PCB Fines Naseem Shah Rs20 Million Over Contract Breach and Controversial Social Media Post

In a major development in Pakistan cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board has imposed a heavy fine of Rs20 million on fast bowler Naseem Shah for violating multiple clauses of his central contract. The decision comes after a controversial social media post that sparked widespread debate and raised concerns over player conduct and professionalism.

The issue began when Naseem Shah allegedly shared a critical comment regarding Maryam Nawaz, who attended the opening ceremony of the Pakistan Super League as chief guest. The post, which questioned her special treatment, quickly went viral before being deleted. Shortly after, a clarification appeared on his account claiming that it had been hacked and later recovered.

Following the incident, the Pakistan Cricket Board issued a show-cause notice to Naseem Shah, asking him to explain his actions within a specific time. After reviewing his response, a three-member disciplinary committee conducted a personal hearing to assess the situation in detail.

According to the official PCB statement, Naseem Shah submitted an unconditional apology. However, the committee concluded that he had still breached important clauses of his contract, including media and social media guidelines. As a result, the board decided to impose a fine of Rs20 million (2 crore), making it one of the most significant penalties in recent times.

The PCB also revealed that Naseem Shah had terminated his social media adviser following the incident. Furthermore, the adviser has been blacklisted and will not be allowed to work with any players under the PCB’s jurisdiction in the future. This step highlights the board’s strict stance on maintaining discipline and accountability.

The controversy has drawn strong reactions from fans and cricket experts, with many debating the limits of players’ freedom of expression on social media. At the same time, it underscores the importance of following professional guidelines, especially for high-profile athletes.

The Pakistan Cricket Board reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline, contractual responsibilities, and the integrity of the game. As cricket continues to evolve in the digital age, this case serves as a reminder that players must remain careful about their public statements.
