilised against them, hence the ordinance backfired. The National Assembly has now passed this measure. Is the PECA Act necessary given Pakistan’s current circumstances?

Does there exist a situation where news is generated in such a mechanical manner to promote the populace, and people are subjected to abuse and character assassination on social media? Under such conditions, is the PECA Act still necessary today? The PECA statute is opposed by Pakistani writers, authors, and publishers.

Why did well-educated individuals who oppose electronic harassment and crimes—and who have also experienced abuse on social media—still oppose the PECA act? They contend that the PECA statute is stifling free speech and is not necessary in the modern world. Implementing the PECA Act is the same as restricting people’s freedom of expression in democracies.

In addition, legal action will be taken against anyone who write or speak out against the administration, regardless of whether they are separating facts, in order to allow the government to prolong their rule as long as possible. The goal of implementing such acts—like social media—is to confine individuals to narrow ways of thinking.

Prior to social media, people lacked critical thinking skills and had little historical knowledge, but today they do. In a democratic nation, raising knowledge is a good thing, but enslaving people by enacting laws like PECA is a bad idea.
Ayub Khan, who had claimed that the press was a terrible thing, did the same thing when he put the Press and Publication Act into effect. The fact that Ayub Khan used to claim that these media outlets were critical of everything and that this is how people learnt about every little positive or negative feature of anything was one of the primary causes of his anxiety. The Press and Publication Act’s implementation seriously harmed democracy. The reason tyrants throughout the world fear free speech is because of this.

In his piece from a few days earlier, Hamid Meer claimed that Pakistan is under invisible martial law. Where is our nation headed if that is the case? What are the future prospects for Pakistan? Rather than the PECA legislation, our nation needs social welfare.

India to Skip Warm-up Matches Before ICC Champions Trophy 2025

0

India will head into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 without playing any warm-up matches, Indian media reported on Monday.

According to reports, the team will leave for Dubai on February 15 after concluding their home series against England.

India will play all their matches in Dubai, where the tournament is set to be co-hosted.

Earlier, there were speculations that India might play a warm-up game against Bangladesh or the UAE, but those plans have now been dropped.

The event will take place from February 19 to March 9. Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Dubai have been confirmed as host venues.

The Rohit Sharma-led India will begin its campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Their highly anticipated clash with Pakistan is scheduled for February 23 at the same venue, followed by a group-stage fixture against New Zealand on March 2.

A final decision regarding his availability will be made by February 11, the deadline for squad submissions to the ICC.

Pakistan Likely to Face Another Setback After FIFA Suspension

0

The participation of Pakistan in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers remains uncertain as the national football team continues to face the suspension from FIFA.

Last week, FIFA suspended the Pakistan Football Federation after its Congress rejected proposed amendments, revoking its membership rights.

As a result, the national football teams are barred from all international competitions until the issue is resolved.

Pakistan is set to compete in Group E alongside Syria, Myanmar, and Afghanistan, with their opening match scheduled against Syria on March 25.

However, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has warned that if the suspension is not lifted by March 4, Pakistan will be deemed to have withdrawn from the qualifiers.

In a letter to PFF, the AFC stressed the urgency of resolving the situation, highlighting the need for adequate preparation time before the qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the national women team has already withdrawn from the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, set to begin in June.

With no official response from the PFF, the uncertainty surrounding Pakistan’s football future continues, raising concerns over the country’s long-term participation in international tournaments.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia to Convene Emergency OIC Meeting Over Netanyahu’s Remarks

0

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to convene an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s controversial remarks on Palestine.

The decision was made during a phone call between Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

The Pakistani Foreign Office strongly condemned Netanyahu’s statements, reaffirming Islamabad’s support for Saudi sovereignty and the Palestinian cause. The Saudi minister appreciated Pakistan’s consistent backing of the Kingdom’s position.

Both leaders agreed on the urgent need to convene the OIC meeting to address the situation in Gaza. Dar also discussed the matter with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, with both nations committing to support the OIC session.

Pakistan reiterated its firm stance on Palestine, advocating for an independent state within pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. The foreign ministry condemned any proposals involving the displacement of Palestinians.

