At one of the world’s most exclusive social events, a young woman with a name familiar to millions in South Asia stepped into the spotlight. Ella Wadia, the great great granddaughter of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, made her debut at Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris this weekend. The event is often called the “Met Gala for teenagers,” where only 20 young women from influential families around the world receive an invitation.
Le Bal takes place every year at the elegant Shangri-La Paris hotel, once home to Prince Roland Bonaparte. It is a night of waltzing, photographing, and social introductions for selected debutantes. This year, among royalty, heirs of major business families, and daughters of Hollywood stars, Ella stood out in a beautifully embellished, strapless gown designed by Elie Saab.
What made her appearance even more notable was her family history. Ella traces her roots back to Jinnah through his only daughter, Dina Wadia. Dina married Neville Wadia, a member of the respected Parsi Wadia industrial family, a marriage known for creating distance between her and her father. Their son, Nusli Wadia, later became a leading figure in Indian business and headed the Wadia Group. Nusli’s sons, Jehangir and Ness Wadia, continued the family legacy.
Ella is the daughter of Jehangir Wadia managing director of Bombay Dyeing, Bombay Realty, and Go First and fashion designer Celina Wadia. With her appearance at the Paris ball, Ella represents the newest generation of a family whose story connects the cities of Karachi and Bombay with one of the most glamorous traditions in Europe.
For many, her presence at Le Bal symbolized not just luxury and elegance, but also a reminder of a historic family line now stepping onto a global stage.
