The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has officially announced that free Wi-Fi services will soon be available across Islamabad, marking a major step toward turning the federal capital into a digitally connected “Free Wi-Fi City.” The plan begins with 30 key locations in the first phase, offering free internet access to commuters and citizens in public spaces.
According to CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the initiative will start at metro and feeder bus stations, public parks, and other major public areas, ensuring that students, professionals, and families alike can benefit from reliable internet connectivity. The chairman stressed that this move is designed to make the capital more accessible and inclusive in the digital age.

The project will be launched in collaboration with the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC). While the CDA’s technical team will assist with the setup, the NTC will take full responsibility for operating and maintaining the Wi-Fi system. This partnership aims to ensure that the service remains consistent and trustworthy.
To keep the initiative financially sustainable, CDA has also directed the creation of a revenue model. Any funds generated through the system will be used for repairs, upgrades, and further expansion, guaranteeing uninterrupted service for the public.