Netanyahu’s remarks have drawn widespread criticism. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan have rejected his comments, with Cairo calling them a direct attack on Saudi sovereignty.

The controversy follows former U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion that Palestinians be resettled elsewhere, an idea dismissed by Arab states.

Meanwhile, Gaza remains under heavy Israeli bombardment, which has killed over 47,000 people since the conflict escalated following Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack that left 1,200 Israelis dead and over 250 taken hostage.

PMD Predicts Start Date for Ramadan

0

Pakistan is expected to observe the first fast of Ramadan on March 2, as there are strong chances of the crescent moon being sighted on the evening of March 1.

According to details shared by PMD, the new moon is likely to be born on February 28 at 5:45 PM, making it visible on March 1.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on Sha’ban 29 to review moon sighting reports before announcing the start of the month of Ramadan.

Islamic scholars from various sects will take part in the deliberations to ensure consensus on the moon sighting.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, holds great spiritual significance for Muslims worldwide, who observe fasting from dawn to sunset.

In Pakistan, the month is observed with deep religious devotion, marked by increased acts of charity and communal iftar gatherings.

As Ramadan approaches, markets across the country are expected to see heightened activity in preparation for the holy month.

New Zealand’s Wins Turn Pakistan vs. South Africa into a Virtual Semi-Final

0

A six-wicket victory for New Zealand over South Africa has turned the upcoming game between Pakistan and South Africa into a virtual semi-final, as they have won both games.

The Black Caps defeated the home side by 78 runs in their opening game of the tri-nation series after a fantastic batting display from Glenn Phillips, who scored an unbeaten 106.

The Kiwis then stunned South Africa in their second match, chasing down a mammoth total of 305 runs with the loss of just four wickets at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

In the third game of the tri-nation series, hosts Pakistan will lock horns with South Africa at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on February 12.

PTI’s February 8 Protest: A Shift in Strategy and Struggles for Relevance

0

PTI marked February 8 as Black Day with protests, facing low turnout and shifting strategies, while the government observed it as a Day of Reconstruction and Development.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf marked February 8 as Black Day, whereas the government observed it as a day of reconstruction and development.

PTI primarily called for a nationwide protest, but the demonstration, or large gathering, was covered in Swabi, where PTI officials spoke and made it clear that they would not negotiate or debate this issue; instead, choices would be made on the road.

The Pakistani government has not been significantly impacted by the PTI’s power display on February 8. Due to internal conflicts and the absence of the PTI founder and leader, the audience at this event was less than at previous PTI rallies. From the beginning, the founder of PTI Credit operated aggressively. This was how he used to persuade country.

Right now, the PTI founder is writing letters to his fans with instructions and other topics. These letters will undoubtedly lead to arguments between party members and supporters, but I don’t think they would persuade the government. PTI leaders like Barrister Gohar and Mehmood Khan Achakzai are very courteous; they did not make combative remarks; their only goals are justice and free elections.

This is evident in their rally speeches and other declarations. Rallies were, in my opinion, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s strength in the past, but they are currently one of its weaknesses. They are aware that they must speak with the government about this and seek justice in the courts.

However, we also know that they are not receiving justice; they have been the targets of kidnapping, harassment, and blackmail. All they have to do is demonstrate peacefully, and the government ought to let them to do so. PTI is being extremely cautious after November 26. Both their regulations and how they express their position have changed.

They have adapted new tactics and modified their previous approach. Although the government still refused to allow them to have a nonviolent demonstration in Lahore, the PTI refrained from making forceful remarks about it as they had in the past, and their remarks during the protest on February 8th were delivered with extreme caution.

In some ways, the PTI founder’s letters are pointless as the government is not responding to them. In fact, rather than focusing on the protest and letters written by the PTI leader on February 8th, they have proclaimed February 8th as the Day of Reconstruction and Development and celebrated it widely.
However, the government does not respond or say anything when he writes to the chief justice, but it does react and make statements against it when he writes to the army chief. This is PTI’s new approach to resolving the problems. Their operational habits have been tempered. Both sides exhibited distinct behaviors; neither the government nor the PTI engaged in violent protests or torture.

