Global satellite internet provider Starlink is expected to launch its services in Pakistan by the end of this year, marking a significant step in the country’s digital connectivity landscape.
Sources confirmed that Starlink has agreed to operate within Pakistan’s legal and regulatory framework. The launch is likely to be accompanied by a high-profile ceremony, with the possible attendance of Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of SpaceX and one of the world’s richest individuals.
The Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board is currently finalising a comprehensive international satellite regulatory framework. Once completed, Starlink will receive formal registration, followed by a license issued by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The regulatory draft is being shaped after consultations with various satellite service providers. Last month, the Space Board hosted a workshop at a local hotel, which included participation from international tech giants like Amazon, Shanghai Telecom, and OneWeb. Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima, also attended the event.

While several companies expressed interest in registering under the new framework, Starlink is the first to formally apply for registration.
The launch of Starlink’s services in Pakistan is expected to significantly improve internet access in underserved and remote areas, potentially boosting digital transformation, economic growth, and public services.
According to officials, the operations of Starlink pose no threat to national security and are being seen as a major technological advancement for the country.
