A surprising moment involving Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjeev Goenka drew attention during their 37-run loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 54 of IPL 2025 at Dharamsala. Goenka was spotted clapping shortly after LSG batter Abdul Samad was dismissed, while seated beside PBKS co-owner Ness Wadia. The gesture, caught on camera, quickly went viral and led to speculation on social media, with many questioning whether Goenka had mistakenly celebrated his own team’s downfall.
On the field, Punjab Kings put up a dominant show with the bat after being asked to bat first. Prabhsimran Singh led the charge with a blistering 91 off just 48 balls, powering PBKS to a massive total of 236.

In response, LSG struggled under the pressure of the steep chase. The innings faltered early, with the top order collapsing to 73 for 5. Arshdeep Singh was the standout bowler, removing key batters Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran in a fiery spell. Azmatullah Omarzai further dented LSG’s hopes by dismissing Rishabh Pant and Abdul Samad.
Although LSG managed to reach 199 for 7, their efforts fell short. The defeat saw them slide to seventh in the points table, while Punjab climbed to second with 15 points from 11 matches.
Despite the on-field action, much of the online chatter focused on Goenka’s reaction, which some fans interpreted as a moment of confusion or frustration. Regardless, LSG will need to regroup quickly as the playoff race intensifies.
