A powerful story of courage and unity from 2016 has been brought back to life in a meaningful way as a new art installation is unveiled in Almaty. The sculpture honors a dramatic rescue where local residents formed a human chain to save a trapped dog and its owner from a river. This inspiring moment, which once went viral around the world, is now permanently remembered as a symbol of humanity, teamwork, and compassion.

The incident took place on the Ulken River, which flows into the popular Sairan Reservoir. A dog had fallen into the river and was unable to climb out due to steep riverbanks. Its owner jumped in to rescue the pet but also became trapped. What followed was a remarkable act of kindness nearby residents quickly formed a human chain, holding onto each other to pull both the dog and the owner to safety.

The rescue was captured on video and quickly spread across social media, gaining millions of views worldwide. The emotional footage touched hearts globally and became a powerful example of community spirit and quick thinking in times of danger.

Now, ten years later in March 2026, the city has unveiled a sculpture at the same location to commemorate the event.
