Salah Selfie Celebration Creates Buzz

Mohamed Salah’s selfie celebration during Liverpool’s Premier League title-clinching win over Tottenham Hotspur has sparked excitement and debate across football circles.

After scoring Liverpool’s fourth goal in the 5-1 victory at Anfield, Salah borrowed a phone from a staff member behind the advertising boards and captured a selfie with the jubilant fans. The moment, widely shared on social media by both Salah and Liverpool, quickly went viral, gaining millions of views and likes.

Some observers questioned whether the celebration was a spontaneous act or a planned marketing move, noting that the phone used was a Google Pixel — one of Liverpool’s official sponsors. Speaking to BBC Sport, Salah explained he often takes selfies with teammates and wanted to do something special for this milestone moment.

While early reports suggested Salah had grabbed a fan’s phone, it was later clarified that the device belonged to a Liverpool staff member. Despite the speculation, many pointed out that it would have been difficult to predict Salah’s goal, even though it was his 33rd of the season.

Liverpool players have appeared in Google Pixel promotions throughout the season, and Salah’s post-match selfies were again shared by the brand on social media. However, there is currently no rule prohibiting such acts, even if they involve sponsors.

Referee Thomas Bramall chose not to book Salah for delaying play, though teammate Cody Gakpo received a yellow card earlier for removing his shirt during his goal celebration.

The Football Association has been contacted for clarification, but as it stands, the celebration appears within the rules. Meanwhile, Salah joins a list of players who have marked goals with selfies, following in the footsteps of Roma’s Francesco Totti, who famously celebrated in a similar style in 2015.