PTI had two options: The first was to talk about their issues, and the second was to demonstrate. They opted to demonstrate, but the army head and DGISPR stated that they had no interest in talks or any form of compromise.

PTI chose to protest for that reason, so why wasn’t the turnout as large as it used to be? The issue was that on May 9, the same thing occurred, but the situation was different because, in response to the PTI founder and leader’s call, they protested violently.
09 May As a result, the PTI declared that these individuals were agency employees and not PTI supporters, and those who participated in the protest at the time faced severe consequences, including imprisonment. When the protest turned violent on November 26, the same thing occurred.

The PTI officials said that these individuals are actually employees of agencies and not PTI members. The repudiated leadership is solely to blame for the current state of the PTI march and protest. For PTI, both doors are now closed. For PTI, this is a very concerning issue.

PTI should have allowed the government to default rather than shutting down parliamentary debate. For PTI, that is the only choice. However, the PTI leader is standing by his choice to demonstrate.

When we consider the events from his point of view, such as his arrest, the repercussions he and his party members endure, including several instances of harassment, etc., he refuses to back down or change his position; he would much rather sit in prison. It’s popular opinion, so I’m not saying he’s right or wrong. I’m only laying forth the facts based on Tehreek-e-Insaf’s history as the foundation of Pakistan.

They should consider this; they cannot alter the government or free someone from prison with a single protest, but they were hoping that the government would be shaken by the demonstration, but things did not proceed as planned. Although the authorities did not respond to the demonstration, they did demonstrate their power in their province.

What are they going to do next? They alone are aware. It is entirely the property of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Will they prefer a peaceful demonstration or a debate in parliament? They have the right to make both of these choices, and the government ought to respect that.

Floodlight Malfunction Delays India vs England 2nd ODI at Barabati Stadium

0

In an unusual turn of events during the highly anticipated second One Day International (ODI) between the India national cricket team and the England cricket team, play was interrupted due to a floodlight malfunction at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium on February 9, 2025. The delay occurred shortly after the Indian innings began, leaving fans and players waiting in uncertainty.

What Happened?

The disruption took place during the seventh over of India’s chase, with the team at 48/0, as one of the floodlight towers experienced technical issues. Initially, the lights flickered, and although they briefly returned, the problem persisted, leading to a complete shutdown of one of the towers.

The umpires promptly decided to halt the game for safety reasons and escorted the players off the field. Efforts were made to restore the lighting as technicians scrambled to fix the issue.

Emergency lighting provided temporary relief, but the full intensity required for play was not achieved for a considerable period. The incident resulted in a delay of over 30 minutes, sparking frustration among players and fans alike.

Fan Reaction

While the delay tested the patience of the players, the spectators in the stands turned the situation into a memorable moment by lighting up the stadium with their mobile phone flashlights.

The heartwarming gesture created a visually stunning spectacle, with fans cheering to keep the energy alive in the dimly lit arena. Social media was abuzz with reactions to the floodlight failure.

Many users criticized the infrastructure management at Barabati Stadium, calling for improved contingency measures for such high-profile matches. However, others lauded the fans for their spirited response during the interruption.

Match Resumption

After a prolonged effort by the stadium authorities, the technical issues were resolved, and the match resumed without any reduction in overs. Both teams returned to the field, determined to maintain their momentum in what has been a fiercely contested series.

The interruption did not dampen the competitive spirit, as players quickly got back into action once the lights were restored. This incident raises questions about the preparedness of stadiums hosting international cricket matches.

With millions of viewers following the ind vs eng live score updates and fans present at the stadium, such disruptions not only affect the flow of the game but also tarnish the reputation of the venue. Regular maintenance and contingency plans for unforeseen technical failures are essential to ensure smooth operations during matches of this stature.

What’s Next?

As the game progressed, India aimed to chase the target of 304 set by England, with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli leading the charge. England’s bowling attack, led by Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood, looked to capitalize on any disruptions to maintain their grip on the match.

For fans, the incident added a layer of unpredictability to the series, already brimming with excitement following India’s narrow win in the 1st ODI. Stay tuned for more updates on the india national cricket team vs england cricket team match scorecard as the series unfolds.

