Jamaica to Host Historic First Day-Night Test at Sabina Park in July

Jamaica is all set to make history by hosting its first day-night Test, with the pink-ball fixture at Sabina Park this July.

Jamaica is all set to make history by hosting its first day-night Test, with the pink-ball fixture at Sabina Park this July.

The highly anticipated game will feature the West Indies and Australia, marking a significant milestone for Caribbean cricket.

Regional cricket authorities confirmed preparations are underway to ensure the venue meets all necessary standards.

Sabina Park is currently undergoing upgrades, including the installation of additional lighting, to align with the requirements for the game.

KCC head Daley Redcliffe confirmed a day-night match this summer but deferred details to the Jamaica Cricket Association JCA.

JCA CEO Courtney Francis emphasized the importance of the occasion, describing it as a historic event for both the JCA and Jamaica.

Courtney Francis credited the Jamaica government, JCA, and CWI for securing funds to upgrade stadium lighting.

Additionally, he noted that a new electronic scoreboard would be installed before the match, ensuring the venue’s readiness.

Sabina Park is jointly owned by Sabina Park Holdings, the JCA, and the KCC, with the latter two playing a crucial role in preparations.

Sports Minister in Jamaica, Olivia Grange confirmed funding through the Sports Development Foundation.

She cited governance issues with Sabina Park Holdings, KCC, and the JCA as obstacles to finalizing agreements.

The upcoming Test will be the Caribbean’s second pink-ball match, after Sri Lanka’s four-wicket win over the West Indies at Kensington Oval in 2018.
