Charli XCX Portrait Joins National Portrait Gallery

The Charli XCX portrait has found a permanent home at London’s National Portrait Gallery. The famous museum recently announced that it has acquired a striking photograph of the British pop star, recognizing her as one of the most influential music artists of today. The new addition celebrates Charli XCX’s impact on pop culture and her growing global success.

The portrait was taken in 2024 by British photographer and director Harley Weir. In the image, Charli XCX leans against a wall wearing a white crop top and black jeans. The simple but powerful photograph became one of the most recognizable promotional images for her hit album Brat.

The National Portrait Gallery described Charli XCX as “one of the defining artists of our time.” The museum said her music and creative style have helped shape today’s pop culture. The portrait is now displayed in the History Makers Now space, which honors people who have made an important impact on modern society.

The photograph was purchased through the Collecting the Now initiative, which supports the gallery’s collection of contemporary portraits. The acquisition was made possible with funding from the Bukhman Foundation, which donated £1 million to help the gallery collect works featuring influential people of today.

Brandei Estes, the gallery’s senior curator, praised Harley Weir’s work. She said the photographer has created a unique style that combines a close personal connection with a strong visual presence. According to the gallery, this portrait perfectly captures Charli XCX’s confident personality and artistic identity.

The Charli XCX portrait is more than just a photograph. It reflects the singer’s influence on music, fashion, and modern culture. By adding the image to its permanent collection, the National Portrait Gallery has recognized Charli XCX as an artist whose work continues to inspire audiences around the world.
