Families in Tamil Nadu will receive a special gift from the state government. Chief Minister Vijay has announced the Thai Maman Gold Ring Scheme, every child born in a government hospital will receive a one-gram gold ring.
The new welfare scheme will benefit babies born in government hospitals from June 22, 2026, which is also the birthday of Chief Minister Vijay. However, the official launch ceremony of the scheme will take place on September 15, 2026, the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai, popularly known as Perarignar Anna.
What Is the Thai Maman Gold Ring Scheme?
Under this scheme, the Tamil Nadu government will gift a gold ring to every newborn born in every government hospital in the region. The scheme is inspired by a cultural tradition in which a maternal uncle presents a gift to a newborn child. Through this program, the government will symbolically take on that role and welcome every newborn with a special gift.
Government Allocates Huge Budget
The Tamil Nadu government has set aside Rs 755.83 crore every year for the scheme. Officials say the program aims to support families and celebrate the birth of children across the state.
While political parties have distributed gold rings to newborns on special occasions in the past, this is the first time such a practice has become an official government welfare scheme.
Who Can Get the Benefit?
The benefit will be available to babies born in government hospitals across Tamil Nadu from June 22, 2026, onward. Parents do not need to buy the ring themselves. The government will provide the one-gram gold ring as part of the scheme.
A Unique Welfare Initiative
The Thai Maman Gold Ring Scheme is one of the most unique welfare programs announced in Tamil Nadu.
