After years of instability and administrative setbacks, Pakistan football is finally on the path to potential reform.

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) is set to hold its long-delayed elections on May 20, a move expected to end a five-year leadership vacuum.

The announcement came from the FIFA-appointed Normalisation Committee (NC), which has been managing the PFF’s affairs since 2019.

The committee confirmed that the PFF Elective Congress will convene on May 20 to choose a new executive body that will lead the sport into its next chapter.

The electoral process officially begins today (Monday), with interested candidates allowed to file nominations for leadership positions.

According to the NC’s schedule, candidates have ten days to submit their applications. This will be followed by a week-long scrutiny period.

A window of four days has been set aside for appeals, and another two days will be given for decisions on those appeals.

A final list of approved candidates will be released on April 30. Nominees will then have nearly three weeks to campaign before the final vote is held.

This development marks a turning point in a process that has dragged on since September 2019, when FIFA appointed the NC to manage daily operations and prepare for fresh elections.

Over the years, the NC has witnessed frequent leadership changes and even faced suspensions from FIFA, further complicating matters.

With a firm election date now in place, the country’s football community remains cautiously hopeful.

Though elections alone won’t fix all of the sport’s issues, many view this step as vital to bringing structure, vision, and renewed energy to football in Pakistan.
