The UAE’s International League T20 (ILT20) will shift its schedule to a December-January window for its upcoming season, aiming to avoid the crowded early-year cricket calendar. The 2025 edition will begin on December 2 and end on January 4, 2026—finishing nearly a month before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, set for February and March.

This marks a notable change for the league, now entering its fourth season, as it has traditionally taken place in January. The previous scheduling often clashed with other global T20 leagues, including South Africa’s SA20, Bangladesh’s BPL, and Australia’s BBL.

ILT20 officials believe the revised window will allow better player availability and preparation time for those competing in both the league and the T20 World Cup. Although a partial overlap with the BBL remains, the new timing is expected to ease scheduling pressure on teams and players.

CEO David White explained that the decision came after consultations with key stakeholders. He stressed that finishing the tournament before the World Cup would help players prepare for international duty. He also pointed out that holding the league in December might give teams more flexibility in selecting overseas players.

Chairman of ILT20 and Vice-Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, Khalid Al Zarooni, highlighted the significance of starting the season on UAE’s National Day. He said it was an opportunity to celebrate both the country’s spirit and its love for cricket.

It remains uncertain whether this change will be permanent or only for the upcoming season.

Since its launch, the ILT20 has featured six teams. Gulf Giants, MI Emirates, and Dubai Capitals have each claimed the title once in the league’s first three editions.
