The Punjab government has allocated Rs148 billion for the education sector under the development budget for the fiscal year 2025–26, signaling a robust commitment to improving the province’s educational infrastructure, access, and quality.

Presenting the budget in the Punjab Assembly, Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman outlined a wide-ranging set of initiatives designed to transform the educational landscape of the province. The education allocation covers new development projects, expansion of existing programs, and significant investments in infrastructure and scholarships.

One of the major highlights of the budget is the Rs15 billion earmarked for merit-based scholarships to reward academic excellence and support high-achieving students. Additionally, the Undergraduate Scholarship Programme will continue with an allocation of Rs5.9 billion, ensuring thousands of deserving university students can pursue higher education without financial barriers.

“Inclusion, accessibility, and excellence remain at the heart of our education policy,” said the finance minister during his budget speech. “This is an investment in our future, and in the youth who will shape the destiny of Punjab.”

To address the growing need for educational infrastructure, Rs40 billion has been allocated for the construction of new classrooms across government schools. This move aims to reduce overcrowding and provide a more conducive learning environment, particularly in rural and under-resourced areas.

Furthermore, Rs35 billion has been allocated to the Education Delivery Programme, which focuses on enhancing learning outcomes, improving teacher training, and streamlining the delivery of education services.

The 2025–26 education budget is seen as a major step toward achieving sustainable educational development, reducing inequality, and equipping the next generation with the tools to thrive in a knowledge-based economy.
