Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, accompanied by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, briefed the media on Tuesday about ongoing rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas of the country.

DG ISPR said that, under the directives of the army chief, the Pakistan Army had intensified efforts, rescuing 6,903 people and providing medical support through nine relief camps set up in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Eight army units are engaged in operations across the province, with two battalions specifically deployed in Buner. Army Aviation has also been mobilized to carry out aerial rescue and supply missions.

Minister Tarar noted that, on the prime minister’s instructions, relief activities had been accelerated in coordination with the NDMA, Pakistan Army, and provincial governments. He confirmed that 25,000 people had been relocated to safer areas so far.

NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider reported that 670 people have died and 1,000 sustained injuries as a result of torrential rains, floods, and landslides. He added that more bodies of missing persons had been recovered, while contingency plans were in place ahead of fresh monsoon spells expected until August 23.

Meanwhile, relief goods, including food and medicines, are being dispatched under the Prime Minister’s ration package to five of the worst-hit districts. Since August 17, around 25,000 people have been rescued and provided medical assistance.
