Shahid Afridi has claimed that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi admitted to having limited knowledge of cricket.
Afridi, while appreciating his efforts in improving stadium infrastructure, advised him to consult experienced professionals rather than relying on bureaucrats.
Naqvi, who also serves as Interior Minister and previously held the role of the caretaker chief minister in Punjab, assumed the PCB chairmanship last year.
His tenure has been turbulent, marked by Pakistan’s early exits from the 2024 T20 World Cup and the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy, where they were set to defend their title.
Despite significant investments in upgrading Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi stadiums, Pakistan’s performance has been under scrutiny.
Afridi expressed concerns about non-cricketers occupying key positions within the PCB, questioning their ability to make technical decisions.
He urged the board to strengthen domestic cricket to ensure long-term success at the international level.
Afridi further stated that Naqvi assured him that his suggestions were being considered.
However, he clarified that he was not seeking a role in the PCB but rather aimed to contribute towards shaping young cricketers’ mindsets at the grassroots level.
His remarks have reignited the debate on PCB’s management structure and the need for cricketing expertise in administrative roles.