While the floodlight failure was an unexpected hiccup in an otherwise electrifying match, it served as a reminder of the importance of robust infrastructure in cricket. ECB Updates on England vs. Afghanistan Champions Trophy 2025 Match

0

England will play Afghanistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 despite boycott calls over the Taliban’s stance on women’s rights, the ECB confirmed.

Last month, British lawmakers and South Africa’s Sports Minister, Gayton McKenzie, urged England to boycott the February 26 match in Lahore.

Afghanistan had 25 contracted women cricketers in 2020, but most have since gone into exile in Australia following the Taliban’s takeover in August 2021.

ECB Chair Richard Thompson stated that after discussions with the government, ICC, and national players, they decided to play the match.

He emphasized that the cricketing community alone could not resolve such issues, advocating for a coordinated international response rather than unilateral action by the ECB.

Thompson acknowledged that cricket remains one of the few sources of joy for many Afghans and confirmed England’s participation in the fixture.

He also suggested that the ICC recognize an Afghanistan women’s refugee team and provide opportunities for displaced Afghan women in coaching.

Thompson described the situation in Afghanistan as “gender apartheid,” lamenting that Afghan girls are denied opportunities in cricket.

FIFA bans Pakistan Football Federation

0

FIFA suspended the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) with immediate effect after its Congress rejected proposed constitutional amendments.

FIFA stated that the suspension was due to the failure of PFF to adopt a revised constitution ensuring fair elections under its normalisation process.

The suspension will only be lifted if the PFF Congress approves the version of the constitution presented by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

During a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter-provincial Coordination, Haroon Malik warned that Pakistan faced the risk of suspension.

The suspension increases pressure on the Pakistan Football Federation Congress to comply with the much needed demands of international football body.

During a meeting last month, the Congress rejected the proposed amendments, which primarily focused on the eligibility criteria for the presidency.

FIFA had given the PFF Normalisation Committee until February 15 to conduct elections, but the refusal of Congress to adopt the amendments stalled the process.

The chairman of the PFF Normalisation Committee, appointed by FIFA, has reached out to Congress members in an effort to arrange meetings to resolve the issue.

The PFF has been embroiled in crises and controversies since 2015, and this marks the third instance of Pakistan’s suspension since 2017.

Australia Faces Setback as Key Player Retires Days Before Champions Trophy

0

Australian all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis, has announced his immediate retirement from ODI cricket, just weeks before the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.

The decision, revealed on Thursday, leaves Australia without a key all-rounder following the injury of Mitch Marsh, which has ruled him out of the tournament.

“Playing for Australia in ODIs has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every opportunity I’ve had in the green and gold,” Stoinis stated.

Stoinis, who represented Australia in 71 ODIs, further added that it was not easy for him to take such a step but it is time to focus next phase of his career.

Despite his retirement, Stoinis extended his support to the Australian squad, who are set to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. “I’ll be cheering the boys on,” he said.

The 35-year-old’s decision is seen as a strategic move to extend his T20 career, where he remains a crucial player in Australia’s plans.

Stoinis was part of the Australian preliminary Champions Trophy squad but will be replaced as the team finalizes its lineup for the February 19 event.

Trump Issues Order Banning Transgender Athletes from Competition

0

United States President, Donald Trump, has signed an executive order banning transgender girls and women from competing in female sports.

The order directs the Department of Justice to enforce the restriction under Title IX, a law designed to prevent sex-based discrimination in education.

“The war on women’s sports is over. My administration will not stand by and watch men beat and batter female athletes,” Donald Trump said.

The order threatens to withhold federal funding from schools that allow transgender athletes to participate in female sports.

It is expected to face legal challenges, with advocacy groups arguing it infringes on the rights of transgender individuals.

Critics, including LGBTQ+ organizations, have condemned the recent move from the newly elected President, warning it will lead to discrimination.

Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said the order would make life harder for transgender youth.

“For so many students, sports provide a sense of belonging. We should be encouraging participation, not excluding children based on politics,” she said.

The issue has become a focal point in United States politics, with Trump frequently addressing it at campaign rallies.

Public opinion remains divided, with polls indicating most Americans oppose transgender athletes competing in categories aligning with their gender identity.

