Punjab Calls for Military Support Ahead of PSL 10 for Enhanced Security

Punjab government seeks Army deployment during the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10th, starting from April 11 in Rawalpindi.

Ahead of the 10th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Punjab’s Home Department has formally approached the Ministry of Interior, requesting the deployment of army personnel and Rangers to strengthen security arrangements in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan, Geo News reported on Monday.

Given the presence of international cricketers and officials, authorities have termed the event high-risk and have proposed additional security measures.

According to the department, security efforts will extend beyond the stadiums to team hotels and travel routes.

Officials have suggested that one wing of Rangers and two army companies be stationed in each of the three host cities to support local police forces.

The proposed deployment is aimed at ensuring a smooth and safe experience for players, officials, and fans alike.

The request has been made under Article 245 of the Constitution and the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, which allow the armed forces to assist civil authorities.

Similar appeals for military support had earlier come from the Cabinet Division, provincial administrations, and the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad.

The PSL is set to begin in Lahore on April 11, with the final match scheduled for May 18. A total of 34 matches will be played among six teams across four cities.

Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will host 13 games, including both Eliminators and the final. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is scheduled to stage 11 matches, including the first Qualifier on May 13.

Karachi’s National Bank Stadium and Multan Cricket Stadium will each hold five fixtures.

This season will also feature three double-headers, two of which will take place on Saturdays, while the third is planned for Labour Day, May 1.

Security forces are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the event runs without incident.
