A risky proposal happened on New York City‘s famous Empire State building. The dramatic incident attracted worldwide attention when Russian rooftop climbers Angela Nikolau and Vanya Beerkus climbed to the top of the skyscraper without permission. Their romantic engagement quickly became a legal matter after police arrested them.
The couple climbed the antenna spire of the Empire State Building, reaching nearly 1,454 feet above the streets of Manhattan.
During the climb, the couple recorded videos and took photos while standing near the glowing red warning light at the top of the building. At that breathtaking height, boy got down on one knee and proposed to girl. She happily accepted, and the two celebrated with a warm hug and a kiss high above New York City.
The couple also displayed a black banner with a message that read, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.” The romantic scene quickly spread across social media, where many people praised the proposal. However, others criticized the dangerous stunt and pointed out the serious safety risks.
Their celebration did not last long. Police arrested Angela Nikolau and Vanya Beerkus instantly. Instead of spending their first night as an engaged couple together, they spent the whole night in separate jail cells.
According to reports, the couple faces several charges, including burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, criminal tampering, disorderly conduct, and possession of burglar’s tools. They were scheduled to appear in court to respond to the charges.
