In a major boost for both Pakistan and Peshawar Zalmi fans, talented batter Saim Ayub has been cleared to play in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season.

Zalmi’s owner, Javed Afridi, confirmed that the left-handed opener will be available from the very first match of the season.

Ayub, who had been sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained during Pakistan’s Test series against South Africa earlier this year, was initially expected to miss only six weeks.

However, his recovery took longer than expected, leading to his absence from the Champions Trophy.

Following advanced treatment in London, Ayub is now fit and ready to join his PSL team for the new season.

Despite concerns that Ayub might miss part of the PSL, Afridi’s announcement has provided relief to fans and the team management alike.

The 21-year-old is set to return for Zalmi’s opening match against Quetta Gladiators on Saturday, April 12.

Ayub’s absence during Pakistan’s recent tour of New Zealand was keenly felt.

The national team struggled to find a stable opening pair, and without Ayub’s flair, Pakistan endured a disappointing run, losing the T20I series 1-4 and the ODI series 0-3.

The team tested several new openers, but none could provide the consistency needed.

The new PSL season will kick off on Friday, April 11, with defending champions Islamabad United facing Lahore Qalandars.

With Ayub’s return, Zalmi will be eager to make a strong start and challenge for the title this season.
