Mumbai Indians’ veteran opener Rohit Sharma endured a forgettable night as his team faced Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2025 clash at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Sharma was dismissed for a duck, marking his 18th in IPL history, the joint-highest alongside Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik.
The 37-year-old opener, Mumbai Indians’ leading run-scorer, lasted just three deliveries before edging a simple catch to Shivam Dube off Khaleel Ahmed’s bowling.
With this dismissal, he joined Maxwell and Karthik at the top of the unwanted list.
CSK, beginning their campaign on a strong note, chased down Mumbai’s 156-run target with four wickets in hand.
Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front with a quickfire 53 off 26 balls, while Rachin Ravindra anchored the innings with an unbeaten 65.
Earlier, MI’s batting lineup faltered against CSK’s disciplined bowling attack.
Left-arm wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad produced a career-best spell of 4/18, while pacer Khaleel Ahmed took 3/29, dismissing both Sharma and Ryan Rickelton early.
Despite resistance from Tilak Varma (41) and Suryakumar Yadav (32), Mumbai managed only 155/9.
CSK’s chase remained steady, and Ravindra sealed the win in the final overs, with MS Dhoni remaining unbeaten at the crease.
