Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a nationwide heatwave alert from April 26 to May 1, warning of above-normal temperatures across most regions.
A high-pressure system is expected to develop over the upper atmosphere on April 26, gradually extending to most parts of the country by April 27. As a result, daytime temperatures in the southern regions—including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan—are projected to soar 5°C to 7°C above normal through May 1.

In the northern and central regions—such as Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan—temperatures will likely remain 4°C to 6°C above normal from April 27 to April 30.
However, relief is on the horizon. A new weather system is expected to enter the upper parts of the country on April 30, bringing rain, gusty winds, hailstorms, and isolated heavy falls in Kashmir, Islamabad, Pothohar region, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan. These conditions are likely to subdue the ongoing heatwave by May 1.
