The acid attack on a young lady doctor in Quetta has been very shocking. This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of women workers in Pakistan. Doctors and medical staff held protests on Tuesday, demanding justice for the victim.
The victim, Dr. Mahnoor Nasir, was attacked on Saturday, June 5, while she was on duty. A man threw acid at her. The acid affected her face, one hand, and a leg. About 13 percent of her body was burned.
Police identified the attacker named, Hamayun Shah, who worked as a lift operator at the hospital. After the attack, he allegedly tried to escape. Officers later tracked him down at a bus station and arrested him.
Dr. Mahnoor’s family confirms her condition is stable. She is currently receiving specialized treatment in Karachi. She may require a plastic surgery. There is also a possibility that she could be flown abroad for better treatment.
