Rawalpindi Shop Damaged in Alleged Indian Drone Strike Amid PSL Tensions

In a concerning development amidst the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, an alleged Indian drone struck a shop in the vicinity of the Food Street. This incident marks the latest in a series of reported drone incursions, escalating tensions between the two neighboring countries.

According to initial reports, the drone impacted a shop located in the bustling Food Street area, which is situated close to the venue hosting the popular cricket league. The impact resulted in damage to the shop’s windows, and tragically, one civilian sustained injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that the drone crashed after colliding with a tree before hitting the shop.

Law enforcement agencies swiftly responded to the scene, with a significant contingent of police officers cordoning off the area. The wreckage of the alleged drone has been secured, and an official investigation has been launched to ascertain the precise nature of the device, its origin, and its intended target.

This incident in Rawalpindi is part of a larger pattern of alleged Indian drone activity reported across various regions of Pakistan. Earlier in the day, Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif, stated that at least twelve Indian drones were reportedly shot down in multiple cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Karachi, Chakwal, Attock, Rawalpindi, Chhor, and Mianwali. The DG ISPR also indicated that drones were disabled in Rawalpindi and Attock, suggesting that not all incursions resulted in complete destruction.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, separate drone-related incidents occurring late at night reportedly resulted in injuries to several Pakistan Army personnel in Lahore and the martyrdom of one civilian with another injured in Sindh province. While providing details on these earlier incidents, the DG ISPR claimed that “heavy damage was caused to the enemy on the Line of Control,” although specific details regarding these claims were not immediately available.

The timing of the Rawalpindi incident, coinciding with the high-profile PSL matches, raises concerns about potential motives and the security implications for the ongoing sporting event and the surrounding civilian areas. The incident is likely to further strain the already tense relationship between India and Pakistan, with potential for diplomatic repercussions and heightened security measures in the border regions and major cities. Authorities are expected to release further details as the investigation into the drone strike progresses.
