Sri Lankan cricketer Ashen Bandara was arrested on Saturday after allegedly assaulting his neighbour in a dispute over a parked vehicle.

The incident took place in Kolamunna, Piliyandala, where Bandara resides.

According to Sri Lanka police, the confrontation, initially verbal, escalated when Bandara reportedly entered his neighbour’s house and assaulted the individual.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault and later granted bail the same evening. Bandara is scheduled to appear in court on March 12.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO, Ashley de Silva, acknowledged the incident but stated the board would need more details before taking any action.

De Silva noted that while Bandara does not have a central contract, he is under contract with Police SC in the Sri Lanka National Super League.

The SLC will review whether the incident tarnishes its reputation and may initiate an internal inquiry.

Bandara, 26, has played six ODIs and six T20Is for Sri Lanka, with his most recent appearance in October 2023 during the Asian Games.

He last played for the national team in January 2023.
