Nation Goes Dark Again as Pakistan Faces Widespread Internet Outage

On Monday evening, internet connection across Pakistan was disrupted again, this time hitting prominent social media sites such as Facebook and X. Users of major networks like as PTCL, Ufone, and Zong stated that these platforms were only accessible via VPNs. Many others complained about poor surfing speeds and problems using messaging apps like WhatsApp.

In contrast, several internet service providers, notably Nayatel, were untouched, with regular access to both Facebook and X. Data from Downdetector revealed hundreds of reports of connection issues, proving a widespread problem.

This current disruption followed days of mobile internet suspension in Islamabad and Lahore over the weekend due to rallies staged by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan. Following the announcement of marches from Lahore to Islamabad in favor of Palestinians, the government stopped mobile data connections in order to manage huge gatherings.

Authorities, notably the Ministry of Interior and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, ordered the suspension of 3G and 4G services on October 9. While the limits were intended to maintain order, they left millions of residents and companies unable to reconnect once again.
