Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has put an immediate ban on cutting trees in forests and on the auction of timber across the province. The decision, announced on Wednesday, ends the old timber auction system that had been followed for many years.

The move is part of the government’s plan to protect forests and stop fast deforestation that is damaging the environment.

The Chief Minister directed officials to create a modern and transparent system for managing forests. She stressed the use of digital mapping and other technologies to monitor forests, stop illegal logging, and improve the care of natural resources.

Officials said the new measures are not only about banning tree cutting but also about keeping a balance between development and environmental protection. The government wants to reduce the harmful effects of climate change, save natural resources, and make sure that future generations can enjoy Punjab’s forests.
