Shehbaz Sharif, Erdogan Call for Restraint Amid Middle East Tensions

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held an important telephone conversation on Tuesday, focusing on rising tensions in the Middle East and the need to maintain regional stability. Both leaders agreed that diplomacy and restraint are essential to prevent the situation from worsening.

During the call, the two leaders exchanged views on the rapidly changing regional environment, particularly after recent conflicts linked to attacks involving Iran and several Gulf countries. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the Israeli strike on Iran and described the subsequent attacks across the region as deeply concerning. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with friendly Gulf nations and emphasized Islamabad’s willingness to support peaceful dialogue and de-escalation efforts.

According to statements shared after the discussion, both leaders stressed that all parties must exercise maximum restraint. They warned that further escalation could threaten peace across the wider Middle East and create instability beyond the region. The leaders agreed that renewed diplomatic engagement would be the most effective path toward reducing tensions.

President Erdogan also expressed Turkiye’s continued support for Pakistan, especially in its fight against terrorism. He condemned recent terror attacks carried out in Pakistan and assured that Turkiye would stand by Islamabad in counterterrorism efforts. The Turkish Presidency noted that strengthening cooperation between the two countries remains a shared priority.

A key part of the conversation focused on developments in Afghanistan. President Erdogan said Turkiye was ready to help restore a ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan through diplomatic initiatives. Both leaders discussed the importance of peace along the border and agreed that regional cooperation is necessary to ensure long-term stability.

The call also highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye. Officials described the discussion as wide-ranging, covering regional and global matters alongside mutual cooperation. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued communication and coordination during uncertain times.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif later said that Pakistan would continue outreach efforts with regional leadership to promote calm and dialogue. He added that peaceful solutions remain the only sustainable way forward amid growing geopolitical tensions.

At the conclusion of the conversation, the two leaders agreed to remain in close contact and continue consultations on regional developments. Their shared message focused on diplomacy, cooperation, and collective responsibility to prevent conflict and promote lasting peace across the region.
