Mobvoi has officially launched its beta program for the highly anticipated Wear OS 3 software, following a significant delay. The company announced the start of the program through a tweet, along with details on how users can participate. Interested individuals are required to fill out an application form, after which Mobvoi will begin reaching out to selected participants within a week.

The eligibility criteria for the beta program include owning one of the following devices: TicWatch Pro 3 (GPS and LTE), TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra (GPS and LTE), or TicWatch E3. To join the beta, users must sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and commit to abiding by its terms throughout the program. This means refraining from sharing photos, videos, or logs on social media platforms and maintaining active engagement with the test group. Mobvoi plans to facilitate communication among participants by creating a dedicated Slack group where users can interact with each other and the software developers.

Mobvoi advises beta testers to promptly update their devices with the latest OTA (over-the-air) updates. Additionally, participants are asked to submit bug reports whenever their device’s battery level drops below 20%. In the event of critical issues, users may be required to provide video evidence or relevant log data, with individuals familiar with the Android Debug Bridge tool given preference during the application process.

The delay in releasing the Wear OS 3 update was addressed by Mobvoi in May when the company explained that proprietary hardware used in the TicWatch devices necessitated architectural upgrades and extensive performance debugging before implementing the new software. In a letter to TicWatch owners, a company representative hinted at a potential program start in the third quarter of 2023, aligning with the current timeline as users are expected to receive notification within a week.

Meanwhile, the recent release of a new update for the TicWatch Pro 5 brought several enhancements to the device, keeping users engaged while they await the Wear OS 3 update.

Mobvoi’s Wear OS 3 beta program offers TicWatch owners an exclusive opportunity to experience and provide feedback on the highly anticipated software update. With the NDA in place and active engagement expected, participants will contribute to the refinement of the system, ultimately benefiting the entire TicWatch community.
