The Lahore High Court has directed that water recycling plants be installed at all service stations across Punjab as part of efforts to address rising environmental pollution. The order was issued by Justice Shahid Karim during proceedings on petitions concerning smog control in the province.
Justice Karim instructed deputy commissioners throughout Punjab to ensure the prompt enforcement of the directive. A report presented during the hearing highlighted the non-functional state of a water treatment plant in Kasur, which the court found deeply concerning.
Justice Karim noted that the plant’s closure had resulted in an increase in waterborne diseases among both children and adults. He stressed the urgent need to restore the facility to provide safe drinking water to residents.

The court also acknowledged an initiative by the Central Business District (CBD), which has constructed a rainwater storage tank for cleaning roads and watering greenery. Justice Karim praised the move as a positive step toward sustainable urban management.
In a related development, the Environment Protection Agency has launched operations to curb crop residue burning along the motorway. Offenders are being penalised, the court was informed.
The case was adjourned until next Friday, with the court seeking further updates from the concerned authorities.
