The battle for the Serie A crown has intensified after Napoli were held to a 2-2 draw by mid-table Genoa on Sunday, allowing Inter Milan to close the gap to just one point following their 2-0 victory over Torino earlier in the day.

Napoli, who currently top the table, twice took the lead in front of their home crowd. Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring in the 15th minute, and Giacomo Raspadori added another just after the hour mark. However, Genoa managed to respond each time. A mishandled clearance led to an own goal by Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret in the 32nd minute, and Johan Vasquez levelled again in the 84th.

The draw was a setback for Napoli, who are chasing their fourth Serie A title and their first since 2023. Head coach Antonio Conte, expressing disappointment, reportedly said his team had controlled the game and deserved to win, but football can be unpredictable. He acknowledged that their margin for error is now gone, and they must win both remaining matches.

Earlier in Turin, Inter Milan battled both their opponents and adverse weather. Heavy rainfall forced a temporary pause in play and extended halftime by 30 minutes. Despite the disruption, Inter secured a vital win through goals from Nicola Zalewski and a second-half penalty by Kristjan Asllani. Coach Simone Inzaghi rotated his squad following their Champions League semi-final, but the players responded with determination.

With just two rounds left, Napoli remain on top with 78 points, while Inter trail on 77. If both finish level on points, a playoff on May 25 will decide the champion—a rare scenario in top European leagues.