Prince Karim Aga Khan, Spiritual Leader of the Ismaili Community, Dies at 88; His Son, Prince Rahim Aga Khan, Succeeds as the 50th Imam

0

Prince Karim Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, passed away at 88. His son, Prince Rahim Aga Khan, succeeds him as the 50th Imam, continuing his legacy.

The Ismaili community’s spiritual leader Prince Karim Aga Khan passed away, at the age of 88. He was the Molana Shah Karim Al-Hussaini Ismaili community’s 49th spiritual head.

Prince Karim Aga Khan passed away in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, on February 4, according to the Aga Khan network. Prince Karim’s three sons, Hussain Aga Khan, Ali Muhammad Aga Khan, and Rahim Aga Khan, as well as his daughter, Zahra Aga Khan, are among those in mourning.

In 1936, Prince Karim Aga Khan was born. He assumed responsibility as the 49th spiritual head of the Ismaili community from 1957 until 2025, when he was 20 years old.

We have lost a friend of Pakistan and of humanity, which is sad news for Pakistan. I am referring to the Ismaili community’s spiritual head, Prince Karim Aga Khan. As we can see, he is highly valued for private development worldwide.

He founded the Aga Khan Development Network and serves as its chairman. In 1957, Prince Karim Aga Khan was proclaimed the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community; after that, we witnessed Ashian forcibly with Uganda, petroleum politics in Central Asia, and petroleum politics in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India.

This development network was established to improve the health and education of underserved areas, whether it be for the Ismaili Muslims, who number 12 million. It was not limited to the Ismaili community; in fact, it touched all underprivileged populations worldwide.

When it comes to Pakistan, Prince Karim Aga Khan has also made an effort to assist the country. This is where the Aga Khan Development Network is most engaged. They strive to reduce poverty, particularly by fostering economic development in historic locations and enhancing people’s abilities, whether via hospitality or other means.

The Aga Khan Development Network, often known as the Aga Khan Hospital or the Aga Khan Education Network, has become a standard in and of itself. Aga Khan Prince Karim Aga Khan intended to establish a liberal arts institution in Pakistan in addition to providing the undeniable services of Aga Khan institution Hospital.

Prince Karim Aga Khan received the coveted Nishan-i-Pakistan and Nishan-i-Imtiaz awards from the Pakistani government. Among the highest civil orders are these. When we learn today that he died at the age of 88, it leaves a great void in the world.

He was able to advise a great number of people with his expertise, therefore there is no second view on this. Whether you are a member of his community or not makes no difference in this; he undoubtedly had a beneficial influence on our lives.

More than 200 organisations and agencies now operate in Pakistan because to Aga Khan’s extensive network. He was among Pakistan’s wealthiest individuals. His organisation, the Aga Khan Development Network, has an annual budget of around US$600 billion, making it the largest private development network in the world.
Rahim Aga Khan

The 50th spiritual head was appointed in accordance with Ismaili customs, according to the Aga Khan Development Network. According to the historical Shia Imami Ismaili Muslim tradition and mass practice, Mawlana Shah Karim has named Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V as the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims.

After Mawlana Shah Karim’s Will was read, the announcement was made in Lisbon on February 5, 2025, in front of the Imam’s family and prominent Jamati officials.

In an uninterrupted line of succession from Hazrat Mawlana Ali (peace be upon him), our 50th Imam, Mawlana Shah Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, is the heir apparent to the Nur of Imamat.

The eldest son of Prince Karim Aga Khan and Princess Salimah Aga Khan, his second marriage, is Prince Rahim Aga Khan. He was born in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 12, 1971.

Prince Rahim attended various prominent schools and institutions. First in the United States and then in Europe, he continued his education. The 50th spiritual leader of Ismaili community prince Rahim’s interest is to enhance his father’s mission for the betterment of the Ismaili community.

Prince Karim Aga Khan undoubtedly contributed to Pakistan’s growth, and the Ismaili community is regarded as one of the most organised, dedicated, and advanced in the world. Prince Karim Aga Khan is known for his vision, speeches, and outstanding and remarkable leadership.

It was a depressing day for the entire globe, not just the Ismaili community.

