Pakistan has introduced artificial intelligence-powered passport printing machines capable of producing up to 300 passports per hour.
The announcement was made by Director General of Passports Mustafa Jamal Kazi during a recent briefing on the country’s digital reforms.
He said six advanced machines, acquired earlier this year in March, have now been fully integrated with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) system.
The new system is expected to reduce processing times and improve overall efficiency in passport issuance.

As part of these changes, a new feature has also been added to Pakistani passports — the inclusion of the mother’s name. Officials say this update aligns with global documentation practices and will help in cases where paternal details are missing or unclear.
Authorities have also begun strict action against Pakistani nationals deported from abroad due to illegal activities. This includes the cancellation of passports and the initiation of criminal proceedings.
The move comes after several Middle Eastern countries raised concerns about undocumented migration and public begging by Pakistani citizens.
