Pakistani actor Ahad Raza Mir is set to make his mark in the international arena once again with his role in the highly-anticipated second season of the World War II drama, World on Fire. Mir, who gained recognition for his performance in Netflix’s Resident Evil, spoke to the BBC about his character and the challenges he faced while filming the series. The war drama is scheduled to premiere on October 15, 2023.

In World on Fire, Mir portrays the character of Rajib, an Indian officer serving in the British Army. Describing his role, Mir explained that Rajib is a fearless and determined individual who strictly adheres to military protocols. However, as the show progresses, Rajib’s character becomes more complex, particularly when he experiences racism despite being a soldier from the Commonwealth. Mir highlighted the heartbreak Rajib goes through when he realizes that his belief in equality is shattered as he faces discrimination in areas like ration distribution.

Filming the grand set pieces in the desert presented its own set of challenges for Mir. He mentioned the daunting experience of working with actual explosions on set, noting the physicality of the scenes and the engulfing dust and dirt. Mir also shed light on the role of the Sappers, the military engineers responsible for handling explosives and clearing mines, emphasizing the symbolic nature of their work and the risks they take while confronting systemic racism.

Discussing Rajib’s relationships in the show, Mir highlighted his character’s friendship with Stan, played by Blake Harrison. He described their bond as a “bromance” and shared that they have some beautiful scenes together. Additionally, Mir touched upon the leadership skills of Rajib and how they differ from the character Harry, played by Jonah Hauer-King. While Rajib initially leads with his head, making rational decisions, he gradually starts to follow his heart and adapt his approach. In contrast, Harry consistently leads with his heart, always aiming to do what is right and support others.

World on Fire Season 2 will see Mir in a supporting role alongside the original cast members. The synopsis teases an intense storyline, with RAF pilots tasked to destroy German bombers above Manchester, while rescue operations take place on the city’s streets. The season promises to take viewers on a journey from war-torn Britain to Nazi Germany, occupied France, and the treacherous North African desert, where soldiers face a different kind of combat.

As fans eagerly await the premiere of World on Fire Season 2, Ahad Raza Mir’s involvement in this international production is sure to captivate audiences and further solidify his presence on the global stage.
