Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed has been elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Assembly. In a notable turn of events, no opposition member or other candidates submitted nomination papers for the Speaker position.

Finance Minister Javed Manwa, who presided over the Assembly proceedings, conducted the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected Speaker, Nazir Ahmed.

Expressing gratitude to the members of the assembly, Speaker Nazir Ahmed reaffirmed his commitment to uphold the law while running the affairs of the GB Assembly.

The previous Speaker of the GB Assembly, Syed Amjad Ali Zaidi, was removed from office through a successful no-confidence motion. During a secret voting process, Zaidi received only one vote out of 22, while the motion of no-confidence garnered 21 votes in favor.

The uncontested election of Nazir Ahmed as Speaker reflects the lack of opposition candidates vying for the position. This development suggests a consensus among the assembly members regarding Ahmed’s suitability for the role. It also indicates a potential shift in the political dynamics of the GB Assembly.

Nazir Ahmed’s election comes with the responsibility of maintaining order and overseeing the legislative proceedings in the GB Assembly. As the Speaker, he will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the assembly, facilitating debates, and upholding parliamentary rules.

The removal of Syed Amjad Ali Zaidi through a no-confidence motion signifies a significant change in leadership within the GB Assembly. The motion’s success suggests a loss of confidence in Zaidi’s ability to effectively fulfill his duties as Speaker. The voting results indicate a clear majority in favor of the motion, signaling a shift in political support within the assembly.

The change in leadership provides an opportunity for the GB Assembly to embark on a new chapter under the guidance of Speaker Nazir Ahmed. His commitment to upholding the law and running the assembly’s affairs in a transparent manner reflects his dedication to ensuring a fair and accountable legislative process.

As the newly elected Speaker assumes his role, he will face various challenges and responsibilities. It will be crucial for him to foster an environment of cooperation among the assembly members, encourage constructive dialogue, and promote the interests of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Nazir Ahmed’s uncontested election as the GB Assembly Speaker highlights a transition in leadership and sets the stage for a fresh chapter in the assembly’s functioning. With his commitment to upholding the law and running the assembly affairs efficiently, Speaker Nazir Ahmed holds the responsibility of steering the assembly toward productive debates and effective legislation.
