Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Dr. Afnan Ullah Khan has faced criticism for his derogatory remarks against Pakistani actor Mahira Khan and satirist Anwar Maqsood after Mahira expressed support for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. During an event at the Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi, Mahira revealed her political preference, which led Dr. Afnan to tweet insults against her and Maqsood. Several social media users, including actors Farhan Saeed and Adnan Siddiqui, called out the senator for his misogynistic comments.

Farhan expressed his anger at the mentality that doesn’t allow Pakistan to grow and called out the senator for using the language of ignorant people. Adnan Siddiqui stated that the disrespect shown to Anwar Maqsood and Mahira Khan, both respected globally, was a reflection of the senator’s character, not the icons he insulted. Twitter users criticized the senator for attacking two of Pakistan’s top stars and intellectuals and called for PML-N to respond to his remarks in a filthy manner. Mahira Khan is a well-known Pakistani actress who has also worked in Bollywood films. Anwar Maqsood is a renowned satirist, humorist, and scriptwriter in Pakistan.
