Pakistan Moves Towards E-Passports to Improve Travel and Security

Pakistan is taking a major step towards modernizing its passport system. The government has decided to gradually move completely to the e-passport Pakistan system. The goal is to improve security, make travel easier, and provide faster immigration services for Pakistani citizens.

The decision was discussed during a special meeting at the Passport and Immigration Headquarters. Officials reviewed plans to improve passport services and introduce more digital facilities for applicants.

What Is an E-Passport?

An e-passport looks similar to a regular passport, but it contains a small electronic chip inside.

This chip stores important information about the passport holder, including personal details and biometric data such as fingerprints and facial records. The information is protected and helps authorities verify a traveler’s identity quickly and securely.

Because of this technology, e-passports are much harder to forge than traditional passports.

Easier Travel for Pakistanis

One of the biggest benefits of the Pakistan e-passport is faster immigration clearance.

Pakistani travelers with e-passports will be able to use automated e-gates at many international airports around the world. These gates can verify information electronically, helping passengers avoid long queues and lengthy manual checks.

This means a smoother and quicker travel experience for many Pakistanis.

Major Changes Announced

The government has announced several important reforms.

Traditional passports will gradually be replaced by e-passports.

A door-to-door passport delivery service will also be introduced for applicants in Pakistan and overseas.

Another major change is the move towards cashless payments. From July 1, passport offices will stop accepting manual cash payments at bank counters. Applicants will use digital payment methods instead.

Officials also plan to improve the Pak ID system to reduce delays and speed up the application process.

How to Apply for an E-Passport

Applying for an electronic passport is similar to applying for a regular passport.

Applicants need to visit a passport office with their CNIC or NICOP and any previous passport if available.

At the office, officials will collect fingerprints, take a digital photograph, and complete the required data entry process.

Applicants can also track their passport status through the 9988 SMS service using their mobile phone number.

Benefits of the E-Passport

The e-passport offers many advantages.

It provides stronger protection against identity theft and passport forgery. The electronic chip securely stores information and helps verify the traveler’s identity.

It also meets international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This makes the passport easier to use at airports worldwide.

The passport is also designed to protect the electronic chip from damage, making it more durable than older passport systems.

A New Era for Passport Services

The shift to the Pakistan e-passport system marks an important change for travelers. The new system will improve security, reduce waiting times, and bring Pakistan’s passport services closer to modern international standards.

As the transition continues, Pakistani citizens can expect faster, safer, and more convenient travel in the years ahead.

The new e-passport Pakistan system is a big step towards modern travel. It will help citizens enjoy faster services, stronger security, and a smoother journey at airports around the world.