Usman Khawaja Slams SEN for Dropping Journalist Over Gaza Posts

0

Australian cricketer, Usman Khawaja, has criticized radio station SEN for dropping journalist, Peter Lalor over his posts on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Peter Lalor, a respected cricket journalist, had recently shared posts on X highlighting Israeli military actions in Gaza, Palestine.

Following discussions with the broadcaster, he was informed that his posts were deemed unbalanced and offensive to certain audiences.

Khawaja, who has openly supported Palestinians, defended Lalor in an Instagram post, stating that supporting the people of Gaza was not anti-Semitic.

“It is about justice and human rights,” he said, adding that discrimination against both Jewish and Muslim communities must be addressed.

SEN’s chief, Craig Hutchison, acknowledged Lalor’s contributions but emphasized the need to consider the concerns of affected communities.

Lalor, however, rejected accusations of bias or antisemitism, maintaining that his posts were meant to raise awareness.

The incident follows rising Islamophobic and anti-Semitic tensions in Australia amid the Gaza conflict, which began in October last year.

Meanwhile, Australia leads the Test series 1-0 against Sri Lanka, with the second match set to begin in Galle on Thursday.

Kashmir Solidarity Day: A Tribute to the Struggle for Self-Determination

0

Kashmir Solidarity Day, observed on 5 Feb by Pakistan since 1990, expresses support for Kashmiris’ self-determination and highlights Indian actions in the region.

5 February is a day to express solidarity with Kashmir by Pakistan. Since 1990, Pakistanis have been celebrating this day every time on 5 February in solidarity with Kashmir.

This all started in the 1948 war, and after that, with the help of 35A and Article 370, India enthralled the independence of Kashmir. At the time of Pakistan’s sovereignty, India breached the freedom of Kashmir.

The main concern of Kashmir Solidarity Day is to raise a voice against cruel and unjust treatment passed in Kashmir by India. Also to make brothers and sisters of Kashmir believe that Pakistan is with them in this struggle of self-determination.

Indias brutality
Indias brutality

Kashmir is the” Shah rag” of Pakistan. 21st January 1990 was a black day in history when the people of Kashmir were raising their voices for their self-determination in the entire valley, including Srinagar, and Indian forces attacked them and straight fire on the people of Kashmir and made them the target of brutality. And because of blasting and torture, 51 innocent people in Kashmir lost their lives. Humanity shuddered at the bloodshed by the Indian army.

The leader of the Islamic party, Qazi Hussain Ahmad, demanded a day for the covenant with Kashmir. At that time, the government was of the Pakistan People’s Party, and the Prime Minister was Benazir Bhutto, a martyr, and Nawaz Sharif was the Chief Minister of Punjab.

At the demand of Qazi Hussain Ahmad, the federation and all businesses supported him, and for the first time in the history of Pakistan, Kashmir Solidarity Day was celebrated in Pakistan on 5 February 1990. Till now, it’s celebrated with this end that Kashmir will become Pakistan.

People of Pakistan celebrate this day to get attention from all over the world. On the issue of Kashmir, the people of Pakistan are giving this communication to the people of Kashmir who are floundering in self-determination that Pakistan and the people of Pakistan are with them.

All over Pakistan, there’s vacation in every institute, whether it’s government or private. On 5 August 2019, after the illegal attack by India in occupied Kashmir, the significance of Kashmir Solidarity Day increased in Pakistan. We, as a people of Pakistan, are celebrating Kashmir Solidarity Day with this end that one day we will get independence for Kashmir.

It’s a part of our state or foreign policy to stand with Kashmir. In Pakistan, Kashmir Solidarity Day is celebrated to send a message to the people of Pakistan that the people of Kashmir are our brothers and sisters. We have to stand with them in their ups and downs. Our only aim is the independence of Kashmir, and we will get it.
Kashmir Solidarity DayKashmir should be an independent state. Both countries should agree on this so that border pressures will decrease, and both countries will live like good neighbour countries. Right now, this world needs peace rather than wars, and Solidarity Days provide this communication.

Former Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, is regarded as one of the best modern-day cricketers in the world and among the greatest Pakistan has ever produced.

His consistency in scoring runs, precise shot-making, talent, and skill have made him a hot topic of discussion, often drawing comparisons with the game’s modern greats.
