Pakistani YouTube sensation and vlogger Rajab Butt has once again found himself at the center of controversy, this time due to his latest perfume brand, 295, which has drawn allegations of blasphemy and disrespect toward Islamic values.
The controversy erupted following the perfume’s launch, with critics pointing out that Section 295 of the Pakistan Penal Code deals with religious offenses and blasphemy laws. The name immediately sparked outrage, with social media users condemning Butt for insensitivity.
Clarification on ‘295’ Perfume Name
In response to the backlash, tiktoker clarified that the name 295 was inspired by the late Indian singer Sidhu Moose Wala, who had referenced the section in his song, and not because of any allegations against himself regarding disrespecting Namaz (prayers).
Despite his explanation, the issue remained sensitive, leading to widespread criticism across platforms. Many users accused him of exploiting a controversial legal provision for commercial purposes.
Rajab Butt’s Apology & Discontinuation of Perfume
Amid mounting pressure, Butt released a public apology video, reaffirming his respect for Islam, the Quran, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and all revered Islamic figures. He emphasized that his remarks were not intended to oppose Pakistan’s blasphemy laws and declared his full support for existing religious regulations.
As a gesture of reconciliation, he announced the discontinuation of the 295 perfume brand, expressing regret for any offense caused. He also pledged to focus on more responsible business initiatives moving forward.
The controversy surrounding Rajab Butt serves as yet another reminder of the sensitivity of religious matters in Pakistan and the potential repercussions of associating commercial products with such themes.
