In a recent development in Islamabad, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa imposed a fine on a lawyer for presenting incomplete documents in a crucial income tax-related case. The CJP, in a move to uphold the court’s standards and streamline the judicial process, fined the lawyer Rs 2,000 for failing to provide necessary documentation. Additionally, the income tax department’s representatives were also reprimanded for their absence in the court, hampering the case’s progress.

This incident sheds light on the importance of adhering to proper documentation and the necessity of the income tax department’s involvement in such cases. Chief Justice Isa emphasized that cases related to income tax cannot proceed effectively without the presence of a representative from the income tax department.

Despite the court’s efforts to address income tax-related cases, issues persist due to the lack of cooperation from the concerned department. Chief Justice Isa, frustrated with the reluctance of the income tax department to assist the Supreme Court in these matters, took action by imposing a fine on the unprepared lawyer. To further address this issue, the top judge also issued a notice to the In-Land Revenue Department of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

It is worth noting that this is not an isolated incident. Just last week, Chief Justice Isa fined another lawyer Rs5,000 for wasting the Supreme Court’s valuable time in a property case. These actions by the CJP signal a commitment to maintaining the integrity of the judicial process and ensuring that cases are handled efficiently and effectively.

In a separate development, Chief Justice Isa held a meeting with bar councils where he pledged to create a comprehensive policy to address the backlog of pending cases and the formation of benches. This move demonstrates his dedication to improving the efficiency of the judicial system in Pakistan.
