Kingdom Tower has reached another important milestone on its journey to becoming the world’s tallest building. The massive skyscraper under construction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It is also known as Jeddah Tower.
Once completed in 2028, Jeddah Tower is expected to rise over 1,000 meters into the sky. This will make it the first building in history to reach one kilometer in height.
Project Construction Speed
The project began in 2013 and was briefly halted in the middle. Construction resumed in January 2025 and is still ongoing. It is expected to be completed by 2028.
Construction teams are adding a new floor every three to four days. Structural steel is being installed in the tower’s core, while the first glass panels have already been added to the lower parts of the building.
A Project That Faced Major Delays
Jeddah Tower first began construction in 2013. However, work stopped in 2018 when the tower had reached only 63 floors.
Several issues caused the delay. These included financial challenges, political events, and the global COVID-19 pandemic. In late 2024, developer Jeddah Economic Company signed a new $2.1 billion agreement with Saudi Binladin Group to restart and complete the project.
Unique Design and Luxury Features
The tower was designed by architect Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, the team behind Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.
Its Y-shaped design helps reduce wind pressure and keeps the structure stable at extreme heights. The tower will be the centerpiece of the $20 billion Jeddah Economic City development.
Inside, visitors will find a luxury Four Seasons hotel, serviced apartments, office space, and the world’s highest observation balcony. The balcony will extend about 600 meters above the ground.
A New Global Landmark
Jeddah Tower is more than just a skyscraper. It is a symbol of ambition, innovation, and modern engineering. As construction continues, the tower moves closer to setting a new world record and becoming one of the most remarkable buildings ever created.
