Polio is still a problem in Pakistan, and the latest news is worrying. Two new cases have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These cases have once again reminded people that the fight against polio is not over yet.
The new cases were found in Bannu and North Waziristan. With these, the total number of polio cases in 2026 has reached three. Earlier, the first case this year was reported in Sujawal, where a young child was affected.
These cases were confirmed by the lab at the National Institute of Health Pakistan. This shows that the virus is still present in some areas, especially where vaccination is missed or delayed.
To control the situation, the government is planning a big anti-polio campaign in May 2026. The aim is to vaccinate around 19 million children in different parts of the country. Health workers will go door to door to make sure every child gets the drops. Parents are being requested to fully support this campaign.
Polio can be prevented, but only if every child is vaccinated on time. With teamwork and awareness, Pakistan can move closer to becoming polio-free.
