Virat Kohli joins Shoaib Malik in T20 record

Virat Kohli reached another historic landmark in his storied career by becoming the first Indian to score over 13,000 runs in T20 cricket.

The achievement came during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) high-intensity IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

The experienced batter required just 17 runs to hit the milestone and ended up playing a crucial knock of 67 off 42 balls.

His innings included 10 boundaries and two sixes, guiding RCB to a 12-run win — their first victory at the venue in more than ten years.

The right-handed batter, 36, has now become the fifth batter in men’s T20 history to cross the 13,000-run mark.

He joined a select group featuring Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Alex Hales, and Kieron Pollard. Notably, Kohli reached the milestone in 386 innings, making him the second-fastest to do so behind Gayle, who managed it in 381 innings.

While Gayle remains the top run-scorer in T20s with 14,562 runs, Hales (13,610) and Malik (13,557) are currently ahead of Kohli.

However, given his form, the Indian star is expected to climb further up the list in the coming matches.

RCB’s win was also supported by a standout bowling performance from Krunal Pandya, who took four wickets and helped defend the team’s total.

The result moved RCB to third place in the IPL standings with six points from four matches.

Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, continued their poor run, managing just one win in five games.
