Election Commission of Pakistan,
Election Commission of Pakistan

The unofficial results of local government polls in 11 union committees (UCs) in Karachi, held on May 7, 2023, show that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won five seats, while Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has secured three. The remaining three seats were won by other parties. These results may change the party position in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, where currently the PPP is the largest party, followed by the JI by a close margin. The PPP had earlier criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for conducting the elections before holding the mayoral elections, stating that it would set a bad precedent. The ECP did not accept the PPP’s demand. Elections were held in the remaining 63 local body seats in five divisions of Sindh amid reports of a few incidents of violence. The polling process remained largely peaceful.
