Preparations for the new Ghilaf-e-Kaaba are currently in progress at the Kiswa factory in Makkah, where skilled artisans are crafting the sacred covering using high-quality materials imported from Italy and Germany.

The process, which spans approximately ten months, involves 159 specialists working with precision to complete the intricate design. The new Kiswah is made using around 850 kilograms of raw silk, dyed black within the facility, and embroidered with 120 kilograms of gold wire and 100 kilograms of silver wire. It consists of four large panels and a curtain for the Kaaba’s door.

Traditionally replaced each year as a symbol of respect for the holy site, the Kiswah used to be changed on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. However, since 2022, the ceremony now takes place on the first day of Muharram. The previous Kiswah is distributed to charitable organizations across the world.
