Quetta Gladiators’ spinner Usman Tariq has come under scrutiny after being reported for a suspect bowling action during a recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixture against Lahore Qalandars.
On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown observed irregularities in Tariq’s bowling technique during the match and submitted an official report to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Their concerns have led to a formal review under cricket’s standard procedures for handling potentially illegal bowling actions.
Despite the report, the PCB has confirmed that Tariq remains eligible to play and bowl in upcoming matches.

However, the board has made it clear that a second report would lead to his immediate suspension from bowling until he undergoes evaluation at the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) accredited Biomechanics Laboratory and is cleared to resume.
This approach aligns with global cricket regulations that allow bowlers under initial review to continue participating unless their action is flagged again.
It also ensures that players have the opportunity to make technical adjustments without being prematurely sidelined.
Under ICC rules, bowlers must maintain an action that does not exceed a 15-degree elbow extension during delivery. If the action goes beyond this limit, it is considered illegal.

As of now, Quetta Gladiators have not released an official response or indicated whether any corrective measures will be taken for Tariq.
The spinner’s future participation will likely depend on both his on-field performance and compliance with biomechanical standards.
Incidents like these are not uncommon in competitive cricket and are often resolved through remedial coaching and biomechanical analysis.
All eyes will now be on Usman Tariq in the coming matches as he navigates this critical phase of his professional career.
