Known fondly as “Baba” within the family, Colonel Naushad had played a pivotal role in guiding and supporting her interest in cricket.
Maryam has already featured in one One Day International and six T20 matches for Scotland.
However, it was a visit to Dubai during her childhood that marked a turning point. At the time, her grandfather was managing the Pakistan team in a series against Sri Lanka.
Watching the match live for the first time sparked an interest in the game that would shape her future.
Upon returning home, her brother joined a local club, and she followed in his footsteps soon after.
She also recalled facing a tough phase during her Under-19 cricket days, where early failures had discouraged her.
