Arshad Sharif’s Mother Passes Away

Riffat Alvi, the mother of slain journalist Arshad Sharif, passed away.

Riffat Alvi had been struggling with grief since her son’s tragic death in Kenya on October 24, 2022. Arshad Sharif, a respected Pakistani journalist, was shot dead in a mysterious incident that sparked outrage across the nation.

He was honored with the Pride of Performance Award in 2023 by then President Arif Alvi for his outstanding work in journalism. However, his killing remains unsolved, with slow progress in the investigation repeatedly criticized by the Supreme Court and media organizations.

Arshad’s wife, Javeria Siddique, shared the heartbreaking news on X, writing that “Riffat Alvi had died while still waiting for justice for her son”.

Many journalists and public figures have expressed sorrow and solidarity with the Sharif family, remembering Riffat Alvi as a grieving mother who never gave up hope for accountability. Her death marks another chapter of pain in a case that continues to raise questions about press freedom and justice in Pakistan.
