Pakistan is set to export 125,000 tonnes of mangoes during the upcoming season, with shipments beginning on May 25, according to the Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Association (PFVA). The association expects the export drive to bring in around $100 million in foreign exchange.

Chairman of the PFVA, Waheed Ahmed, said the country’s total mango production is estimated at 1.44 million tonnes this year. He added that the export campaign will focus not only on traditional markets but also on securing entry into new destinations, particularly South Africa.

A delegation of quarantine experts from South Africa is expected to visit Pakistan to assess export standards, potentially opening the door to a new trading partnership.

Efforts will also continue to strengthen mango exports to China and Turkey, with renewed attention on expanding trade ties with other key markets such as Japan, Australia, the United States, and South Korea.

Meanwhile, the PFVA has urged the government to address rising freight charges imposed by shipping companies, which it says are placing unnecessary pressure on exporters.

With the season about to begin, the mango industry remains hopeful that improved access to global markets and government support will help it meet its ambitious export goals.
